Im thinking Reno maybe...but I am not positive. Im just going by the videos that I have saw. Either way, Im going to lay low for a few days and let this storm pass and let all the keyboard coaches and administrators dole out the punishment they see fit.

Face doesn't look like Reno. I'm thinking maybe McGowan, if it is a student. Too tall for Fulton.

To be fair, they weren't coming off the bench to get into a fight - they were coming off the bench the way any team would at the end of a game they just won to mob their goaltender. The way the players coming off the bench kind of all run into each other at first as they encounter Bodie wrestling with Higgs is pretty much indicative of that.
.

My first reaction was the same...a celebration that you normally see. But I watched the video a few more times and can't be convinced that every player jumping off the bench was just skating past the Bodie-Higgs scrum over to Diebold to congratulate one another on the win. It seemed to me that every RPI player was looking to break up the fight or get involved with another one. In all of my years watching college hockey, I don't remember seeing anything like that.

Yes, Bodie's crosscheck was out of line. Yes, Bennett's actions were over the line. Both deserve punishment from the league, NCAA, or whoever. Fire Bennett? I don't know...I get the Woody Hayes comparison, but that seems like a knee-jerk reaction less than 24 hours after it happened.

I'll reiterate Dutchfan's comment (of course) about the recent history of incidents between these two teams, plus how the refs seemed to swallow their whistles in the 3rd period...which I never understand under any circumstance. Perhaps all of this reached the boiling point with Bennett, but only he would be able to tell you that.

All of that said, you guys played a good, physical game last night and were the better team for most of the game. I thought Diebold looked shaky in the first, but was much better in the latter two periods. He definitely played a big part in the win.

looks to me like it's the new (& very young) video co-ordinator....Sam something?

Say what you want about the scrum but gotta hand it to the line out on the ice for the last shift. Well over a minute facing 6 Union men. Impressive to say the least. Diebold had more than one clutch save after U pulled the tender.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

This was a kind of lack luster post holiday time for me-until seeing the stuff from last night. Good game played by our boys. I was not there so obviously have no real personal view of what happened at the end-but going by everything that was shown in the videos posted and everything posted by all the contributors on the threads-just very happy the way our boys all stick together as a team. Play as a team, defend each other as a team and yes, even fight as a team. Put me down right now as saying i want Curadi as a Captain next year. I liked that he did not just stand around and stood up for his teammates.

No comment on what penalties needed to be called on what players. When something like this happens at the end of a game usually all heck breaks loose and you have twelve things going on at one time. In my mind both teams are allowed to leave the bench after th final horn-but of course, not to join into a fight or start one.

The coaching issue is totally different. There were a bunch of coaches out there at the end-but only 2 head coaches and only one acted like he was on Ritalin or Biphetamine. I have no clue what recourse will be taken but Bennett has to have the most severe penalty possible. There is no excuse for anyone behaving like he did-but as a head coach everything is magnified and he is(as is every other coach) constatnly under the microsope. I would expect a lengthy suspension is warranted.

I would have probably have had more to contribute and a bit better perspective, but i was busy for most of the game sewing up a face involved in a pretty bad car accident down here in NJ and would not have known anything about the game if Jen wasn't giving me constant updates from the recovery area in the ER.

We could learn a lot by watching the film of those final 2 minutes. We do not seem to have the system down pat for pulling our goalie and keeping the puck in the offensive end. Perhaps the reason we get so many ENGs against us. Union has had far greater success pulling the goalie for the extra man and seems to fully understand how to keep the pressure on for that tying goal.

Just as an aside officials were watching replays immediately after to decide what punishments were warranted. I agree though it's difficult to determine who gets what in a scenario like this.

And from Unions PK as well. Theirs was on fire all night. Ours... We did the job but it could certainly use improvement.

What boiling point? He was fine when he was winning ten in a row. Now he is 10 and 1 and he couldn't take it? Gimme a break. The guy need lots of therapy. I have ben following hockey for over 50 years and never saw a coach lay a hand on an opposing coach. Lets get him the help he needs.

EHF, he should get the gate for this. When he took the swing at Milos that did it. Wonder if Union prez would tolerate a teacher taking a swing at a visiting student. Rick needs to get some help.

From Union's 2013-14 Staff Handbook: "Violence, threats, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior on our campus will not be tolerated. All reports of incidents will be taken seriously and will be dealt with appropriately. Such behavior can include oral or written statements, gestures, or expressions that communicate a direct or indirect threat of physical harm. Individuals who commit such acts may be removed from the premises and may be subject to disciplinary action, criminal penalties, or both."

It looks like Coach Bennett will need to meet with his supervisor to develop a "Performance Improvement Plan" to discuss "the problem," expectations for improved future behavior, and a timetable for future review. :D

of course there is OGC, Fat Mike, etc. I am proposing that from henceforth Rick Bennett be nicknamed Woody Hayes. Do I have a second?
