Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board
Because Union would move to scholarship based and would kill it on the recruiting side. Union is a program on the rise, RPI is not. They are still middle of the pack with zero tournament success and ECAC tournament success. Could go as far as saying regular season and ECAC tournament biggest flops over past 2 seasons. No one else has done relatively worse in ECAC tournament. They might take off this year but have not yet.
Holy Cross just started offering scholarships and did a great job with them, very nice run in playoffs last year making it to final 4 in Rochester. Close and they go after different type of students than what other local Hockey East schools do. If anything, they might grab a few kids bound for Ivy schools
Both would be better fits.
Your first sentence makes no sense grammatically and even if I throw of all the words into an hat, I can't figure it out, so I will ignore it.
I understand the second sentence which repeats something which you wrote earlier. I agree that Union has been improving the last couple of years. I don't expect it to continue long term. Time will tell who is correct.
RPI did finish in the middle of the pack and has had no recent ECAC or NCAA tournament success. I do, however, think that they are slowly improving by building a firm foundation in all four classes. They do not have one great class which when it graduates means they have to start over. SA has spread the wealth. There was a hiccup in SA's plans when JD'A and BP left a year ago, but the fact that the team made the NCAA tournament shows that the team is still moving forward. (Yes, we all would have at least liked to see us score a goal.)
I doubt that HC has received even a slight bit of interest by the HE management. They have done well with their resources and probably will continue to do so, but they have no value added to the league.
Besides for RPI, the only school that deserves to be considered is QU, and as has been said here, they don't have the history that RPI has and the long-term relationship with the HEA schools.
