Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Little Kim, we have had the 37th toughest schedule of the 59 teams, that is in the lower half in case you can't do the math. Look at our scoring against the creampuffs - Scared Heart (6-0 & 7-1), Dartmouth (7-1), Princeton (5-2). Take away those and you can see that our offense ranking is skewed by several blow-out wins vs. bad teams. You can't just take the rankings at face value. Try doing some analysis next time before you quote your stats or execute your uncle.

For conversation sake RC would be correct in his comment regarding RPI's offensive standing. I am not a big accum stats person but if you take a minute and drill into the numbers RPI would still probably be a top 10 scoring team. Most hockey purest would agree that the magic number is scoring 3 goals in a game --- that tends to give you around a 65% (in that ball park) chance of winning points. So its not necessarily what your average is but how often you score 3 goals a game. In the 17 games RPI has played so far they have scored 3 goals in 13 of them or put another way they have given themselves a good chance to win points in 76% of the games they played. Boston College leads the nation in goals per game (they have 3 games where they scored 7 -9 -11 goals). In the 16 games they have played they have scored 3 or more goals in 10 of those games for 63%. From a technical standpoint RPI's offense is consistently more productive than BC's --- does not mean they are the better team.

The US U18 played Saturday night @ Utica College and lost 4-1 (http://www.usantdp.com/game/show/5429260). Just wondering if they'll be able to make it to Troy for Sunday's game. Some useless info; Drew Melanson's Dad went to Utica College. A friend of mine was his teammate on the baseball team while there......things like that remind me how old I'm getting.

Why is it snowing out or something? Just came in from snow blowing and would say we have at least 8in on the ground where I am a bit west of HFH.

Good thing that I did not pick this weekend to go to Troy as I originally considered. since SA said that Soffer would play at least part of this game, I hope that his family made it to Troy.

And Drew himself faced the other half of the USNDTP, the U17 team, on Saturday.

Clear and concise-I like this explanation.

You, getting old? Nah! You want to know old? Last week Jenny and I were out for dinner and stayed for drinks at the bar after. Some really nice looking young lady in her 30's came over and was hitting on me (not knowing I had my other half with me). The fact is, I did not realize that is what was happening at all. But mighty mite(my mini-Guinea) knew right away-and took the young lady into the ladies room and very quickly informed her that if she did not back off, that she(Jen) would remove her lungs out through her nose(her exact words). Me, not knowing when some hot babe was hitting on me? Now that is when you know you are getting old.

There was a message on RPISPORT that Kirk McDonald has been announced as the new (volunteer) Assistant Caoch.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Why are there several programs out there that would love to give you just what you want and take Appert off our hands and make him THEIR coach if what he's done in the last seven years is subpar? Answer me that one, hockey genius.

Because he knows how to win in leagues that aren't the EZAC. We're in this blasted league, so we need to play like it, and stop resigning ourselves to be lab rats where new coaches mess with us and then move on.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Unfortunately, that's a conversation you've already shut yourself out of, since you've shown time and time again that you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Starting a Fire Appert thread isn't a way to get actual discussion started, it's a way to get people who do have actual concerns about the team spending time defending against overwhelmingly incorrect nonsense instead of having rational discussions.

There won't be any rational discussions going on until you either shut your mouth and allow it to happen, or just plain leave. You've already poisoned the well of discussion far too much.

So long as you are here to bully other people, I am not leaving. The line is drawn here.

Surprised FDude has not started the Fire Bob Motzko thread for the St. Cloud posters.

Don't give him any ideas... :)
BTW, the HFH is now covered with something besides frozen drivel. About a foot of the white stuff. Let's hope they clear out the parking lots for the game today.

I couldn't give three ****s what St, Clooud does with their coach. Same with any other team that I do not support.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

Fun game to watch last night. Two evenly matched teams playing hard. Awesome job by Scottie D . First star in my book. Chris Bradley gets better every time I see him. Scoring goals is a problem but not insurmountable. They had a couple chances that were sooo close.
Their D zone coverage was hard nosed, disciplined and aggressive. Couldn't ask for a better effort. I am hoping the goals will come .
A couple weird things last night. The ref wrestling with Denver player to get him into the box. It was hysterical . Thought he should have given out a misconduct. Also Denver on a change at least 7 guys on the ice so Engineer player shoots the puck at the Denver bench. Penalty too many men on ice right? No call. I usually don't complain about refs but.....

The Denver player dropped his gloves. He should have been given 5+DQ for fighting. It's Chip MacDonald. He's now in the same apathetic "this-game-is-gonna-suck-for-refs" category as the Murphy dudes, Feola, Kotyra, and the like. At least with some refs, like Baker, you know that everything is going to get called.

In my own little act of first world anarchy, I have written the notes for the first line of Hail on the boards of the classroom (apparently usually used for Music students) I'm taking my final in today. That's what Yale gets for scheduling a final on a freaking Sunday.
