RPI 2025–26: Off the Critical List and In Recovery

Today is 1 September 2025. There are 34 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2025 for the start of next season.

A non-hockey note:

I was just looking at the school website with the new logo. I'm gradually coming to terms with it. On the home page I noticed the usual sort of claims regarding the ROI on an RPI education, starting salaries and research participation. The fourth one, however, floored me. I love my alma mater, but on what planet would it be the "2nd happiest college?" Every generation life up the hill in Troy seems to get a bit milder (I'm sure Ralph, Doc, etc. have some frightening stories), but in my day they were still giving the "look to your right, look to your left - one of you won't be here at graduation" talk. Perhaps it was someone from Lally, but eventually they must have done a basic analysis to determine that given the acquisition cost of new customers (students), it might not be something to pursue or brag about. Nonetheless, things can't have changed that much. 2nd happiest????????? Apparently it was some sort of AI-based analytical study of facial expressions from student selfies. Further proof that even the latest technologies are susceptible to GIGO.

I past that info to my daughter an RPI grad and she laughed. Next she asked where and how did they get that data?

It is amongst the most bogus of claims.

A blog used AI to analyze the facial emotions of Instagram posts from students at universities in the U.S., UK and Australia to determine which ones were the most positive. Evidently posts tagged as being at RPI or from RPI students ranked second highest in the U.S.

The write-up is here: https://resume.io/blog/the-happiest-schools-in-the-us-uk-and-australia

It's pretty ridiculous and I'm really surprised RPI would promote it.

(That said, perhaps the students are truly joyous now because of the revitalized prospects of the men's hockey team under savior new coach Eric Lang.)

rpi82 was correct that AI generated it. It is indeed ridiculous that RPI would post it, unless that was also generated by AI.

Splitting hairs here but I Called the box office yesterday to see when season tickets will be available for pickup only to find out you can’t pick them up until the pizza party which they have no idea when that will be?? The first girls game is 2 weeks away. You can pick them up possibly at the girls game I was told lol or they will mail them in the next few weeks. That’s literally what I was told?
So in short who the fuck knows when you will get them or how to get them lol

That sums it up.

For those football fans interested. RPI opens their season this Saturday at WPI and is listed as a 21.5 point favorite. The RPI roster was finally posted today and the offensive and defensive lines appear to be about the biggest we have had in my memory. The RPI athletic site however is still way behind as there are still no pictures posted for the individual football, men's hockey, or women's hockey squads. As an added note, there never was a team picture posted from all of last year for the women's hockey. I suppose the camera has been broken for some time now:rolleyes:

Edit: There also seems to be no information available about any media coverage for any of these 3 sports from WRPI-FM or RPI-TV

I honestly don't understand the lack of basic functionality in the sports information dept. You can name literally any other regional school - large or small - and see it done more timely and professionally.

I can only surmise that the funding is not there to staff the department adequately....which is beyond disappointing and impacts all of the teams at RPI. Having an AD who came from a robust athletic department at BU, she obviously has seen it done well. I can only assume that funding is the issue.

Only coverage information available anywhere is on the WPI site. The have no radio. Only a webcast behind a paywall that only offers a monthly rate (about $30) or an annual rate (about $90). No daily rate.

A quick check of the Wiki page of the company the NEWMAC Conference chose to do business with for their webcasts should be self explanatory. Frankly, after reading that, you would have to be either/or both a village idiot or a brain dead vegetable to even consider giving this outfit your credit care number or any personal information for that matter.

It is not funding. The list of present athletics and facilities hierarchy is at least as long, if not longer, than the list of past athletic people who are no longer here.

Two of those past people alone kept the website at a crown jewel level of D3 websites as opposed to what it has now degenerated in to. Add a number of other past athletic people who also carried out duties other than website at a high level but now all work elsewhere and you get what you got.

What's that old saying??? A company's website is a snapshot of a company's soul.

I think Cecilia, who did a great job running the season tickets and box office, got promoted last year or the year before--can't remember exactly, I skipped season tickets last year due to my own schedule. But she seemed overworked in the box office and I don't think they added more permanent staff. I think the remaining box office staff is student help, so it might pick up this week as school settles in and students get the work study jobs.
