Nice win tonight. Didn't get to see the whole thing but what I saw they looked like a diff team.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

The box score indicates that Andrew Franks opened the scoring for RPI with a 52-yard field goal - after which, the placekicking duties were handled by Christian Kapp.

Nothing in the recap on the RPIathletics website indicating that anything happened to Franks. Was he injured?

I wondered the same thing-nothing was said during the game while I was watching. BTW, he makes those 52 yard kicks look routine. Extremely powerful and accurate leg.

We will take the win but the problem remains that they do not generate enough good scoring chances. Breakouts are uneven and when they do gain the zone they seldom seem to get off a good shot on net. The big difference tonight from yesterday was that the Dartmouth forecheck was not as smothering as Harvard's.

I missed most of the game seeing only the important last 10 minutes. Great to win one, but Jen tells me we just did not look sharp for the first 50 minutes. Seems like we just take that extra second to decide what we are going to do and that gives the opponent time to react. She said the MnM line was flying all night and set up some chances. Again we take more penalties than the opponent-this is becoming a habit-and we lose the special teams scoring 1-0 tonight and 2-0 yesterday. I know coach SA always wants his seniors to be the leaders and he normally sits freshman out but this team is a freshmen scoring team and they seem to be the best lines on the ice each game.

I saw the second half of Friday's women's game and the score reamined 3-2 in favor of SCSU. I then saw all of yesterday's mens game, today's women's game (a shutout loss) and theen over two periods of today's mens game before an RPI goal. Almost 10 periods before an RPI goal.

It's one thing to notice areas that need improvement and to discuss them in a rational manner

Its the lack of effort and organization that is concerning.

Yes. That is one area that definitely needs substantial improvement. You cannot be wandering around on the ice indecisively gazing about wondering what to do while someone else zips past. totally agree on that score. There is a big difference between having the other team beat us and having us not even appear to try.

at the same time, whenever any athlete moves from one level of competition to another, there is inevitably a period of adjustment. There are times when you can coast at a lower level of play and perhaps unconsciously a player can develop some bad habits that need to be weeded out to be successful at the next level. everyone is bigger, stronger, smarter, and faster at the next level when at the prior level only the very best were. just like physical exercise is needed to get stronger and develop skills, mental exercise is also needed to develop alertness and stamina when the body gets tired.

In basketball, the best coaches will force players to shoot free throws when they are physically fatigued, because it takes greater mental strength to force yourself to perform the basic fundamentals when your body is tired. concentration and focus to give that extra push to work through the fatigue and perform the motion properly anyway.

I'm not as concerned as most of the others here seem to be, while it is frustrating, we have talent and skill, now we need to harness the mental discipline it takes to use it every shift of every period of every game. my surmise is that it will develop over time.

that's where I think we need a deeper support staff, so that the coaches are on top of the players in practice as soon as they notice them getting the slightest bit sloppy. that is mental weariness manifesting itself and that's where the coaching really needs to focus. IMHO.

I'd have to assume they gave the other kid a chance.

Interesting that the current first place team in the ECAC by point total, is listed about 41st in the nation in PWR. Just shows how little any of these rating systems are wroth early in the season. BTW, I do not expect it to stay this way, but Cornell is ranked 51st in PWR:eek: The highest any ECAC team is ranked in any of these listings is SLU at 14th

Jen was right about being sharp, but they were hustling and into the game. They gave a good effort for 60 minutes. The MNM line was good, but putting Liljegren and Bubela together could provide the offense that we are looking for.
Still passing up good shots for the perfect pass, and shooting wide. We need some marksmen on the front end.

Franks would look good in Giants blue next year.

I can't recall his name, but does anyone know if the RPI QB who signed a contract a year ago but was cut was at a camp again this season?

I'm not surprised at all. To do well in the PWR, you have to do well in out-of-conference games. Last I checked, 1-5-0 isn't "doing well". SLU, on the other hand is doing very well out of conference (one of the reasons I picked them to finish third in the ECAC), and their PWR shows it. Obviously it's going to fluctuate a bit, but I don't foresee us advancing very high in PWR, even if we go 21-1-0 in ECAC play.
