Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

I mostly agree, but complaining about it here all the time changes nothing and drives posters away from the board. So much negativity.

Well then go to the game. I attended last night and was taken back by the amount of frustration around me from fans. I think you can substitute negativity for frustration. I will say that Harvard looked real good. Team speed was incredible. They were tenacious all night and used it to create offense.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Is Harvard that good?

Yes. They have 11 NFL draft picks, and rank as one of the biggest teams in College Hockey. They have spent all summer on campus lifting weights and attending hockey camps. They are one of the oldest teams in terms of age that Harvard has had in a long time. Their av age is 21y/2m vs Union which is 21y/3m. They have a new Associate Head Coach who is highly respected and you can already see the effect. The presence of the University President at the home opening ceremony signals that the team may be getting the type of eco-system support and visibility that it has missed. They got new facilities. The only question was their goal-tending and their conditioning this early in the season. I think they answered the conditioning question.

Its not going to get any easier for you tonight ......

Does anyone know why Chris Bradley didn't play?

I'm curious too; did not like the freshman pairing of Bell and Wilson. Bell looked especially lost in period 1. Harvard actually has 8 NHL draft picks, but still.... Aside from their goaltending, I think they are that good and obviously were hungrier than RPI.

You're right, there is no excuse.
We changed the power play system, now we pass the puck around the perimeter, but nobody takes a shot. The offense five on five looks only for the perfect play and passes up quality scoring opportunities. We can't score if we don't shoot. And shooting with a clear shot at the goalie can create some very good scoring chances from rebounds, but when do we ever get a rebound? We need to start generating shots on goal.
As for the defense last night, I just can't believe that our two biggest defensemen couldn't clear the front of the net. They scored most if not all of their goals from two feet and closer.
Very poor effort.

Exactly-just check and see which defensive pairing was on the ice for each goal against. I love Luke, he has proven to be one of the steadiest and best defensive defensemen we have had in a long time, but he cannot be expected to do it all and still rush the puck up ice. This pairing reminds me a lot of Dolan and LeBeouf and although individually they possessed talent, as a pair they were a liability.

Bokenfohr didn't play well. How could Parker Reno be best d man in state as a senior and not play for us

Gimme some Phil Hampton then. Offense or defense, let's find some motivated players that WANT to play, even if they have to come off the catwalk....

NFL draft picks? That explains something.

BTW "Its [sic] not going to get any easier for you tonight." ;)

A lot of what you say makes sense but are you watching the games? Its the lack of effort and organization that is concerning. I can accept losses. I remember leaving the Fieldhouse plenty of times after a loss and thinking, wow what an effort. They really took it to them and left it all on the ice. It hasn't been that way for years! Absolutely no excuse for the effort last night.

Here here!

Agreed. 3 of 4 home games with what can only be described as a team that doesn’t give a sheet. Seems to me every season holds more and more of these showings.

This could be cause for a problem. Only 2 extra forwards on the roster with 1 in Appert’s dog-house from the get-go. Not saying players are relaxing knowing chances of being a healthy scratch are slim but it certainly could handcuff a coaching staff.

What evidence do YOU have that a mid season coaching change would work?

without a string of major recruiting violations or some type of scandal (things we don't appear to have in this program, thankfully) a midseason change would not appear to be in the cards. It's still early November. A long way to go in this season. Only clear thing at this point is with UNH and Michigan (both on the road) and BU as well as Q-Pac and Yale this team will be seriously tested on a regular basis. So far, with some of these "tests" they have excelled; others have been embarrassing. What surprised me about last night was no sign at all this team had just swept Union six days earlier. I expected at least some momentum to carry over and reshape the early season look of this team. Here's hoping the effort is there tonight.

I'm just here for the keyboard coaches and administration comments.

For the football fans-finally a bit of good news as we beat Springfield 37-13 and actually led 30-0 at one point. Overall we are 5-4 and in the LL 3-3. One game remaining for the Dutchman's Shoes at home next week. I am not sure but if we can win that game and end with an overall 6-4 record, we could be considered for an ECAC bowl game. Congrats to the RPI football team for a nice turnaround after a series of losses. Now if we can handle Dartmouth in Hockey tonight this could be a very nice Saturday indeed.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Defense last night wasn't good. Not aggressive at all. When shots were taken defense and forwards all turned and watched Kasdorf. You just can't turn your back on offensive players.
Harvard created turnovers with aggressive play in the neutral zone. The engineers didn't. There was never a sense of urgency even down 3 goals.

I am trying to decide if I should go to the game tonight.Anyone know what RPI club is going to show up?

I would have them wear the Black uniforms one more time to see if that helps.

The box score indicates that Andrew Franks opened the scoring for RPI with a 52-yard field goal - after which, the placekicking duties were handled by Christian Kapp.

Nothing in the recap on the RPIathletics website indicating that anything happened to Franks. Was he injured?
