RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luc Wilson committed from Mankato. Honestly, I'm a bit underwhelmed by our portal additions outside of Sobieski and Wallace. Lindberg had 11 points in the Atlantic, Wilson had 13 points in the CCHA, and Bono wasn't much of a contributor on a bad Merrimack team. I don't really agree with the takes that it's an upgrade on what we had before. Wallace is pretty comparable to what Heidemann was when he transferred. Sobieski is like a TJ Walsh type of transfer but at defenseman instead of forward
C'mon sezenack, take a page from my book and be more positive!!!

Does anyone know how many players we have committed for the coming season at this point?
And how many we expect to have in October?
I doubt anyone here really knows. For that matter, Lang undoubtedly has an good idea but isn't certain. He's trying to identify who to keep of the limited guys remaining while identifying and recruiting targets in the portal and culling through Dave's list to see who he thinks will fit his system and determining if they are still interested. It's probably changing every day. Meanwhile he's getting to know the returning staff and taking their input on recruits, roster, etc. Lastly, he's recruiting a top assistant. It used to be that there was a bit of a lull after the season, but the portal and this year's addition of CHL eligibility (which probably scrambled recruiting lists all over the country), has shot that to hell even for veteran coaches.

To AspyDad's point about using the transfer showcase to generate connections with "advisors" (can we just call them agents now?), I'll bet Lang has his ear to the ground to get word on prospects that probably thought they were inbound this year at big schools only to find out they've been pushed out or even dropped for portal or CHL guys. Those may provide a second wave of recruits during the period when coaches used to take their vacations. We can offer ice time......

Totally agree! When's the last time we had someone from Shattuck. Pencil the Engineers in for home PO game next year. Keep it going Eric.
If you are talking women, this season. Two of the regulars, including the starting goalie, went to SSM. For men, it's been a long time. The only two I remember are Alex Rodriguez and, not to touch on a sore point, Ben Barr.

Buddy we lost 20 games 6 times anything is an upgrade !

RPI's sports information dept is a joke. It is in dire need of an overhaul, to be honest they put out better material a decade ago which is inexcusable
Not correct. Totally excusable and completely understandable. A decade or so ago we had the gold standard of sports information (KB & PL) doing this stuff. Anybody trying to duplicate those levels my as well be swimming up from the bottom of a river or lake only to find a foot thick layer of ice at the top for their troubles.

In short, just about anyone trying to measure up to the department's past is going to have about as much chance of succeeding as the following:

1) An Oriental gal getting the guy at the end of a Hallmark Movie.
2) The coach who came after Lombardi (remember Phil Bengston???).
3) The coach who came after Wooden (remember Gene Bartow???).
4) The coach who came after Saban (the poor soul who is trying to do it presently).

Really? What more do you want to know about Eric Lang? Sounds like a creepy request.
Huh? It’s not about Lang. They do no interviews, no promoting, no advertising, nothing to get to know the players. How do you read that as I want to know the ins and outs of Langs personal life? It’s about taking promotion seriously to help attendance and fanfare. Weird comment

Agree with this, as the person who first raised the marketing / promotion piece.

Brand new coach, injecting life into a moribund program, restoring the energy and enthusiasm amongst students, staff, alumni and the community. What a great opportunity!

Tell me a bit about him, showcase his background, give me a feel for his expectations and priorities as he rebuilds the team, create some buzz about it. A 90 second video of him saying "here's what matters to me". Some quotes from hockey alums about him being hired. Some candid photos or videos of him talking about recruitment.

All of that is to help make this feel like a program that guys want to join and that fans want to support.

Yup. Here is your chance to drum up a ton of momentum and energy for the guy in the fan base (which will help him on the recruiting trails)

men's hockey main webpage still shows Smith as head coach: https://rpiathletics.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey (see quick links on right, although the link doesn't work).

we should do some promo nights aside from freakout to get the crowds back to they way it use to be
Promo nights aren’t a bad idea, but here are 3 suggestions that will get the crowds back:
1. WIN! Fans don’t want to go to watch the team win 3 home games the entire season.
2. Get rid of the 3 PM games. Attendance was very poor at the afternoon games.
3. Free parking. We are one of the only ECAC schools that charge for parking. Ticket prices are high enough.

Random Union fan here, but I couldn’t agree more about the 3pm games, which have taken root at Union and elsewhere too. They’re just awful, totally kill student attendance in particular. I’m sure it’s about saving another night of hotel fares, but c’mon, this is D1 hockey, not club broomball.

RPI's only 3PM games last year were non-conference around holidays (Thanksgiving, X-Mas-New Years week). Union looks like they have a deal with the other ECAC schools that all of their Saturday games, home and away, start at 4pm. Do any teams stay over on Saturday nights? I thought teams headed home right after the Saturday games, unless there was a huge distance, e.g. Dartmouth to Princeton.
