RPI 2011-12 season

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

The schedule has been released, so it's probably a good time to start a new thread. http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2011/6/1/WICE_0601115656.aspx

OC games are 2 @ UConn, 2 @ UVM, 2 @ Niagara, 2 vs. RMU, 2 vs. UW, 2 vs. Syracuse. There is also an exhibition game vs. the Toronto Aeros.

Hmmm.... at Niagara while the men are in Michigan... too bad the Cornell/Colgate weekend is ONCE AGAIN during Freakout...

Do any CHA lurkers know if the Niagara women's games are free?

Let me get this right. You're willing to drive out to Niagara to watch the team, which is better than 300 miles round trip, plus Thruway tolls, and you're hung up on whether they charge a few bucks for a ticket?

Did you ever think that there were other factors involved? Like perhaps the possibility of me not going to this series alone?

Nice to see they have Wisconsin coming in to the HFH mid-season. The Badgers will, no doubt, be cruising along at or near the top of the polls as usual and due for a big upset :D. Engineers were no contest in Wisconsin last year, but that was at the start of the season so it doesn't count ;). I would hope that there would be a good sized crowd for those games if the Engineers can do some things early in the season to generate fan interest.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Interesting that the recruit announcement didn't contain the usual paragraph about each recruit stating how great they are.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Are they going to make enough money to pay someone to collect the admission fee?

Good question. I've been to a few women's games at HFH while visiting in the area and there were probably no more than 200 or so in attendance. Take away the students and families of team members and I'm not sure that many would have to pay. In fact, most of the crowd across the way seemed to be parents of the visiting team. Do they have to pay?

For comparison, down in this neck of the woods Quinnipiac charges admission for women's games ($4 IIRC) while Yale and Sacred Heart do not.

Re: RPI 2011-12 season

Apparently we now have two commitments for 2012-13: the second is a defenceman from Ontario's PWHL, going into Engineering at RPI. I don't remember seeing two commitments this early before.

A large class is graduating in 2012.

I assume that you don't have her name.

Actually I do know her name but I'm always reluctant to disclose until I see some evidence that the player herself is ready to announce (so once I have heard about the commitment I monitor her team's website and other sources for an announcment). I have just heard of a third commitment, another defenceman, this time from a U.S. prep school, and am checking to see if the name has been disclosed somewhere else. I think they are looking for 7 players for 2012-13, so its great to see that they are off to a fast start.
