RPI 2011-12 season

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Actually I do know her name but I'm always reluctant to disclose until I see some evidence that the player herself is ready to announce (so once I have heard about the commitment I monitor her team's website and other sources for an announcment). I have just heard of a third commitment, another defenceman, this time from a U.S. prep school, and am checking to see if the name has been disclosed somewhere else. I think they are looking for 7 players for 2012-13, so its great to see that they are off to a fast start.

I understand.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Nice to see that Alicia Harrison has been named Captain for the coming season. The team normally announces the captain at the wind-up of the previous season so I have been waiting for this. Harrison is a forward who plays equally well at both ends of the rink: she has been recognized as a top defensive forward but also contributes more than her share of points. Good role model for what this team will need to do to succeed this year: with no big stars ( the US and Cdn national and U-18 calibre players) RPI will need to win with discipline, hard work and good coaching... the same formula that has worked for them for years.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

With 2 freshman goalies to start the season, I'm not surprised. Hopefully, they'll surprise a lot of people and provide some help ala Sonja.

Shannon Ramelot is also returning as a Junior although she didn't see much icetime in the past.

Three major injuries to veteran players is quite a blow entering the season. I'm particularly worried about Jakubowski - to be still fighting concussion effects this long is not a good sign. Best wishes to all of the ladies for complete recoveries.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Found this on the USCHO about Allysen Weidner (2010). Nice bio about one of our own. Congrats!

Weidner Hired As Assistant Coach
9/26/2011 1:30:00 PM

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Niagara women's hockey head coach Josh Sciba has announced the hiring of Allysen Weidner as an assistant coach for the Purple Eagle women's hockey team.

"We are excited to have Allysen coming to us from Hamilton College," Sciba said. "She's a young coach with a great passion for the game. We'll look for her to inject that passion and work ethic into our team. With her skill set, knowledge and recruiting background, she will help our players become better on and off the ice."

Weidner will be in charge of team travel, while assisting in recruiting, academics, strength & conditioning, community service and video breakdowns.

Weidner spent the 2010-11 season with NCAA Division III Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. as an assistant coach, after a four-year career with the RPI Engineers. While at RPI, the Wichita, Kansas native scored 30 goals, 35 assists and 65 points in 141 games.

The Purple Eagles open the 2011-12 season at Dwyer Arena on Friday Sept. 30 versus the University of New Hampshire at 7 p.m.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Heard the girls tied tonight. Any comments?

I was only able to watch parts of the UConn webcast which was pretty poor quality, but it looked to me like a pretty fast-paced game. Tayor Horton had 2 goals on 2 shots, both unassisted and Alisa Harrison had a nice breakaway goal while RPI was shorthanded. She was being harrassed by the UConn player chasing her but still got the shot off and put it in.

RPI offense looked pretty solid but the defense and goaltending is still a little shaky. 3 goals allowed by Piper on 17 shots, so not a great night in that regard. RPI outshot UConn 24-17 though so if they can clamp down a bit in the defensive zone I think they have a good shot this afternoon.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

The game is currently a scoreless tie early in the 2nd period. Seems to be another fast-paced game, as the first period only took a total of 25 minutes to play. RPI leading in shots on goal, and no penalties so far today.

RPI wins 1-0 on a goal by Alisa Harrison with 9 seconds left in regulation. :)

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

If the RPI men go to the HEA does anyone know if the women would do the same?

Don't know, but I would hope not. I much prefer the ECAC's scheduling with the travel partner system that allows teams to play each other at two different points in the season rather than twice in two days.

Great to see the team come away from UConn with 3 points this weekend.

I haven't seen any reports on the injuries, but based on the rosters from last weekend I can see that it must be Padmore, Jakubowski and Daniels. Does anyone have any information on the nature/duration of the injuries or a link to any report on them?
