Very depleted roster, still. Disappointing night for Kasdorf. He needs to be himself down the streetch or this season is toast.
The three missing forwards all have injuries that could be very difficult to come back from quickly. It realistically could be next season before we see any of those three at 100%. Let's hope that is not the case and they are all back near full strength by the Q'Pac-Princeton trip in 10 days. tough to play with 11 forwards, especially when you are missing three of your top 6.
LGR!

Not sure I'd call those 3 all top 6 but you're right we sure could use 1 or 2 of them back.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Haven't seen much chatter on the game last night... so I'll chime in. Take out a very bad 5 minutes of D coverage (and a softie on goal #4) and that was actually a respectable game I thought. I've said it a couple times and I'll say it again... we lack finishers. Every time Harvard got an odd man rush you could sense that they expect to do damage. Whenever we get one it seems like we are hoping to get a good shot off. Expecting to and hoping to are very different things.

On the good side... Schroeder and Melanson both looked healthy to me. Big pluses there. I also really like Fulton's game. Teamwide... lots of hustle. Team did not quit.

On the bad side... Weak game for Kasdorf, first time back - he'll get better. We are still trying too hard to win every single second of the game instead of picking our spots and as a result I think we are tiring ourselves out. Know when to go hard and when to conserve. Poor coverage on D early in the second. Hate to give up a goal to a guy uncovered in the slot and then see that the two kids on D have a C and an A on their sweaters. I think our communication just breaks down sometimes. On Harvard's 6th goal, Neal was in the face-off circle of the O-zone fighting like hell for a puck and both of his wings were beneath him, toward the net. 3rd man high boys and the eventual 2 on 1 doesn't happen.

On the absurd side... RPI fans down 6-2 yelling Sucks.. sucks when the announcer announces that goal scorer and assists. If you are losing 6-2 and they suck, what does that say about you? I would expect 12 year olds to do that... maybe. I know it's a canned cheer - and it can be funny - once in a while. Need to reel it in when you are getting beaten on the road. JMO...

Not that I expect anybody's conduct to change as the result of us expressing our opinions, but I heartily agree that when our team is getting waxed, expressing contempt for the other team is the exact opposite of expressing support for our team.

RPI students aren't exactly beacons of logical thinking.

RPI students aren't exactly beacons of logical thinking.

I have been to Harvard for RPI hockey games on two occasions and the large majority of RPI fans in the stands were alumni and/or older RPI fans like myself.
Don't put this on the students.
That said, I am in the camp that believes that certain cheers are getting old. And when your team is getting blown out, keep your mouth shut. JMO

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

I was at the game, and was at times impressed with RPI's play. Your guys certainly forced a lot of turnovers in Harvard's end, got off many shots, and at one point the Crimson were having a heck of a time just getting out across their own blue line.

The "sucks" thing, yes, is not impressive, though we get that ad nauseum from fans of many teams. I am sure there are smart people at schools like RPI, and I would think they could easily come up with a more clever cheer strategy.

I would think that during the Holiday break, as now, there would be more students who live in the Boston area there.

"Sucks" has apparently become a mantra. It seems dumb to me that every penalty is described as "for sucking".

I've been attending games for better than 30 years and for the most part, RPI fans are among the most loyal and least creative in college hockey. Fans of Cornell, RIT, Maine, Wisconsin, etc., are much more creative and organized than our groups. Stringing together a couple of winning seasons with trips to Placid could change that.

Creativity in sports is overrated. The message gets across, plain and simple. We save our creativity for the real world, where it REALLY matters.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Unfortunately I had to miss the Harvard game due to attending the wake of a good friend. But it did not surprise me when I learned of the outcome. Once again we seemed to have hit our quota of goals. As I did not see the game I can only comment on what was written on this board. It is not encouraging that we played well at times or that we dominated the opening period. It only takes a few minutes of lapses to lose games and that is what this team does time after time. Going out full-bore is necessary at all times, not just picking spots (there's that conditioning issue again). The game of hockey is lightning fast and if you are standing still instead of moving you will become a pylon more often that not. That is what leads to penalties - lack of hustle - being flatfooted. Sorry, but I find no solace in hearing 'we were competitive' or 'played well' or 'but for a few breaks' - they are just platitudes. The objective of hockey is to have scored the most goals at the end of the game (see Herm Edwards). I find it incredulous that anyone can take anything positive from their play in the last month or so. But still I do hope for a year end winning streak, I also hope to win Powerball.

Didn't catch this game due to some last minute obligations, but it sounds similar to most of the year - good effort, poor execution and finishing. I'm encouraged compared to previous years where the effort and execution was lacking. Keeping the faith here...!

As for the idiotic chants while losing - I would submit they're dumb even when winning, not creative, and at least at the Brown game, was only chanted by the 5 students there, not the old fart alumnae, like myself.

I didn't realize that you are female. :)

As for the chants, there are idiots anywhere you attend a sporting event. After 30 years at Madison Square Garden you can still hear the Potvin chant, even though 90% of current attendees probably never saw him play. There are people who never grow up no matter where you go - take for instance the universally heard sore winners' chant of "Nananana Hey hey hey goodbye" to a losing team. Sadly character and class are a rare commodity these days.

Re: RPI Hockey 2014-2015: Dedicated to Rich Curadi

Apparently I lack creativity, character, and class, and I'm idiotic. Sweet.
