Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

It currently looks like we are going to have five entering forwards this coming year -- Fornaris, Ohrvall, Rodriguez, Tironese, and Wiffen. We are losing three -- Laliberte, McGowen, and Neal. Thus we will go from 14 to 16. While 14 was too few, 16 is more than we usually have. Now it is possible that someone will delay arriving for a year, but I don't think so. Does anyone think that someone will leave, either for the pros or because of expected lack of playing time?

Fornaris, Ohrvall, Rodriguez, Tironese & Wiffen are all the 94/95ers on our list. To your question on departures beyond Laliberte, McGowen & Neal, I'm not sure, but is Without a Peer's Recruiting Summary on the horizon? I could come to appreciate the depth... ;)
How many defensemen will be have?

Thanks for update... watching action from Boston... and after two periods, it looks like Saturday will feature Mongo's Mentor vs. the Flying Eichels

Nice shout out in the first game from Barry Melrose on RPI's 85 Championship... nice video and comment from the Mullet.

For the sharp eyed: looks like BU has a small autism awareness tag on the point of the left shoulder of their sweaters tonight.

On paper it sure looks like we adding more possible offense up front than what we are losing. But that often is the case for us, on paper. As far as any early departures, i would guess it would have to be either for academic reasons or lack of playing time. Almost certainly no one looks to be turning pro. I think 16 forwards would be nice considering we always seem to have two or three hurt or sick. I would like to see 9 defensemen on the squad, but I think it looks more like 8 will be here. Personally i think it matters more what we can improve upon between face offs and special teams. Otherwise it is simply more of the same. High hopes dashed by inconsistent fundamental play. We have some great kids with talent levels that a lot of other teams would take any time. But when you watch the teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament, they just put it all together better and you do not see them making as many poor choices on the ice.

You said that you think we will have eight defensemen. We had nine last season and are losing two -- Curadi and Leonard. Moore is a '94 and has used up his Junior eligibility and thus must come. Supposedly Manley is also coming, but he is a '96 and could delay a year or even two.

Leaving for academic reasons was very common while we were at RPI, but now everyone gets A's. :D

Didn't either Bokenfohr or Hampton move to a utility role, where they can play forward or defence?

Manley is not ready. If he is coming, he will get little to no ice time.

Have you seen him play? Although you could certainly be correct and it has crossed my mind on many times that he would be on the bottom of our defensive depth chart, he does seem to have contributed as a defensive defenseman in Estevan this past year.

2 seasons ago. Not physical at all for a dman and really not much offensive skill. Unless he went through a great transformation in a so-so league, I'm thinking a year I the USHL would do him some good.

My point exactly John-I would like to see 9 on the squad but I am only counting on 8. I also think Manley is a year away.

Re: RPI 2015 Off Season Thread: Another Long Spring and Summer :(

Yes, but I think that was mostly due to lack of depth at forward.

Barring a host of injuries or illness, we will be much deeper at forward and moving up a defenseman much less likely. I have heard some good things about our incoming forwards but no hyperbole. Will just have to see how fast they can adjust. Certainly getting another Nanne and another Melanson would not be a bad thing. That is of course, assuming our coaches can find how to use them best. Sure wish someone coming in can win faceoffs.

I agree that a year in the USHL would be of help, but he has to make a team's roster.

The last game of the year was played last night... and right now it's sunny and 68 degrees. Winter's finally over. Let the ice melt, it's time to start over. On with the countdown, Ralph! :)
