RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

I think you have to take the attitude that first year, even the first two, are rebuilds and you are happy for whatever success you manage to get. It's tough for us as fans after having waited so long for that success to come and we're impatient now, but if his coaching is as much an improvement as reported we might be pleasantly surprised even with the interim results.
Great if it actually does happen. If not could always resort to some sort of goofy gimacry to try and drum up some kind of general public interest in this program again. At least above and beyond what was probably an all time (over seven decades) worst per game average attendance of 2,181. It's been done before and it's still being done elsewhere.

The Syracuse Crunch once had an early start time game followed by a Village People concert. They sold the joint out.

Some minor independent league baseball team (forgot which) once had an early start time game followed by a card of professional wrestling. Supposedly, it worked and drew a big gate.

Some time ago, the Fieldhouse itself played host to the San Diego Chicken for a between period on ice routine. The place went bananas at the guy's routine. The Chicken could actually skate for real.

Then inbetween you can always splice in the standard people wearing big heads sausage, mayor or president races. Only now it would be speed skating races. Might go over as people elsewhere seem to eat this stuff up.

Some gimacry combined with a well designed (ugh!!! well designed- RPI???) ad campaign could be just what the doctor ordered.

Well designed as in emphasizing the past (albeit distant past in our case), promising the future then hoping and praying that no one notices the present. Kind of like what the Mets tried in their darkest era some four and a half decades ago with their "The Magic Is Back" campaign. Hopefully, our current day version would actually fool anyone and work out better than that one did.

Today is 10 May 2025. There are 147 days (21 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season.

Luckily we need another goalie and a few more forwards. I think between the CHL and the portal we can find this. Defense we’re set
We definitely need another goalie. We may not need any forwards or only one or two. It is far from clear how many forward recruits are expected. Kyrkostas is a given. I have been adding Ziliotto. However Janus and Shaw are both very possible. Janus would have to come because he is a 2004 unless we have dropped him. Shaw doesn't have to come, but he is an early 2005. It could be that things depend on whether we can find better players than those elsewhere.

Is there anyone who has access to the RPI online directory who can check on who has been entered?

I was just pointing out the reality of the situation.
As long as the coach gets his players on board and they play 60 minutes every game, I will be very happy no matter the outcome of the games this year.
I look forward to the growth of this team in the next few years.

We just have to avoid overtime. ;)

The student directory is still only available for people at RPI unfortunately

I figured as much, but it can't hurt to ask. :)

It's also possible that a current student reads this thread, and if they don't want to post they could send a private message.

Couldn't agree more and said as much way back in the annals of this thread's history. Whatever they can do to get butts in the seats and generate some buzz should be high on the AD's to do list. Near the top of that list should be having a real social media and online engagement presence worthy of a D-1 program! Case in point, looking at rpiathletics.com TODAY and I see "Head Coach Dave Smith" in the quick links sidebar on the Men's Hockey page. That's pretty inexcusable since it's been two months since he was sacked and a month since his replacement was announced. I get that we're a small school, limited resources, yada yada but as Coach Lang said, we need to be good at the things that require NO talent. Keeping the team's website current seems like one of those things. As for social media, email, cross-promotions, everyone's staring at their phones - put some Cherry and White content there for them to look at!

RPI social media platform is abysmal. Keeping fans engaged for the hockey program is a joke unfortunately. I certainly hope coach lang can maybe get the AD on board with getting this up to par for a D1 program.

Considering that we only have two known recruits still playing, and Hilditch is in the BCHL, I suspect that someone from the staff has watched him recently.
I would imagine so. Hopefully they watched Calle larsson his teammate. Kid put up some great numbers this season.

If I can sneak in a non-hockey post here...

RPI's baseball team has won the Liberty League championship. After losing the first game of the double-elimination tournament to Ithaca, 13-1  , the Engineers rattled off four consecutive victories over Clarkson (10-1), Skidmore (14-3), Ithaca (16-6), and Ithaca once more (4-1) to take the title.

And---- the Lacrosse team has reached the NCAA Quarterfinals next weekend and will face Dickinson Saturday in an attempt to play in the semifinals (probably against highly ranked and regarded RIT. Overall the boys have a record of 16-3!!
