Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

I'd like to see a Blackhawks - Rangers final, that would be fun to watch. It seems to me that they are the two teams with the most speed who also play a more skating-oriented game.

It would be weird to see the obverse, it just strikes me as bizarre for an ice hockey team to play for a city where the temperature never goes below freezing.

I always like to see the final with 2 of the original six involved. Rangers now 9/16 of the way to the cup but there is no doubt this is the hardest championship in professional sports to win. You need 2 octipi to win and each of these series are just brutal to survive.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Freakout was originally devised to get a big crowd for a stretch-drive game against a league opponent at a time when RPI was always on the bubble in regards to making the ECAC playoffs. The intent was to energize the home crowd and increase attendance at the last few home games and create momentum for the post-season. Senior night is always the last home game of the season, so Freakout would never be the same night. It is a shame that Freakout opponents are sometimes Clarkson or Cornell. It should be a game against a low-draw team such as Princeton or Brown, but the ECAC schedule doesn't always work out that way.

Agree with all of that. RPI used to come down to Princeton every other year early(November). But it seems now we get them on the schedule for b oth home and away games later. We have been playing them more often in January/February than in the old days.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

True, but I don't think we ever had a shot at Jarred. Same thing with Jordan (Zach's brother). Mark Zarbo however, a transfer, was a clear play to get Matt and Joe, who ended up going to CCT. We did get the last laugh with Mike Zalewski, at least until he bolted for the pros.

don’t rule out current players/recruits.
Jespar Orhvall’s brother, Emil, committed today ;)

Black Friday I wouldn't necessarily consider to be a revenue game, unless they've stopped the students-get-in-free deal.

They hadn't as of last season, and I doubt they will this year.

When I started at RPI (and I believe it happened at least three out of the four years I was a student), the Dartmouth weekend was when we now seem to regularly play Princeton/QPac; freshman year with UVM, the others with Harvard. Some of our schedule seemed strikingly similar to the 09-10 league schedule at first glance (it's not the same, mind you), so there may be some sort of a rotation going on. It's a lot nicer, at least for us, to have away games while our students are on break, despite the administration pushing the start of the spring semester back a week from when it was when I was there (we had started the week of MLK Day).

WaP has tweeted that the other two teams at the Notre Dame tourney are WMU and Harvard. We get WMU the first night with Ben Barr as Associate Head Coach.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

These are our incoming recruits and the numbers which they wore last season.
4 Tommy Grant
15 Evan Tironese
15 Meirs Moore
17 Alex Rodriguez
19 Jesper Ohrvall
28 Lonnie Clary
30 Alec Dillon
94 Brady Wiffen

Anyone want to guess what numbers they will wear? 15, 28, 30, and 94 are available. 4, 17, and 19 are taken, and of course both Tironese and Moore can't wear the same number. Also, it is doubtful that 94 will be used.

I have only seen one of these boys play. The only comment i can make is that he is big and plays even bigger. I agree that 94 is unlikely to be used but i would love to see somehigh numbers on the ice. We could use a few more 52's for example.;)

We don't recruit enough players from NJ. ;)

Predictions: 3 for Grant, 5 for Moore, 9 for Ohrvall, 10 for Wiffen (though 94 would be cool!), 16 for Rodriguez, and Tironese, Clary and Dillon should retain their numbers if they want them.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Barring someone leaving early, we will have 3 goalies, 9 dmen, and 16 forwards next season. That's two more forwards than last year. (See recruit announcement http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2015/5/19/MHOCK_0519154944.aspx)

Since no one has commented on the discrepancey Ralph and I may have missed something this off-season. The recruit announcement said six defensemen will be returning. We had seven: Bradley, Bokenfohr, Hampton, Reno, Prapavessis, Wilson and Bell. Has anyone heard of a departure?

I missed that. :o There are a lot of possibilities, and it really could be anyone. E.g., Hampton and Bradley are already Seniors according to the directory; Bokenfohr could concentrate on golf; Reno might be permanently in the doghouse ...

Already being seniors in the directory is based upon number of credits; I'd suspect they are ending this semester as first-semester seniors based on credits and would take either a lighter course load and/or graduate work.
