Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

Ming was actually one of the players that stood out to me when I saw the Colts play Hawkesbury back in September. Seemed to be a real smooth skater with a bit of a physical edge to his game. During the game he really layed out a couple of Hawkesbury players, one happened right in front of me and I still remember the look on the face of the Hawks player as he got up from the ice. :D

That's good to hear about Ming.

I agree with Wicked that it if JL comes to Troy it increases our chances of getting Ming, probably for 2011.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

I have a feeling tha there is a good chance that some prospective recruits might show up today since not may teams play on Wednesday.

The first of the two CJHL Prospect games is today; the second tomorrow.

Are you saying you want me to go over the HFH for practice? :p

This is one thing that makes me just a little nervous, especially after reading what was said on the season thread about JL during the RPI game Saturday. That along with the fact that we have recruited 2 more extra forwards then what is leaving next year. Hopefully that person was just blowing smoke and JL will indeed be an Engineer next year.

Don't let # of forwards coming in fool you, Appert wants competition on every line..and he fully intends to have more bodies than spots. Plus, he needs insurance against the ever-present possibility that Chicago or Toronto will come looking for Pirri and D'Amigo before they are handed diplomas.

As RB said before, we've heard all of the JL scuttlebutt before and more, including emphatic proclamations that JL was definitely, absolutely headed for the MJ's this fall. Bottom line for me is if JL was headed there, he'd already be there...he wouldn't be biding his time skating circles around overmatched defenders in the CJHL. :D

Don't get me wrong, I won't be convinced until JL gets fitted for his RPI practice jersey, but it is important to take whatever you hear from "insiders" or parents in the stands with several piles of salt. For all we know, the kid belonging to that father is a goalie who gets lit up daily by JL in practice. :p

Wow ! I hope that everyone realizes that I want this kid in Troy as much and as fast as anyone, and that I just wanted to pass along some unsolicited information. As I had said in my post, I am choosing not to believe anything I hear to the contrary. I absolutely agree with what WS says about him. Sorry to all if I kicked the hornets nest here, but thought important to pass on what I had heard.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruit Thread: Give Me Laliberté or Give Me Death!

I went back and pulled some quotes from an interview with JL that was in the Colts game program for the game I attended:

Laliberte plays a game that relies on speed, so having line mates who compliment that style is an added bonus. "Yeah, Shane Avery and Eric Ming are great to play with," says Laliberte. "Avery is a speedy guy, he has a good shot and he can put the puck in the net. Ming is a young kid, but he is learning every day and he knows how to move the puck and he creates space out there.

Laliberte earned a full scholarship to RPI as a 17 year old with the Hawkesbury Hawks, but chose to continue playing in the CJHL to continue his development. "I was supposed to go last year, but I decided to put it off a year so that I could be ready off the ice for that type of hockey and the environment."

Laliberte loves the game, and if he had his way he would play forever. He plans to pursue an educational path that will allow him to be a gym teacher or something similar that will keep him involved in sports.
Since JL was the one that decided to put off going to RPI for a year to better prepare himself for the college environment, I think that it bodes well for RPI.

No need to apologize Senna ! Sorry if I was over the top in my reply. I've just grown weary of the JL rumor mill.

I guess for me it boils down to trusting Appert and Montgomery in how they communicate with their recruits. They've been through the same and more with Pirri and D'Amigo. I know they talk often with all of the recruits and they certainly have a good feel for JL and his intentions for 2010. Time will tell I guess..its the waiting that stinks!

It could have been JL's decision after his arm was twisted.

Last year and earlier years, I several times filled up an entire page (20 consecutive posts) mainly with my game updates, and no one else posted inbetween. It's nice that there is apparent increased interest among the RPI fans about the recruits this year.

Yes.:p Apologies for stealing GLM's idea of recreating past scenarios:

"...Did we say 2009 Jake?....no no, no we meant 2010, you see we've got these guys, Jerry and Brandon.....and they're pretty solid offensively." :D

If anyone wants to listen to the audio of the first CJHL Prospects game (Quinn, Higgs), it starts at 1 pm CST (2 pm EST). The link is on this page http://www.mjhlhockey.ca/news_item.aspx?news_id=1643. Sorry that I didn't look earlier today. It wasn't up when I looked last week. I'll only be able to catch the first period or so.

Team West recorded an 8-1 victory over Team East at the 2009 CJHL Top Prospects Game in Winkler, Manitoba on Tuesday afternoon. The CJHL Prospects Teams will play a two-game total goal series with the second game taking place on Wednesday at 7:30PM.

The player of the game for Team West was Brendan O'Donnell of the Winnipeg South Blues (MJHL). OJAHL Forward Colin Campbell of the Vaughan Vipers was awarded the Player of the Game for Team East

I listened to the first 2 periods, and West was leading 5-0. Nick Quinn had a boarding penalty near the end of the 2nd period that the announcers thought should have been called hitting the opponent's head into the boards or something like that. If a certain UNH recruit from Westside (BCHL) gets into a tussle with him next year, you'll know why. :D Brock Higgs was playing center, and his forechecking was commented on twice.
