RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Tonight is about those young men in that room. People from the Capital Region pay to watch them play and to lay an egg like they did last night and against SLU is unacceptable. 95% of college hockey is about recruiting and Seth has done an excellent job especially in light of the constraints there are at Tute. From now until the end of season there are no excuses not to play with urgency. It's not about playing for the coach its about playing for each other and for those who pay hard earned $$$$$$ and the crest on the jersey.

Did Troyboy stop paying for your ticket?

Last year we were the only team that had home ice in round 2 that didn't advance to A.C..

This year we are the only team that finished 5th -8th with home ice that didn't advance. Again. Not to mention losing at home to Colgate in 2011 who was the 12th seed. Its torture. There is a pattern of failure developing here, we can't win big games .

It's OGC's MO. Unless you consider, as he does, regular season non-conference games against Union to be big games. Those we do win.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

How is someone who can't get their team to play 3 full periods supposed to get them to play 3 full games?

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

OGC has recruited great young student athelets with enough hockey talent to win big in the 1st period only to watch the opponents gain advantage as the game moves on. Putting 5 forwards on the PP and other tactics must be very discouraging. I don't even like 4 forwards on the PP. This loss may not be as hard or surprising as the Brown or Colgate losses but the combination points beyond blaming 1 locker room. Is RPI recruiting better than Union or Colgate? I will be ready to root for RPI at the next game.

This. I've been trying to make this point forever. The only time this should happen is with a 2-man advantage when the chances of a puck slipping out of the zone and causing a breakaway chance are a lot slimmer. I can't even remember how many SHGs we've given up this season because of this "tactic". Evidenced yet again by Haggerty tonight at the blue line; the puck came to him and he had no idea what to do, leading to a 2-on-0 chance for Dartmouth which they successfully scored on.

That being said, I'm with you and I won't ever turn my back on my team, no matter what coaching staff or other personnel are in place. I'm ready for next season. Go Red.

Union recruits better, and does so without athletic scholarships.

Especially when it was obvious the 5 forwards wasnt working, not only because it gave up a shorty but the forwards at the point dont seem to handle the puck as well or react to pressure when forechecked at the blue line, or in our own end when Dartmouth iced it. The fact that he puts no defensemen out there must annoy the dmen on the team. We scored a goal from the point tonight, and Bokenfohr has a bomb from the point but apparently style points are more important .

Bokenfohr is a forward on the PP. He didn't play half the year, and is a defenseman, but he's a forward on the PP.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the 5 seniors for there 4 years of service to the program and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!!

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Incentive money??? Are you really being serious???? Wow!

Believe it or not, it would be really easy to give extra money to incoming athletes in the form of a scholarship that isn't explicitly called "HOCKEY ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP". I never said I have hard proof of this, but it is entirely possible and I'm betting it happens in a lot of places.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, when dealing with financial aid schools, you CANNOT give extra money to incoming athletes. It is a violation of NCAA rules to treat athletes differently than the rest of the student body, let alone give them "extra money". That is all I am saying on this. Are all your wires connected??
