RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with this, as the person who first raised the marketing / promotion piece.

Brand new coach, injecting life into a moribund program, restoring the energy and enthusiasm amongst students, staff, alumni and the community. What a great opportunity!

Tell me a bit about him, showcase his background, give me a feel for his expectations and priorities as he rebuilds the team, create some buzz about it. A 90 second video of him saying "here's what matters to me". Some quotes from hockey alums about him being hired. Some candid photos or videos of him talking about recruitment.

All of that is to help make this feel like a program that guys want to join and that fans want to support.
Well said

I too am focus on defense (and even more on special teams play). Correct those two aspects of play and we can be close most nights. Try to do what we can to improve the things that killed our chances game after game for a couple years. Hoping that time will produce the chemistry necessary to play all three periods as a team instead of individuals. And of course, not to be over looked, making sure the boys come out of the locker room and are ready to go full throttle at the beginning of every period of every game. Sure hated to look up at the screen and see we were down 2-0 before the ice melted in my drink!! Our OOC record will be mostly dependent on who we play. if we face mostly HE teams we will struggle a whole lot more if the schedule has mostly Atlantic conference games. The success of the season, however will ride on how we handle the 22 ECAC games. If as usual there are 2 or 3 top teams running away from the rest, then how we compete against the larger group below them will determine whether we can find a way to the four at Lake Placid or not.
Defense leads to offense! Lang is going to get players that compete in all aspects of the game. A team game for that matter.
I know it was maddening watching past couple seasons constantly trailing after 1st period. The team was never ready to play. Lang can recruit make no mistake about it. He will have some big time recruits coming in next season. They need a goalie doc.

All true, and yes we need a goalie. But several good defensemen can make even a mediocre goalie look much better (and perhaps vice versa). Like everyone else here, I have no clue what we will have for next year but watching what appears to be being added (versus what we are losing) gives me the thought tht at least in conference only, we may not be in as much trouble as i had first feared.

I agree doc. Plus we know this will be a well coached team.

Ironically we do have some good defensive recruits coming next year. Not sure how Dave managed to recruit good defensemen to a team that gives up over 4 goals a game but can’t recruit forwards to a team that averaged over 3 goals a game? Figure that one out? Lol

Mike McMahon observation - One of the most physical players in College Hockey last season (hits per 60). '
He’s a 4th line grinder for sure. He’s gonna add some grit and sandpaper to the team.
I’m hoping we get Alex zetterberg from bu or Isaac Gordon from Michigan tech.

Oh yeah he’s a hammer! Pk guy
Hits everything in site
In Lang we trust I guess. Offensively, this guy is the definition of a D3 player. There's really no such thing in college hockey as a true enforcer - hell, we play in the ECAC where if you are a big guy your time in the box is proportional to the decibel level from your hits, even some of the legal ones. However, we do need guys that can play sound defensive hockey and will make and finish solid checks while remaining disciplined enough not to draw excessive penalties. Gordon spent too much time in the box as a freshman but cut it back to just a couple of minors this season. If he can play sound defense and continue to provide disciplined physical play he will be an asset even if he will rarely be in the goal congratulations line.

Gordon was tampered with to enter by a bigger program and is reportedly getting an NIL deal along with it. Not an option for us
