RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Does this surprise anyone? Does it concern anyone? Again I would point out Wisconsin, with several high round draft picks, finished dead last in the Big Ten and B.U. with, I think, 12 first rounders finished sixth in Hockey East. My point: be careful what you wish for. I am not saying they don't care about the team at all,but the stars in college hockey have their eyes firmly focused on what's next for them as individuals and not on the performance of the team. These folks' plan is to go pro sooner rather than later. Not a recipe for team success.

It would be nice to get one or two selections a year, even if they are Mr. Irrelevant like Reilly was.

I agree. I personally would like a handful of NHL picks sprinkled in. I think a mix of top-tier NHL talent and older players who will be here 4 years is ideal. That's what you see with teams like Cornell, Quinnipiac and Clarkson, and those are also the top ECAC programs right now, seemingly confirming that's how you should build a team.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Rather than having drafted players on the team, i would like to see our current and future players improve enough to get a shot at the NHL after their time at RPI.

I agree, but there is definitely a positive correlation between being drafted and being a good college player. That is, it is more likely that a player drafted by the NHL will play well in college than one who is not. I don't think that having all drafted players is good, but having some is an indication of a good college team.

Without naming names because some here don't want their names to appear, two former RPI recruits are on the list near the bottom (#200 and #211). The first was probably just using RPI before getting another offer and then going major junior, and the other i think would have become a fan favorite in Troy.

RPI was counted as D-III for this.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

I count at least six Division I hockey programs listed under Division II on the Helper Helper list.

They must have been going by the division where each school's basketball team plays - in which case it makes sense to have RPI in Division III.

Or they could be going by enrollment. University of Mary?? Lol.

Sorry. I realized that they had grouped the schools by their overall division, not the one in which they played hockey.

The University of Mary is in North Dakota, but they are ACHA.

Re: RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

With all of the real and simulated hockey completed and all the real awards given out, we can now declare college hockey season closed for the 2019-2020 season. Hope all my fellow posters have a Happy and Safe Easter and hope to chat with all of you during the off-season... :)

In case anyone cares, Sean Pickett has uploaded the broadcast of the 10/26/91 opening day loss at BU. It’s mentioned here. The direct link to his uploaded files is here.

Fifty years ago today, a recipient of a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from RPI (Hartford campus) uttered seven historically famous words: "Okay Houston, we've had a problem here."
