RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

RPI_2003

A Hell of an Engineer
This is my first time creating one of these threads so perhaps we'll gain some beginner's luck.

In any event, last night was oh-so-close to a win and hopefully now that the guys have almost had a taste of success they'll come out fighting tonight! Sadly the end of the regular season is almost here so let's make the most of it.

LGR!

Say it again, LGR! Let's get some points at 'Gate. Eighth is possible. Union and Brown are tied in the standings.

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

Until we learn how to play with a third period lead-we will continue to suffer these last minute heroics by everyone else. This is not the first time Cornell has done this to us. They kept the puck in our zone with the extra man for the entire time, they won the face offs, they stopped the puck at the point, they checked and controlled behind the net, etc. In other words, they have been coached well in how to at least make the effort when you pull your goalie to create all the chances you can to get the tying goal. Why is it that even though we seem to be in that position of pulling the goalie so often, we rarely have any success at all and give up more empty net goals instead?

Actually, Union has 13 points to Brown's 11. But they could be tied after tonight (not likely, but possible). I'll say it too, LGR!

Our anemic power play doesn't tell you?

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

I did not listen last night but my other half told me the following-Cornell goal number one on the power play against us-immeidately we cleanly lost the face off, quick pass, shot and a goal against us. (deja vu all over again?) The tying goal, Cornell pulls their goaltender. Wins every face off in our zone, controls the puck for the entire time, we cannot clear the puck past the points over the blue line, Cornell forechecks us everywhere winning each puck battle against the boards, behind the net, etc and eventually scores the tying goal. (deja vu all over again)
What is that expression about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting to get a different result? We had this one leading 2-0 entering the third period against a team that has as much trouble as we do scoring goals. And we leave with a tie. This has happened so often I have come to expect it.

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

Doc, just going by the wrpi broadcast, I am not sure we even touched the puck after Cornell pulled the goalie.
As for getting the puck out of the zone, we are the worst. I have seen too many occasions when we had the puck to within a foot of getting it out, only to play it back further into our own zone. Just awful. We have no regard for the defensive blue line.

Can only hope for better tonight.
For those of us not in tune with this new fangled technology, can someone explain LGR?

Earlier this season in Troy, Cornell pulled their goalie late, I think we had a 2 goal lead, and they did everything but score. They had it in our end for what seemed like an eternity.Looked like Schaeffer remembered that? One would think Appert had our guys ready for that scenario.
Anyways, LGR!

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

November 2013 we had a 3-1 lead on Cornell and they pulled the goalie and scored two EAGs on us to tie the score. So this is indeed nothing new. Unfortunately very little is.

I remember that game as I attended. Not good. :(

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

The women defeated Colgate this afternoon 5-3. Let's make it a sweep. Their power play, even more anemic than the men, scored 4 PPGs, 5 on the weekend.

Does anyone know what happened to hab the last couple of weeks?

If you really want to go back, game 3 of 1998 playoffs at the field house. I could be wrong but for some reason I remember walking out and feeling especially miserable, like Cornell scored an extra attacker goal and GWG all in the last minute.

Re: RPI @ Colgate 2/21/15

I had a 3 Vicodin headache before tuning into WRPI-what are they playing? The blood vessels in my brain are exploding!

March 13th 1992, Boston Garden. Nothing more needs to be said.
