RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know what the entire East Campus Athletic Village cost? I realize that it was constructed more than ten years ago, each part is either much smaller or doesn't include a building and is for D-III athletics. However it gives an idea of what level of funding RPI could devote for athletics.

It’s also tiny (2,200 seats) and even then it’s either going to be quite basic or I don’t believe the number.

UConn spent north of $70M for the 2,600 seat Toscano Forum. It should be a bit higher in capacity as they wasted space with a student standing room deck and an ice level table top setup replacing several hundred seats behind one of the nets).

Sacred Heart’s cost estimates went $60M -> $70M -> $75M -> $84 M according to the submission below from the architects. That’s for a truly striking arena at the old GE HQ campus, but the claim that it seats 3,600 is fiction. It seats about 3,000 (2,600 in the bowl plus several hundred upstairs). It might get to 3,600 with standing room.

I think SHU is a good model from a size perspective (3K seated, 3.5K total) and I don’t think we need something quite so fancy (e.g. bar and dining club on the upper level, massive glass wall over-looking the Merritt Parkway, etc.) but you are looking at $70M-$80M for a new building of that size.

Union's rink is right-sized to their fanbase and size of the school and will be nearly identical to Colgate. (Sidebar: Yes, I am aware no one attends Gate games, as I have attended many.) SHU's rink is lovely. The impact ALL of these rinks have on recruiting cannot be understated (Ex: Union brought it two portal kids from Michigan this week)

Sadly, I don't expect RPI to build anything. Wish I did, but until they demonstrate ANY level of commitment to the fans above a now two-year old tease about facility upgrade study, it's just dreaming unfortunately. It would be nice if they fixed the ice so at least the players had a decent playing surface. Completing deferred maintenance on a 40 year old ice system is my lone request. Sad.

I believe Phase I was about $80 million and Phase II was $40Mish in 2007 dollars. The mistake they made was not building a new rink as part of that project...in my view. Now they'll pay double for whatever they decide to do, if anything.

Interestingly, I found this blurb about HFH on the RPI giving page which actually mentions "potential enhancements" :

Houston Field House East End Complex

The Houston Field House, the current home of our Division I men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, seats more than 4,800 fans, and features six locker rooms, numerous offices, and several meeting spaces. In order to ensure these student-athletes realize their full potential as individuals and team members, we are committed to providing them with first-rate student support services, exceptional coaching and teaching, and world-class facilities. New facilities, or upgrades to current facilities, have been completed by over 75% of hockey programs in the ECAC and Hockey East. Evidence shows there is a strong correlation between investing in new or upgraded facilities and winning NCAA titles for our competitors.

While our new locker room, lounge, video room, and weight room have helped us remain competitive, we have much more work to do in order to bring home the national championship. Potential enhancements to the East End of the Houston Field House include an educational area and hockey improvement room to enhance the student-athlete experience; four new corporate suites and event spaces; a complete renovation of stadium seating; upgrades to restrooms, and additional facilities; and renovations to visiting teams’ locker rooms.

Well, that was a nothing burger thanks to RoDger knowing absolutely zero about the game of hockey. He actually mistook Mathias for Coach Lang's son.... LOL Can't make it up. He should just invited Kenny Schott onto the show to conduct the interview. Seriously.

Took from it that he needs players ASAP. As you know Dave had one whole class that he cut. Unbelievable, Thanks Dave!

Ok - here's the very few tidbits from the conversation:

- The need is "10-13 players for the Fall... we are sorting through the incoming recruits with great help from Mathias and Zirnis. "
- "I made 33 phone calls yesterday and will likely make another 30 today.".....
- "it's a balancing getting the right people and the players you want.
- "No short cuts, No band aids. "
