Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

I have been debating whether I should post this here for two days now, but it is the offseason so why not, and it isn't dribble. I suspect that many people here, especially those in the CD, have seen it already.

Video showing that Cornell recruits pylons for its lacrosse team also. ;) From the playoff game vs. Albany State: http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015...n-albany-lacrosse-goal-wow-SEND-IT-IN-BIG-MAN

An absolute classic. Wouldn't you love to see Kazzy pull off a move like that? 😛
Not to nitpick Ralph, but they are not Albany State anymore. They are now known as UAlbany (short for University at Albany). There is an Albany State college in Georgia and they didn't want to be confused with them.
And I wish I could remember when the RPI Field House changed their name to HFH. I know I was there that night when they had the dedication but what year it was escapes me.

BTW, I looked it up and the name change to HFH took place on opening night of the 78-79 season in memory of former RPI president Livingston Houston who passed away early in 1978.

I would love to see him or any of our goalies do it, but the equipment would make it even more difficult.

They are still Albany State to me, just as Clarkson is CCT. :)

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

You are correct, Ralph. The first renovation was following the 1983 season, when they removed most of the poles after removing the roof and lowering the roof back down to the 4 remaining poles. At the same time, they lowered the ice surface and moved the surface about 15 feet towards the front of the building. Also adding Sections 2-5 and 18-21 in the corners.

They didn't necessarily move the surface, they made it longer. Prior to the refurb, the ice was neither regulation length, nor width.

I always thought they were SUNY Albany.

You may be right. All I know is that prior to the refurb, my seats were on the goal line. After the refurb, they were at the faceoff circle. And my seats were the same before and after.

Actually, they were Albany State first, changed it to SUNY Albany, and then shortened it to UAlbany. I have season tickets for football so I'm well aware of all the name changes. And they have gone from Division III to Division I in all sports since 1999. They even used to have a club hockey team (even played RPI a LOOOONG time ago).

I do remember around the mid-90's or so the changing of the common name from SUNY Plattsburgh to Plattsburgh State; perhaps that occurred with UAlbany as well as UB (SUNY Buffalo) around the same time.

The equipment would make it difficult, but the rules might make it even more so.

Isn't there a rule that says the goalie cannot carry the puck past center ice?

I think that you are correct, and in lacrosse the goalie can go anywhere as long as someone else stays back.

I'm not so sure about the someone else stays back being a rule so much as it being a halfway decent idea. Soccer goaltenders may play up, but obviously may only handle the ball within their own 18.

I haven't been to a lacrosse game since I was at RPI, and there certainly could have been a rule change since then, but I remember that when a defender went forward, a midfielder would stay back, because only a certain number of players could go into the attack zone. Then again I could have forgotten. :D

Looks like that's the case in lacrosse, at least according to this site: http://www.simplylacrosse.com/how-to-play-lacrosse.html

I stand corrected concerning lacrosse.

I'm pretty sure they lengthened towards the ticket office end....I think :)

Today is 14 May 2015. There are 2 days until the NY Rangers next game. (Sorry Ralph, I just couldn't resist. Your Washington team has a few dirtbags including Wilson, Or***** and Ovi.)

Lets Go Rangers!
