it does, and is ironic that we talk about this in a week when we gave up a goal up 5 on 3. :) I would like to think that RPI still has better results with more players on the ice than fewer, but ... :eek:

It seems to me that RPI has been one of the top three ECAC schools in recruiting almost every year since SA started. SA does seem to recruit as if he were coaching a WCHA school rather than an ECAC school. Considering the ECAC's success overall versus the Big 3 conferences in most years, that should be fine, but for whatever reason, we remain subpar in the ECAC.

I believe we have the personnel and talent to be a good team.
Unfortunately, to date, they have not shown what it takes on the ice to be a good team. You can't give away 3 goal leads. You can't give up short handed goals and expect to be considered a good team.
They have a lot to prove. Again, I believe they can do it, but I hope they are not waiting for the last four weeks of the season like they did last year.
Makes it tough for the fans to take.

The only rebuilding I SEE has to do with the resources available to the student-athletes (Houston Field House) and for the staff as far as salaries, and support (marketing, hockey ops director).

Resources appear to have increased in recent years. Although the HFH hasn't been replaced, it has been significantly upgraded recently. I don't know how things however compare to the situations at other schools.

There are some things that can't be solved, and I don't feel should be solved, as for example the selection of majors and courses offered. Considering that problem and others like "the ratio" and the dump that Troy remains, we have done a great job in attracting hockey players.

Since the players probably come in with girlfriends (and amazingly hot ones at that), there's no worrying about R.I.B.S.

You obviously haven't spent an extended period of time in Troy lately! Dump is hardly the adjective I would use to describe Troy!!

Not a usual poster on the men's thread (have a D), but aren't you hurting future recruiting by talking SO negatively about the area and the ratio? No picnic recruiting girls either!!

Having grown up around Troy, its the sad truth. Further, I would be shocked if someone said that the mens hockey team experienced a ratio issue back in the '82-'85 time frame. From what Ive seen as well, I'm kinda shocked at the number and attractiveness of some of the ladies (my son is a sophomore and my youngest who is a sophomore in high school recently commented at the end of one of the games the other day "Who woulda knew hot girls liked engineering !"). :):cool:

I disagree. Expectations, fair or not, haven't been met. This program needs to return to prominence, and without a turnaround, it's pretty hard to see the path from here...

Rome was not built in a day. SA is not going anywhere. He has the support of Shirley and does not recruit any crapbirds. He beat Clarkson in the playoffs for the first time in the history of the program, got an NCAA bid because he does not schedule a bunch of cupcakes etc, etc. etc. This season is going to be a process because key guys are not upperclassmen. We are close.

LOL, That's simply not true. I know 2 of the 3 previous coaches beat Clarkson, at least 1 at the ECAC Final 4 no less. How many times have we participated in that tournament lately?

I hope so. I don't want a change, but "wait until next year" has run out of steam, especially since the program is no longer considered a contender, year-in, year-out, and has been outdistanced by Union, of all things.

I learned many things at RPI - one of the biggest takeaways applies here --> "Whatever it Takes"

IMHO, both the area and the ratio are improving, but they are still factors. There are other factors which can negate that disadvantage.

I suspect that it is more difficult to recruit players for the women's team than the men's, although there the ratio may help. There certainly are some women who are interested in a technological education (even at least two who post here), but although things have changed somewhat over the years, there are still more women than men for whom that is a negative. We have had the discussed possible reasons before, but there are more women hockey players at RPI who are not management majors than there are men hockey players.

RPI is certainly not the only hockey college in an area which isn't great, and I regard its location as a plus. It is not nearly as out of the way as many of our competitors in the ECAC and other leagues. Although there are crappy areas in Troy, IMHO the area around the campus in most directions is not bad.

I see the potential, as we all do...but its time to give the fans something to root for.

Sounds like you would be a fan for them to get beer at the HFH this way we at least have something to look forward to every game.
