In 2008 a small band was mustered, including "that girl on the bass drum". ;) Of course, different people have different levels of motivation and drive to make those things happen.

Getting a band for that weekend will be somewhat difficult, given that it is on break. I would absolutely love to get a band together, but I'm not even entirely sure I'll be back in Troy for the game (flights from St. Louis aren't cheap and I'd be alone in Troy for weeks afterward). We are in the process of attempting to put a small band together for the weekend as the women will be at home as well, but I can't promise anything. Sorry if we make you sad, Ralph.

I just kinda liked it when players like Red B and Mel would come to Troy for a weekend.
I can’t believe that people are glad that the Tournament is gone.
First time I heard that. I guess when a team starts to struggle fans get apathetic
My interest has always been trying to bring in teams from the west, but going hockey east and then bringing in a traditional rival or two from ECAC would be great.

Part of a sports tradition is the enjoyment of seeing those who you don't see outside of that venue. I would have loved to experience the RPI Holiday tourney tradition and think that the team has the potential in coming years to re-ignite passion for, if not this tradition, other traditions that folks will be drawn to...

...oh, and by the way, you don't need empirical evidence to voice an opinion;)

Agree. Problem is, he was stating something as fact in an attempt to bolster said opinion, without offering any evidence.

You do have to back up claims of fact around here.

Having been to 37 of the Tournaments we will miss it terribly. I understand fully the economic reasons that have gone into the decision to scrap it-but I find it hard to believe that some sort of solution could not have been offerred. Other tournaments came along and took a lot of the luster away from ours-it just seems like we decided to give in to this competition and fold instead of finding a way to compete for talented teams. Especially with the season we are having-a home tournament perhaps could have been a little tonic to get things going on a better track. Just sayin'.....

FWIW - I used to love the Tourney between Christmas and New Year as a kid. Made sure I went to both games too. Have always been an RPI fan, but used to love watching the other teams warm up. I recall 7ht or 8th grade ('78-'79 ?) being there and watching the guys from the Air Force Academy walk out for warm ups and being massively impressed by them, their composure, their presence. Then again, the world was a bit of a different place and making that kind of commitment wasnt something to take lightly. While I only recived an alternate nomination and never made it to the Academy, it impacted me deeply and does to this day. I for one, hope that we someday get to a place where the Christmas tourney again makes sense and that gets brought back.

You wanna' talk about tradition...including a service academy in a tournament is a good idea...they bring theirs with them and add to the one in which they participate (I had a nomination to West Point but it was early on in the female attendance era -'78 - and my newly widowed mother would have none of it...had my Dad, the USMC Lt. Col. fighter pilot made it, he might have given the nod). West Point (Jim Knowlton might know a few folks there to grease the skids :cool:) would be a draw for additional Hudson Valley interest...
