back to hockey...

Did anyone see the posting from the slu hockey eqm on twitter? Kyle heaton's pads for the new season seem a bit garish to me. But aside from the color scheme (they are the slu colors after all, still that much brown and red in one spot says 'roadkill' to me), i didn't realize the slu crest features not one, but two open books... Which are opened to blank pages. Suitable for coloring? Any slu players majoring in fine arts this season?

tpiwwop :)

Meirs Moore was picked by Along the boards for its preseason ECAC All-Rookie team. I would have expected a forward if an RPI player was selected. http://alongtheboards.com/2015/09/2015-16-ecac-hockey-preseason-all-star-and-all-rookie-teams/

Meirs Moore, D, Rensselaer: The Engineers offense will need an infusion of life after averaging just 1.88 goals per game last season. Along with Brady Wiffen up front, RPI hopes Moore can spark the offense from the blue line after he put up 47 points in 58 games with the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL. Some size issues can come up with his 5-foot-9 frame, but his 181-pound build gives him some bulk that will help him adjust better to the NCAA game.

Well, I'm sure many of us are hoping and praying for Nick Baillen redux. Of course, by the time Nick arrived in Troy he had 4 strong years in the USHL and another at Bowling Green. Hopefully, Moore's struggles in the USHL were largely the result of playing for a bad team and his strong stats from the BCHL are indicative of a player that really found himself last year.

I'm at the time of year when (probably unwarranted) optimism takes over. I'm envisioning Tironese/Ohrvall as real playmakers and Wiffen/Moore as players that put it together last year and will put up strong freshman seasons. Last year's freshman forwards will build upon their strong starts and Jason K will be back to his freshman playing standards.

It's time for my 40th season of RPI hockey. Bring it on.......................

I am starting to feel that preseason optimism again. I think there is a lot of talent around this team and the bench is full of boys ready to show it. But my concerns are what is behind the bench and hoping that they have progressed even more than the boys do. I need to see that we can win more games because of good coaching of fundamentals and good coaching moves during games. We get that and the upside for this year could be a lot more than most think.

Me too, but it is being dampened by the knowledge of what has happened so often in recent years.

In honor of Evan Tironese and Alexa Gruschow, today is 22 September 2015. There are 11 days until RPI's next game.

Based on previous years, they'll be out some time next week.

Actually, there is a party at HFH tomorrow afternoon for all season ticket holders at which time SA will introduce the team (and I'm sure the captain and assistants will be announced) at that time. I will be there.

Once again RPI organizational/marketing dysfunction rears its head....I've been a season ticket holder for decades, donate funds in many forms and yet learn about this event just now on USCHO. I won't be there.
