Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Warren's now for upperclassmen. Freshmen have Bray, Cary, Crockett, Hall, Nason, Barton, BARH, and Quad.

FF, Hall Hall is directly across from Crockett with Commons dining hall in between. It's the mirror image, and it's the first dorm on the right if you're coming up the stairs by the gazebo to Freshman Hill

Fishy may remember it if we say Hall Squared. :p And those on the third floor were a derivative of Hall Cubed. :D (oh wait, we're past thread 3)

Aren't BARH and Quad still mixed upperclass and frosh? Granted, they changed a lot of the rules just after I left, like eliminating squats, forcing sophs to stay in the dorms...

I figured that things have changed, probably several times, since I was there. I am, however, surprised that the Quad is now used by freshmen.

I knew that they had to be an explanation.

As you may know, the freshman dorms at RPI: Bray, Cary, Crockett, Hall, Nason, and Warren (in alphabetical order) were originally called, A, B, C, D, E, and F. IIRC, the names were added during the 63-64 academic year.

Ralph-you will know this of course-but others may not-What was it that made Warren Hall special and different from the other freshmen residences back in the 60's?

I do know the answer, but I wonder if it could have changed since then. (I am sure that someone will answer it.) I probably haven't been in any of those dorms since I was a freshman, but my recollection is that all of the walls were cinderblocks, and probably wouldn't have changed over the years.

Nowadays Warren Hall isn't a freshmen dorm, but its layout difference is that it had a divider in each room separating the two sides making the double into two faux-singles. Don't know how recent that is.

To the best of my knowledge it, like Davison, has been that way at least since my freshman year (2001).

I'm going to guess the presence of two X chromosomes, although by the late '70s I know Nason and BARH both had women as well.

The divider was indeed one of the two major differences. Made for a bit of privacy for each of the frosh. The other major difference-each room had its own bathroom. I do not recall that the others did back then.

Couldn't say. That's the one dorm building I've actually never been in at RPI.

It is, I lived there sophomore year. My biggest gripe with the room was the divider; if you get along with your roommate it kills a lot of options for arranging the room.

BARH had women ever since it opened. One wing was the first women's dorm on campus. During my freshmen year the few women that we had who didn't live at home lived at Sage.
