Smith is indeed a sniper...thankfully for the rest of the league, this is his swansong season. With a home and home with Cornell this weekend, he may need a few more weeks to hit 30.

Smith is a sniper?

Oh, you don't mean Justin, do you? ;)

Then again, perhaps he could be.

Apologies if this was already posted, but I'm not going back through the old thread to find out. RPI 1984-1985 has been posted on FightingSioux23's list of greatest college hockey teams of all time at #8!

Given the scoring system that FS23 described, I am more than a little disappointed that they did not finish higher on his list. They won both the conference regular season and conference tournament, there was an All-American on the team, four of the six all-tournament team was RPI players, they won three regular-season games against NCAA tournament teams....I suppose if I were to ask him FS23 would say that the conference wasn't particularly strong that year (despite placing two teams in an eight-team field) and so that hurt them.

Just took a walk up to the plaza, and the rink is closed, for obvious reasons. Looks pretty wet. Not sure how this will affect tomorrows skate, for those heading down.

Expected that team to be placed even higher. Perhaps top 4. Not sure what part of that season was not enough to get them the higher placing. Perhaps they settled for a tie in the second night of the total goals series with LSSU. RPI had dominated the night before and did not need a win the second night. Clearly they outplayed Lake Superior but sat back once they had the series locked up. I have always felt that the previous year's 83-84 team was as good (but just lacked a little of the confidence and polish of the 85 team). I am forever hopeful that we have one more team like that at RPI (maybe it happens once every 31 years?)

Me too, but you and I are biased.

I was at both LSSU games in 85. We had a 4 goal cushion after the first night-I spoke to Coach Adessa after the second game and asked him about it and simply said he would have loved to win the second night-but was not willing to risk any injuries once it appeared we were going to go to Detroit. In retrospect, if we did indeed win then our unbeaten streak would have continued instead as a winning streak and would not have ended until into the next year. There is no way to effectively compare the best team sof all time. the game has constantly evolved. I like to believe that in it's era, and perhaps for many years both before and after it's time, the 84-85 RPI team could compare favorably against any college team. This is not to demean the ratings that others feel other great teams should have. But i have watched college hockey for a long time and I can only think of 3 or 4 teams that I would consider in the same breath.

In light of the warm weather, I would suggest that if you planned on going that you call ahead to see if it still going ahead as schedule.

Now that would be the logical thing to do.
