I think the Colonel should stop on his way home and buy the winning lottery ticket. He is the luckiest AD ever. Apparently win/loss records of Hockey and football along with contract negotiating skills mean nothing to air force.Which program is in worse shape at RPI football or hockey. Good lord!

Never mind that he's highly respected in the NCAA Hockey community, has experience as a deputy AD at an armed forces academy, and oversaw massive improvements to RPI Athletics facilities.

As far as I am concerned he got taken to the proverbial woodshed in seths contract negotiations . How many football coaches have come and gone since King retired? Does anyone really think football will ever come close to needing the seating capacity of the stadium they paid a fortune to build? The new AD hands will be financially tied everywhere he looks. He is now getting the hell out of dodge for a primo job for a man with his background. ...I would call that Lucky.

There is a post in the union thread by dutchman regarding how low RPI hockey has sunk. I would love to refute it but to be honest it close to spot on..Sad state of affairs.

I don't mean to "kit"nap the conversation here - that would be "cat"egorically wrong (somebody stop me) but sadly our cat wasn't old - she was only 9. Jordan Alford named her and her sister with hockey-related names for us when we got them as kittens. It was a shock to lose her since she was only ill for a couple of weeks. But I certainly do sympathize with your losses too - our cats are family as I'm sure yours are.

Jen and I have been cat rescuers for 40 years. We have lost them from age 8 weeks up through 20+. Each one is special in their own way and each and every time, it just hurts so bad. it is the only time they do hurt you, when they leave you. We are trying to nurse 3 very ill guys now and pretty sure we will not have them for much longer. But we will do whatever it takes to make sure they do not suffer and that they pass with dignity and in the arms of the people who love them. A big problem is that cats are so stoic. When dogs suffer an illness, they let you know. Cats just never allow you to know when they are sick until it is very far advanced. They often seem to be fine and then within days or sometimes hours, they are gone or beyond hope. They are indeed our family(even more so after our loss of last year).

According to the Rensselaer magazine which I received yesterday, Dick Schantz, who played a few games in 1964-5, passed away on 9/6/14. (I apologize if there were two Richard Schantz's in the Class of '65.)

Dr. Lee A. McElroy, Jr. Appointed Interim Director of Athletics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Troy, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute today named Dr. Lee A. McElroy, Jr. as interim director of athletics. The appointment is effective March 1, 2015. In this capacity, Dr. McElroy will assume responsibility for overseeing the Institute’s 12 men’s and 11 women’s NCAA intercollegiate teams (21 Division III, 2 Division I), involving more than 550 student-athletes, as well as intramurals.

“Dr. McElroy has extensive professional experience in higher education, athletic administration, academic advising, counseling, personnel selection, program development, classroom instruction, marketing, recruiting coordination, strategic planning, and university advancement,” said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson. “Working closely with student life leaders, as well as administrators and faculty, Dr. McElroy will further our focus on supporting student-athletes on and off the field with programmatic and leadership opportunities that embody the Clustered Learning, Advocacy, and Support for Students (CLASS) approach to the Rensselaer student experience.”

“It is a very exciting time for intercollegiate and intramural athletics, and I am honored to be appointed to this role by Dr. Jackson.” McElroy said. “RPI athletics has superb coaches and support staff and a phenomenal group of student-athletes who represent the Institute proudly.”

For the past 14 years, Dr. McElroy served as Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University of Albany. During this time he was appointed to the NCAA Management Council and elected president of the National Association of College Athletic Directors (NACDA); won three America East Commissioner's Cups in 2007, 2013 and 2014; earned 32 NCAA post-season berths; won 63 America East conference titles; was named to the NACDA Hall of Fame in 2012; served as President of the American East Board of Directors 2007 and 2011; and served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the United States Sports Academy.

Through his more than three decades of athletic administration experience, Dr. McElroy also served as athletic director at several other prominent universities, including American University and California State University. In addition, he served as associate director of athletics at the University of Houston.

Dr. McElroy received an educational doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Houston, a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’s of science degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a three-year letterman on the UCLA football team.

Dr. McElroy succeeds Mr. Jim Knowlton, who has served as Rensselaer athletic director since 2008.

Rensselaer is commencing a national search for a director of athletics.

I am obviously pretty down on the program I have followed for 40 plus years. I just wish the types of posts were easier to refute.

When you look at what happened on 31 October, they actually are pretty easy to refute.

Ironically they have to be kicking themselves as, according to the CHN Pairwise Customize tool, had Union won both games vs. Rensselaer, they would now stand 17th and on the cusp of an At Large position. Our program may be down but those two games may have doomed their chances at an NCAA bid.

Not necessarily. We lost three to Colgate, a team that didn't win a league game until February, in 2011, and look what happened there.

Thanks for providing evidence to my point. We barely qualified for the tournament and then we got spanked - scored the same amount of tournament goals as all the non-qualifiers. If nothing else we have damaged their possible seeding.
