RPI Engineers '23-'24

RPI posted Instagram stories of 4 future players signing NLOIs including two teammates, Molly Hamilton and Gracyn Mackay, whom I did not know about before. I am sure that their committal dates are actually earlier than 11/13/23. I put in 2014 as their arrival dates although they could have signed NLOIs and still be for 2025.

# Known to have signed National Letter of Intent
The years the recruits are listed as arriving at RPI are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.
I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they often tweet them with committals.

This coming weekend is a huge test for the Engineers. Road games against middle of the pack ECAC teams, Princeton and QU. They will be underdogs in both games, but at times this year they have shown the potential to be competitive at this level....and at other times, not so much. They have had a couple weeks to regroup. I don't know how they will fare...but they will be aggressive and entertaining...count on it.

Princeton and QU are both top 15 teams in the pairwise and could make the NCAA tournament. I don't know that I'd consider them middle of the pack even though that is where they are in the league standings. Will be a good opportunity for them to get a quality win (or two fingers crossed) though!

Based on results from this weekend it is increasingly likely that RPI will finish in last place in the ECAC this year. Let that sink in. Yes, this team is greatly improved from last year....but so is Brown, Union...etc. This is so discouraging for fans...but more so for the players, I am sure. Vines was right to shake up the lineup today. This season not going well...put more frosh and sophs in the game to build for next year.

I feel badly for the talented players like Kaiser, Rampado, Wagner, who have worked so hard for RPI. Maybe???, fingers crossed, they can salvage some pride in last part of season and playoffs

Absolutely agree. The shake up in lines today and the insertion into the line up of a couple of players who have seen little ice time seemed to make a difference. Sure they lost but after the first period they played far better and actually outshot QU . Oddly over the two weekend games we lost a plethora of face offs which has not happened all season. With the season going as it has, go with as many players and lines as possible and see what clicks if anything.

Still a divide between top 7 and bottom 5 n the ECAC, but Union and Brown show some signs of fight. That leaves RPI, Harvard and Dartmouth as contenders for last place? Sad.

Hope we can turn things around. It would certainly be disappointing to finish 10th or lower with the talent improvement we have seen. Vines needs to figure out how to get them going. We haven't finished in the top 8 since 2019 when Selander carried the team

As an eternal optimist about this team I have trouble responding to being swept by Union. Not good. I like a lot about this year's team, but we have failed to come up with the wins. At times this weekend they just looked so much weaker than earlier in the season.

At times like this, with a team that is struggling, I always think about the players. So many great players on this team and I just hope they continue to fight hard and take some pride from the last half of the season.

Where have the Engineers failed this year...pick one:
1) Rampado has been good but hasn't saved their bacon as often as other seasons
2) The very soft pre-season schedule gave them a false sense of progress
3) They have improved, but every other team in the ECAC has improved more
4) They just dont have the grit and determination to finish. Other teams seem to want it more
5) lack of talent
6) coaches are not developing the talent

I think #2 is the biggest one for me. I was always cautious against getting overly optimistic about the hot start when it was against terrible teams. I did think they'd be better in ECAC play though despite that. They've played more than half their ECAC schedule and still only have 4 points :-(

Agree with you and hope they can finish the year strong. Nowhere to go but up

Agree - i would focus a bit on your #4 and #6. There are several ladies out there who seem to be going at 100% and fighting for every puck possession. There are a few others though who started the season aggressively, but as the games have gone by are showing a little less. I think that may be a function of the fact that as the losses pile up, mentally it is almost certain to ask yourself, why bother?
I think #6 is also an important factor. Seniors, Grad students and even juniors have been given able opportunity to show what they can do. I would think by this point in the season, with virtually no chance of moving up in the standings, it is already time to play the sophomores and freshman as much as possible. Moving players around with different lines and defensive pairings just has not worked and in fact may have caused more on ice confusion and lack of communication and cohesion.
I certainly agree with your previous post that this team showed so much more both in promise and performance earlier in the season and that something has changed with the effort. Sure, the other ECAC teams have improved, but this group of girls has a lot of talent up and down the line up. Some of it being used and shown but some of it not so much. Cannot exactly say why but they seem just not as sharp with puck control and sharpness of passing as they seemed earlier.
As far as Rampado - she can only be expected to do so much. She is a top notch goalie but cannot stand up to open shots and odd girl rushes for all 60 minutes especially when these plays are developing within only a few feet of her off rebounds and missed clearing attempts by the defense.
In spite of all of the above, I find this team fun and exciting to watch and for the most part competitive. I hope whatever changes that need to be made are thought about before they resume the rest of the season since it will not get any easier from her on.

Unfortunately the change that needs to be made is one that can't be made at this point of the season. He needs to be fired immediately after the season, and a search for a new head coach must happen right after that. This program will never improve until that happens. (I'm not convinced this program will ever improve even if they get a new head coach for next season, but a new head coach is definitely needed for any hope of improvement to even exist)

There is a post on eLynah http://elf.elynah.com/read.php?1,248962 quoting a site which states that the RPI women have about a 1/25 of winning the NCAA championship. As I posted in reply, I find that hard to believe, but ...

Do they also list what the chances are they we could get hit by lightning? Or attacked by a great white shark while sitting in the house about 10 miles from the ocean? There is a top tier in women's hockey and we are still a few steps away. We might in one game be able to beat one of those upper echelon teams, but to put together a streak of winning several times against them, just not even worth the effort to dream about right now.

Don't you live less than 10 miles from he ocean? ;-)
