RPI 2022 Off-season: Surely, We Deserve Better

Oh yee of little faith. I have seen the light. I wrote an email to Dr. McElroy yesterday expressing my concerns about the situation. Of course he ignored everything I wrote (while thanking me for the "kind and thoughtful note"), but he assured me, "The University and the Men's Hockey program will continue to prosper." Now I know there's a plan. It's been cleverly hidden from the team, coaches, students, fans and the general public, but there is a plan. So rest easy........

Today is 2 April 2022. There are 182 days (26 weeks) until RPI's next game. There are 90 days until RPI has a new president.

This is based upon 1 October 2022 for the start of next season and 1 July 2022 for the end of @#$%^.

I sent a email years ago with concerns about the program and it was the same exact response from McElroy “thank you for the kind and thoughtful note” word for word. Lee the house is burning down and everyone is concerned the damage being done is irreversible??!! “Thanks for noticing it’s a dumpster fire but the university will continue to prosper”

This has been the same M.O. from McElroy from the start. Wait till the last minute, do what seems easiest, impact minimal. Nothing changes. The administration as a whole does not care about RPI Hockey.

Maybe, and I do mean maybe, Schmidt kept interested in RPI hockey after his recent RPI degree as he moved on to MIT when RPI won it all. Then again MIT has no DI sports and I am unsure of how well or not they support their DIII sports.

True Linden added a few minutes ago. There are some good D-man in the portal

Yes there are - but why would anyone want to commit to a place with all this uncertainty currently? I wonder what is going through the minds of the recruits that Ralph follows so carefully for us? The longer this goes on, time gets shorter for those boys who genuinely wanted to come to Troy.

The good news is that there is little doubt the "prosperity" will continue to some degree as our "esteemed leader" has pointed out.

The bad news is we are only "prosperous" if the gold standard reference point being applied is the LSU Men's Basketball Program. Under NCAA investigation for major violations and the ENTIRE 2021-2022 roster either out of eligibility or in the transfer portal.

No matter how bad it is here, there is always someone else worse off somewhere. In that respect we should all be very thankful for our current state of 'prosperity" and be totally "appreciative" of the individuals who have worked so "hard and competently" to maintain that "prosperity".

Zach Dubinsky is going to Mich State.

why would any player stay or transfer into this debacle?
why would coach Smith stay? He would be an asset at Union.
And why would any coach come to this program until new leadership is installed?

for all the great things RPI taught me about strategic thinking, planning, and execution; this is an embarrassing cluster, top to bottom. Shameful and disrespectful to a group of athletes and men/women who have demonstrated multi-year commitments to doing their best.

the dreadful administration could at least do the same in kind upon exiting. Disgusting.

Interesting choice. I guess he's not leaving in pursuit of greater stability. MSU lost 15 out of its last 16 games and I've seen fans indicate the fact that Coach Danton Cole is still around is proof that the administration doesn't care about program.

Maybe he thought that the offer was from the MSU in the Frozen 4. :-D

Has DS’s contract expired? For some reason I thought it end the first of April. So is there technically no head coach at this point?

NY is an at-will state meaning that even when his contract expires, he is still the head coach. He'll still be the head coach unless they terminate him or he leaves.
