RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

Sigh. Ralph, you're a math guy - why didn't you call on me this by now? I showed the pertinent NCAA by-law to Nick (my son, and another math guy) and he patiently (well, sort of patiently) pointed out to me that the range of acceptable core GPAs for partial qualifiers starts where the range for qualifiers leaves off, meaning Brady's core GPA is definitely high enough for him to be a qualifier. The problem has to be with his SAT or ACT scores and the score he apparently hasn't reached is very specifically 820.

There may still be things we don't understand - I still don't get where the waiver and appeals process fits in - but it seems there's no way the problem is with his core GPA. I stand corrected. (I knew I should have just kept my mouth shut, or sat on my hands, or whatever!) Aside: I hate Nick sometimes.

I am retired. :) Personally I believe the problem has to do with the difference between Canadian and US education.

<marquee>In honor of Seth Appert, John Burke and their assistants, today is 3 October 2015. There are no days until RPI's next game.</marquee>

This is based upon 3 October 2015 for the start of next season.

doesnt seem like a lot of chatter for the start of a season. nothing on lines who's playing who's sitting expectations . Is everyone resigned to another so so season? Team seems faster. Maybe dropped some dead wood from last year . Maybe last years fr defense are pretty good two way players. good incoming class maybe another Bailen ? sophs should improve. Goal tending ok or better. Looks like home ice to me I seem to remember Oates & Servinis suspensions were for playing in a game/league where some players were paid but the were unaware. I dont recall a grades issue but it has been a while.

After years of high hopes only to be crashed down, I can understand that. I wouldn't call it resigning to so-so so much as I would awaiting the entire team, including players and coaching staff, to show us on the ice a reason to be excited for this season. After taking my nephew to see RPI get shutout by an Atlantic team after losing the night before and only maybe two people on the ice showing they want to be out there and give 150% effort, that season was pretty much lost. Sure, you can't win them all, but you can at least show some effort.

If the exchange rate is 1 USD to 1.32 Canadian dollar, maybe that could explain the SAT score problem. Perhaps to score 820 US you need to get 1082 Canadian??

Time for a new thread? Please feel free to do so.

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

I really should stop about what made BW a partial qualifier and move on, but ...

It is my understanding that there are certain courses considered core courses and one must take a certain number and perform at some given level. I would think that one such course is American History. I doubt that Canadians take such a course, and I doubt that Canadian History would count. Granted that we have many players who are not from the US, and this hasn't happened before, but it is a thought.

It says Social Sciences; nothing specific about which social science. It's not like he's applying for citizenship here.

To be fair, anyone remember what happened the last time we lost the exhibition game against a Canadian school?

That school was even from New Brunswick too!

Except it wasn't in overtime; we got dominated. And there was no glass between section 33 and the penalty box, either. Had we been playing Clarkson, it might have been worse... ;)

Re: RPI 2015-16 Preseason Thread: To Dream the Impossible Dream

For anyone interested-The tickets for the Princeton hockey game are available as of 7 hours ago. The are on their website https://tickets.princeton.edu/athletics/Online/default.asp and simply click on sports and then men's hockey. Price is $10 each and a $2 handling fee plus shipping if you want them mailed. The selection for the first time in years is very good. Jenny and I have ours in Section 123 )by the penalty box and close to the red line. I suspect that section and 124 will go fast as they usually do. Do not allow the site to select the best tickets for you-it never does. Simply choose to select your own and pick a selection tht is still an orange dot. Good luck to to those who are coming.

Anyone take note of what that school we lost to in October 2010 did to No. 1 - ranked Boston College on Saturday?
