RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

I don't expect that we will end up with 8 new forwards. 6 or 7 seems more likely. I suspect that either Pirri or D'Amigo was expected to leave, and that accounts for the comparatively late signing of Rogic. I think that Malchuk will be back, but that is a gut feeling -- not based on any knowledge. In any case, I would be surprised if SA wasn't fully aware of Malchuk's intentions, and we won't be shorthanded if he leaves. There is still room for the Spink twins, but I the chances went down a bit.

I think that we will sign another d-man. We have 5 expected to return and Curadi makes 6. I think that Bradley won't arrive until 2012. Thus we need 1 and perhaps 2 more.

The biggest question is what York's intentions are.
I was thinking Rogic coming in had more to do with JL deferring another year then having Pirri or JDA leave early but im sure it was a combination of both. As of right now we have 14 forwards for next year maybe 15 if Malchuk returns, Id be comfortable with 16 so that doesnt leave much more room. As for the D, Id like to see 2 more added maybe one big defensive d-man and one smaller offensive puck moving d-man.

We traditionally had 15 forwards, and SA commented that wasn't enough for competition. It then went up to 18. I thought that was too many, but it isn't clear if SA really wanted 18. I suspect that he prefers 16 or 17.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

BTW, McGowan was a teammate of Brandon Pirri two years ago in Georgetown. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0052262009.html
McGowan actually wasnt the ex Georgetown/Pirri connection that I was thinking RPI would land. Ever since I saw Monty scouting one of the Georgetown games during a OJHL Showcase last season in Oakville, Ive been keeping an eye on F-Aaron Pearce who is playing in Waterloo(USHL) this season, currently on IR.

He prefers 18

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Well then it looks like we need 3 or 4 more depending upon what Malchuk will do.

Do you know how many defensemen does he prefer?

No...I just recall him mentioning the overall # of 18. He used the word competition more than once in that same conversation; the boys are pushed from below and NO ONE's job is safe. A true meritocracy. I would imagine 7 D to address the unexpected. But I'm no good at hockey capacity planning.

I would think 8 would be good. I'm just glad that this year Coach's job of picking 6 out of 7 is difficult.

This is the absolute truth that no player's job is safe. I specifically remember my senior year that Coach scratched a healthy alternate captain. If that isn't indication enough, I don't know what is.

Assuming 18 players...9 forwards (3 lines) and 2 goalies, you have 7 left. That gives you 3 lines of D partners with a 7th D man...that's how I see it but God knows I'm more wrong than right. And that's skaters. There are 23 carried on the roster so it's a fluid situation with potential for significant turnover at the bottom of the line up.

I am getting confused now. :) Teams usually dress 4 lines of forwards (for a total of 12) and 6 defensemen, although once this year we dressed 11 forwards and 7 dmen. The NCAA rule is that 18 skaters can be dressed. One can dress either 2 or 3 goalies. Because of the ECAC rule limiting the number of players who can travel for league games (I keep forgetting that number), RPI usually doesn't take their third goalie along on road trips.

Anyway, my earlier question was not about how many forwards SA intends to dress, it was how many would be on the roster. Last year we had 18 on the roster, but Burgdoerfer was ineligible making it really 17. At some point Brutlag became a forward, but Morissette left the team, so we still had 17 at the end of the season. This year there are 16.

I don't think you're confused, Ralph. I think another person was confused when, while we were saying 18 forwards, it was being interpreted as 18 total players (forwards, defensemen, and goaltenders combined).

I agree. I know that Vines was out recruiting during the week/weekend of the LP Face-Off game...so hopefully we'll see some visits/commitments soon.

I would think that Saturday might be a good time to have recruits visit. Of course, it depends a lot on the recruits' own schedules.

On Monday, Team Canada East lost to USA 6-1. The Spink brothers had no points or penalties. http://usahockey.com/Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=TU_04_01_05&id=294828

On Tuesday, TCE defeated Sweden 6-2 on Tuesday. Tylor Spink had a goal and an assist. http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.ph...ason_id/138493/game_id/146212/ss_id/68000.htm

RH's (and mine) hopeful RPI target :D d-man Brennan Serville has been mentioned as one of 5 TCE Players to Watch. "...responsible in own end ... plays positional hockey ... good vision ... uses size to his advantage ... keeps things simple and gets the job done ... makes smart decisions when pressured ... always has head up, looking for pass ... defensive defenceman..." http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php/ci_id/149785/la_id/1.htm

Yes. Being the other person who bollixed up the conversation, I will defer here...I did interpret 18 players. I'll shut up now:o

She's the mom of a defenseman, and you expect her to know how many forwards play on a given night? Are you crazy!? :p
