Never mind, I watched the entire game on YouTube and she wasn't mentioned.

I agree with turk181 about Selander. If this game wasn't a fluke, and I don't think that it was, we haven't had this good a goalie since SvdB. She does have to control rebounds better. I wonder if she will be in the net again today. She split time about 50-50 last season at SDE. I was also impressed a lot with Josefine Hansen. Did anyone notice if there was a Danish flag for her?

I will miss this game also as I will be driving to the wilds of eastern Long Island. ;)

I agree with you Hab, it was a solid TEAM effort. It's unfortunate, though, that with 2min to play and being tied 3-3 to the #6 ranked team, that no one came to help/support the lone D battling 3 green jerseys in the defensive end. If they weren't helping in the corner they should've been covering an open player or picking up the eventual battle winner off wall. That one break down was tough to watch in a well played game because they probably would've gone to overtime and then who knows?! Selander was strong in net and has the potential "to steal games" which the team hasn't had in a while.
I hope the girls have enough in the tank today to give UND another tough match - they probably thought they were coming to romp like last year so the girls should be proud of their performance.

Yes Ralph, there was a Danish flag in the rafters. USA, Sweden, Finland Slovakian & Danish.

Glad to see they took my advice. ;) A much better showing overall by the D this weekend. No need for further adjustments for next weekend. You know what they say - if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Now let's turn our attention to the power play and penalty kill. Games are won and lost with special teams. It isn't a good sign that they seem to be picking up where they left off from last year when they were 30th out of 34 teams on the power play (9.7%) and dead last on the penalty kill (72.3%). Special teams has to be the top priority in practice this week and really until they get to about 15% on the power play and 85% on the penalty kill.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered elsewhere but can someone in the know answer this simple question, does RPI offer full athletic scholarships to it's women's hockey players? Thx!

Yes they offer the full 18 scholarships available. Think they split some and give full ones to some.

I'm not sure what the plan is for getting another AC, but kinda hard to compete against these teams that have FOUR coaches on their bench when we have TWO, one a relatively new one and one without a good track record of improving the play of his team over time.

Yes, special teams is where it's at, but you have to have 5 players on PP all on the same page and skill level to work an effective one (did you watch UND move the puck quickly?!). Movement, creativity and sniping capability is a bit limited as is the ability to recognize what's being given to you by the other teams kill group. Have to be able to adjust on the fly and not sure even the coach recognizes it sometimes so hard to expect girls on the ice to without some coaching. PK- thought they did ok at times, but tough to continue to be aggressive with the quick puck movement and not stoppage to make a change.

I agree with you fully. Too bad hockey isn't like football where you can decline a penalty call against your opponent. ;)

This is a bit of a mystery. Not having another assistant coach is a shortcoming at every level of running a D1 program properly. Has anyone seen a posting anywhere or does anyone know anything about this situation?

Apples and oranges my friend. Shiny apples (BC) vs bruised oranges. RPI is only D1 in hockey. To compare the two athletics departments is ridiculous.

If having four coaches on the bench is the recipe for success, you would have many teams hiring. Maybe you are seeing the trainer or equipment manager on the bench and assume that he/she is a 4th coach? I would say that most teams have 3 as a standard if you exclude goalie coaches, video coaches, etc. Having 4 would be unusual. Maybe I am wrong however two is on the short!

That may be the case, but looking at the UND website there are ELEVEN people on their coaches page! Yes, some don't travel with the team, but my guess is that there was HC, Assoc Coach, Asst. Coach, Volunteer Coach PLUS trainer and strength coach all at the games this weekend. There were FOUR behind the bench, plus 2 more (trainers?). More eyes, voices, coaching, etc. Then there was the RPI bench….

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I never said anything about 4 coaches but they have only 2 paid coaches still. The norm is 3 paid coaches so they are still short compared to everyone else. Not very smart.

My mistake - was replying to post made by hckypassion on the other team having four coaches.The 2 coach scene is not smart and needs to be looked after. Potential recruits will look at that as a weakness.
