Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I missed last night's tilt  but from all accounts sounds like we brought it. I'm encouraged that Higgs is willing to get the ugly goals. I think Tinordi will be that kinda of player too. We have missed that the last few years. Bruts will help in that dept. also. Big win for the Cherry and White last night. I am starting to feel good about things.

"They were just a hungrier hockey team". Coach Wilson's comment about RPI last night. Good to hear.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I may or may not have said this before, but I feel Brock Higgs is going to be a major player in our program the next 4 years. He isnt afraid to get into the corners and dig for pucks, has good speed, and his second goal tonight was a nice skill move. Maybe it is just me but Mike Bergin seemed a little bit off tonight and at other parts of the season so far. York attacking the goal with his stick when it was off during the 1st period was funny to see. I mean he wasnt just tapping it to let the refs know it was off, he was full out hitting it as hard as he could. Overall, the first two periods they looked great, the 3rd period seemed that the team lost a step. Coach mentioned this in the articles. Lets get a W tonight vs. Niagara and head into next weekends Halloween Faceoff with good ol' Uncle Mo on our side.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Last night's game was very nice to see...we were extremely dominating the first 40 minutes but got complacent in the third, per Appert's own assessment. The freshmen really stood out for me last night.

Tinordi had a couple of really huge hits, one right after he knew he was already called for a penalty (xcheck maybe?)...plays with a chip on his shoulder and isn't afraid to throw his weight around. He will be a force this year.

Rogic has got flat out speed, no doubt about that. I brought a couple of RPI Hockey first timers with me to the game last night and they noticed him right away. Hopefully he can crack the lineup on a consistent basis, because he will become a game changer with his speed alone.

I know this class wasn't ranked by INCH, but they showed a ton of potential last night (congrats to Higgs as well)...very exciting group.

Did anyone catch the RIT players doing calisthenics drills after the game per the USCHO recap?

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Insert obligatory post about polls being meaningless here.

They will be meaningless for quite a few weeks yet-I don't pay them any attention until after about 20 games played. No one knows how good the team you just played is until they also have played more games so as you say-it is all worthless for now. I just am hoping we can crack the top 15 around the beginning of March.

This recruit class has been vastly under rated. Higgs and Rogic are players and Tinordi will be a major force given sufficient ice time. The defensive recruits are already showing that they can step in and play fairly quickly. It all goes to show that these ratings are just someone's opinion and like *****holes, everyone has one. This team is already good-and has the chance to develop into a team that is very good. I had thought they were capable of 21 wins(before the first game started) I am about ready to up that estimate a couple of wins. It will be a lot of fun to be a fan of RPI this year and from what is coming for next year, for years to come.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

For those wondering about the goalie situation: Check last night's post-game interview with Appert. His comment about Merriam... I'm paraphrasing with "He's been working hard, and I want to get him in, just not sure when it's going to happen. I haven't made a decision about who's starting yet" comes from about 4:00 to 4:40.

Read into it as you wish.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

For the football fans-RPI at St Lawrence just started-it is virtually a must game for us if we have any aspirations of post season play at all. WRPI carrying the game-but honestly I miss having the familiar voice of Kurt Stutt doing the game. He can often make even the most boring of games seem exciting. Let's Go Red!!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

OK. Let's not be recognized in the Top 20. I love this thread but sometimes scratch my head with the nitpicking. Have a nice day.
AspyDad,

I'm not trying to nitpick. I'm just bringing up the point that the polls mean zilch. Appert doesn't care. The players don't care. The selection committee doesn't care. It's only a point of recognition for overzealous fans and some recruits. But, there are other points of interest for recruits, such as the playing style of the team, the coach's ability to develop players for the NHL, and much much more. If you want to be happy about being placed in the top 20, then go for it. I'm not going to stop you. Personally, I'll say "Whoop-dee-do" and continue on with my life.

Most of the game RPI moved the ball-they passed pretty well and ran pretty well-but just could not score much. Every time they came close they bogged down. With a few minutes left it is SLU 14 and RPI 3

Edit: It is now a final SLU 14 RPI 3 as we fall to 3-3 on the year and 1-2 in the Liberty League. Not one of our better starts to a season. This is not a bad RPI team-just has some offensive trouble putting the ball in the end zone and converting some 3rd and 4th down plays. Quarterback is a horse-but young and will hopefully be leading this team well for 2 more years.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

you guys looked great last night, totally outplaying us. what stood out especially to me was how physical you were. it is not that often that we get out-hit, and i thought our players were looking hesitant toward the end because of it. best of luck the rest of the season.
