The transfer portal is a private database only available to ADs and coaches. AspyDad does not have direct access to the portal lol. If he knows something, it's because someone told him about it not because he "checked the portal".

Today is 11 November 2020. In honor of Meagan Byrum, there are 16 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 27 November 2020 (day after Thanksgiving) for the start of next season.

Was Coach Smith omniscient having a fourth goalie this year?

Seriously, I wonder how many others we will lose if we don't play this year.

I suspect that if the ECAC doesn't play this year all of the teams will be losing players. I also believe that they will be the most talented players, as their aspirations are to play in the pros.
This would not be good for college hockey in general.

This is exactly what I was referring to with the Babichuk situation. Thanks to zero information being shared (apparently not even with the players) by the RPI admin., the athletes are left only to wonder/worry and in some cases plan their exit....here's hoping it isn't a mass exodus.

I didn’t know that Rory Herrman transferred to the women’s team...

Happy Veteran’s Day to all RPI and other military men and women who served (or who are serving) our great nation.

Frankly, given the joke we ae witnessing as big time football programs are constantly cancelling games or shuffling schedulels, I could understand if they decided not to have a hockey season. If, however, it's as has been represented here, the players can't even work out and have not been kept in the loop on discussions regarding a decision on the matter, then I wouldn't blame any player that opted to move on. I have generally been of mixed opinion on Shirley's tenure (albeit steadily trending toward the negative as time goes on) but there is no excuse for treating those that are impacted by her actions as if they are unworthy of input and attention. Some day we'll find out where she keeps the Polaroids of BoT members on bearskin rugs.

Maybe shirley has her name in the Transfer portal to DC?? Slight chance I suppose that Savory is testing the waters and hasn`t made up his mind 100 percent.

Agree all the way around. Literally every other ECAC school is skating in some way shape or form, save for one. So not only are the players in the dark, but they are losing months of weight room and ice time that could at least keep them fit and continuing their skill development and learning the system that Smith has going. I feel badly for the players....who apparently are caught in Shirley's vortex of silence.

Am I the only one worried that the program just took a huge step back to square one? I'm a huge fan of Dave Smith, and he's done an excellent job building this program. But Owen Savory is one of the best goaltenders in the country, and goalies of his caliber don't just grow on trees. Every coach says you need a #1 goaltender to go far, and Linden Marshall has not proven himself to be a #1 in his career. The whole basis of this year's team was to be built on defense. It started with Savory, continued with a cohesive, well-rounded blue line, and finished with forwards who can play in all 3 zones. Now, you take away Savory. The team has good depth in the forwards, and they should be able to score some. This isn't going to be some explosive 3+ goals a game offense though. And without Savory, how good do we think this defense is going to be? Even optimistically, it's tough to see them do any better than last season's unit.

I believe in Dave Smith as a coach, but I think he just got dealt an impossible hand this year. And if the season gets cancelled, that shows a clear lack of administration commitment, which I'm worried will negatively impact recruiting in the long term.

Would love to hear your opinions? I've been quite sad all day about losing Savory. I didn't realize it was possible to hate this administration more than I already did, but hey they manage to keep doing it!

I agree with you. As already said, SAJ has never supported the hockey program, and the current situation plays into her hand. One can only guess what other bad news we will hear in the near future.

I have said that if the entire ECAC cancels the season, I will go along with it. Considering how many games have been cancelled or postponed by the junior leagues which our players compete in, and how many college football games have been similarly affected, I fully expect that to happen in college hockey also. Although I feel that a season of some sort should be attempted, I can go along with a league decision not to play. My problem is with RPI not playing but with Clarkson and SLU playing, even if the Ivies don't play.

I don't expect RPI to lose a lot of current players to power schools because most of our players are not as good as what they have. Savory is an exception and a few others as well as some recruits may be also, but losing players to other ECAC and AHA schools is very possible. Also, the **** by SAJ could cause us to lose Coach Smith when a vacancy shows up. The weird way we hired him produced a very good result despite the fact that we all thought it was a poor way to find a new coach.

Sezenack,
I know that current RPI students in general don't care about sports, but are you hearing anything from typical students about this? That means, not other members of the Red Army.

Edit: Friday the 13th is tomorrow. Is bad news inevitable? ;-)

Have to agree with everything here. I have been saying and thinking most of this for years (with the obvious exception of the Savory situation as in the past there was not much chance of quality players leaving). It became obvious to me that the school I had graduated from, the school that i supported and donated to for decades, and the hockey program I worshiped and donated to since the mid 1960's was being slowly degraded in so many respects. Although technically not an Ivy league member, many aspects of this school were considered by many to be Ivy like or near Ivy. The hockey program had been a shining star and known and respected among the 60 or so Division I programs. Up until recently, in spite of all the problems surfacing over the past years, I still held out hope that we could see a return of status. It appears to me that this pandemic is being used by some (or many) to accomplish goals that could not be forced upon us or enforced otherwise. I guess they believe in 'never allow a crisis to go to waste'. After about 20 years of watching this, i suppose i should have expected it is hard for me to swallow and i will probably take Jericho's sage advice and have it go down easier with a couple Vodka Gimlets. (Rant over)

Sezenack - your take on all of this is spot on.

Spot on. I agree 100%. The long term impact will be on recruiting and I fear we'll lose some who are already in the pipeline....and as has been mentioned, Smith could also jump should an attractive opening come along.
