RPI 2026 Off-Season: Please Pardon Our Appearance As We Upgrade This Area

Most of the moves expected but still a bit shocking to see 9 names leaving - I wish them all success unless they end up playing games against us. There were lots of names listed rapidly but obviously some schools did not choose to put name up as yet. I suspect in the next day or 2 we will see a whole new group added.

Think Bruveris will go too, not sure why he's not in yet. Sucks about Wallace, he would have brought a veteran presence to a very youthful team. Albeit, he is pretty replaceable and half of his goals last year seemed to come with an empty net

Have not seen many Ivy players enter the portal - just 3 from Brown so far. Other than us and a few from QU and Clarkson, not many ECAC boys seem to want to leave as yet.

Union's leading scorer, Ben Muthersbaugh, is on the list. Also SLU's leading goal scorer Rasmus Svartstrom.
Saw those but not from the Ivy colleges. Looked over our list of boys and will miss a couple. Hope no one else show up on the list but have no idea. Would really hate to lose fellows with more than 1 year remaining. Wonder if any posted so far are being consider by coach Lang? He seems have a keen eye for picking talent and probably getting some could advice from staff.

With the other Canadian junior leagues now part of the player pool, I think that creates a bit more risk for those that elect to go into the portal. I always thought that the portal guys were mostly those that knew there was a team waiting for them or those that got cut. To the extent there was an in-between group taking a flyer on the portal, I think that number will shrink further--the scarcity value of being in a current roster spot has gone up.

Commitment from Brendan Ross from PC. Consider me very underwhelmed given all the talent currently available
I think the last transfer to RPI from PC with that kind of stat line was Chase Zieky, who, iirc, was the scoring leader on the 19-20 "what could have been" Dave Smith team.

ON the podcast, I thought Lang admitted that they were going to need to try to find some diamonds in the rough, meaning they were going to need to pull in some castaways who rode the pine on bigger teams.

Good size. Only played in three games for Leaman. Dunno if that was due to injury or the depth chart...

Isn't he one of those boys that has the designated student athlete notation? I still really do not understand the ramifications of it but I don't think he counts as a roster player. But what happens if he is no longer at his original school? Which in this case is not Providence College but I believe Alaska Fairbanks???

Exactly my thoughts. A roster spot is now much more coveted. For some fellows it sometimes appears that the grass is always greener somewhere else but they do not understand that often the greenest grass lies over the septic tank!!

Yes DOC he was a DSA meaning he didn`t count against the 26 man roster limit. Sounds like he wasn`t on an athletic scholly. I guess we have to trust the staff on this one.

He got a nice 50k to sit in their press box half the year
In other words, his contract wasn't renewed.

Coach Lang recruited one of his teammates in junior at Blackfalds. Ross was the team's top player and 2nd in the league in scoring despite playing far fewer games (that was the year Blackfalds and other teams announced they were leaving the league so teams stopped playing them). My guess is that Lang saw him then and thinks there is untapped potential. The hope would be to have a Zieky-like resurgence.

I don't believe that has any impact for us because we didn't opt in to the settlement. Schools that did are limited to 26 players on the roster (all potentially on scholarship) plus those that were grandfathered as "designated student athletes." We have no roster limit, just the 18 scholarship limit.

Edit: I see this was addressed above with probably a more relevant answer.

All true. And there are many ways to craft aid packages, especially if they are true student-athletes.

He wasn't even good at Alaska. The AJHL is a weak league. With guys like Daniel Shlaine, Landen Gunderson, Cade Littler, Lee Parks, John McNelis, Jake Rozzi, David Klee (sound familiar?), and MANY more all available who have USHL scoring pedigree, this is a miss. Plenty more will continue to enter too
