Also that evening, the 2011 Smart Kids Youth Achievement Award will be presented to Ryan Haggerty of Stamford, CT, honoring his accomplishments in overcoming a severe reading disability to succeed academically and as an athlete. Haggerty served as alternate captain with the Under-17 US National Developmental Hockey Team, winning the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in January last year. He will graduate from Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School after attending the Villa Maria School for children with LD and Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford, and will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a hockey scholarship next fall.

And, for whatever its worth, Zalewski is listed as a 2012-13. I suspect there might be some meaning to this, given that Heisenberg and the Portage site had Kasdorf as a '12 all along, meaning that teams probably had to submit an updated info form for the RBC. That suggests to me that, as of late April, there was no explicit change of plans, yet, with regard to Zalewski.

On Wednesday, the Wellington Dukes lost to the Vernon Vipers 5-2. Wellington has a 0-3 record and Vernon a 3-0 record in the round robin portion of the Royal Bank Cup. Curtis Leonard had no points or penalties. Mike Zalewski had hooking, slashing, holding opponent's stick, and tripping penalties.

I don't know what the tiebreakers are, but the standings are
Vernon 3-0
Camrose 3-1
Pembroke 1-2
Portage 1-2
Wellington 0-3

So, couldn't Pembroke be eliminated?

So, couldn't Pembroke be eliminated?

Pembroke beat Wellington, and Portage beat Pembroke. Should Wellington beat Portage, I would assume it would come down to goals, and Kasdorf would have to be a sieve for Pembroke to be eliminated.

In the three games between them, these are the goals for and against which is probably the first tie breaker.

Portage 8 8
Wellington 8 8
Pembroke 7 7

Is the next tie breaker goal differentail in all games or goals-for in the games between the teams in question? I might as well wait until the schedule is updated.

The first tie-breaker was goals for, plus goals against, divided by goals for (GF GA/GF), with the lower number taking the higher seed. But all three teams finished with even, meaning the next tie-breaker was GF GA/GF in all four games, which left the Lumber Kings (11 14/11=2.27) ahead of the Dukes (12 16/12=2.33) and Terriers (12 17/12=2.42).

So Jason Kasdorf's season is over. I'll modify the earlier message.

Vernon plays Pembroke at 8PM ET, while Camrose plays Wellington at 4PM ET, both on Saturday. It is still possible to see a championship in which both teams involve an RPI recruit.
