from Chris Heisenberg:

We have a new recruit.

Mark McGowan, LW, Oakville 6'2 195 May 8, 1990

That name sounds strangely familiar. :D

New recruit means more work for Ralph :) Welcome to the madness that is RPI hockey Mark. Hope you stay longer than your former teammate.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

I can only imagine what you go thru...fun tho...

Pfft, I've heard every insult in the past 9 years. Not a single one is new. Although one time I tucked it inside a cap, and 6 people thought I got a haircut.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Oh yeah...we know which battles to fight...this is NOT one of them...can I get a photo of you with the long hair and beads?;)

I was always on the edge and never looked the part of the typical doctor. Yes we have pictures and I am sure Jenny will show them to you when we meet up.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Saw this in the Wisconsin thread:

...John Keeney was a kid I thought we might look at from Omaha, he's having a great season but we aren't going in that direction. He looks like an RPI lean with CC and Quinnipiac in the picture.

Both,Thanks for the tip.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Chris Heisenberg has listed Matt Lorito of the Villanova Knights (OJHL) as committing to RPI on his Ontario page. On both his front page and the Colleges page, he lists Lorito as a Brown recruit. I suspect that Brown is correct, but I'll write to CH to confirm.

Hey ralph, Did you get my email regarding this kid?

Great news..plenty of beef with a scoring touch...what's not to like? Great addition. Assuming Mark was one of the recruits reportedly on campus recently, who was the other kid? :D

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

He's already done this before (his high school hockey pictures were horrible because of a 7" fro!!!) and he's growing it out in DBQ. I know I gotta' pick my battles but it makes small children think Ronald McDonald has gone psycho... REALLY unattractive during the National Anthem...
Come on Ma....We love thr FRO on da Bro !!!!!!!!!

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Just MHO but i think you kind of have to go with it. He will decide what looks best for him when he finds out what the ladies like.(and that most definitely does not include his mother) As a guy I will grow as much hair as i can while i still could. With age we learn that shorter hair is just so much easier to care for. Jenny likes me with my hair long but once it turned silver I wanted it shorter. If I was Luke's age-my hair would be like I had it back in the 70's-in a pony tail with beads in it.
Chick's Dig Guy's w/Fro's !!!!!!!

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

So with this addition does this lower our chances of maybe landing the Spink brothers? I know nothing has been officially said about them being interested in RPI.

We have to replace 8 forwards and 2 defensemen (I'm counting Beauregard, Pirri, and D'Amigo). Right now, we're at 4 forwards and 1 defenseman for recruits. You can probably take one forward off because we did get Greg Burgdörfer as a sophomore, but may want to leave it on in case Joel Malchuk leaves a year early. We certainly have room for them, but I would feel a little more comfortable seeing at least one more D-man on Heisenberg's list.

I don't expect that we will end up with 8 new forwards. 6 or 7 seems more likely. I suspect that either Pirri or D'Amigo was expected to leave, and that accounts for the comparatively late signing of Rogic. I think that Malchuk will be back, but that is a gut feeling -- not based on any knowledge. In any case, I would be surprised if SA wasn't fully aware of Malchuk's intentions, and we won't be shorthanded if he leaves. There is still room for the Spink twins, but I the chances went down a bit.

I think that we will sign another d-man. We have 5 expected to return and Curadi makes 6. I think that Bradley won't arrive until 2012. Thus we need 1 and perhaps 2 more.

The biggest question is what York's intentions are.

I definitely agree that we won't have 8 forwards; I was merely putting down a maximum based upon the numbers we had last year (obviously under the assumption that we are short-handed this year, but given the walk-ons that are on the practice squad, that isn't all that likely). I'm sure Joel has made his intentions known to Coach; you also have to figure that it may be a good idea to stick around another year and get the MBA.

Who knows what York will choose to do; I'm not aware of Columbus's goaltender situation, perhaps GLM can shed a little bit of light on that front. Even if he does leave, Merriam is a very capable goaltender, and although he plays the puck a lot (remember, Allen did that a lot as well his freshman year, scared the dickens out of me at the Colgate game). Obviously the backup situation would be a little scary, but Merriam would still do well for us.

Re: RPI 2011 Recruit Thread Pt. II

Why am I suddenly picturing Willie Nelson with a medical degree... :D

It was just the times I guess-you sort of had to be there to understand. Jenny and I made for quite the wild couple. No one would ever guess now-we have become the poster children for the conservative look.
