Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

(yawn) Just waking up from summer hibernation here. I'll get back into the swing more eventually, but thought you guys might be interested in this article from the BCHL Alberni Bulldogs website that mentions Bryan Vines being hired as Shawn Kurulak's replacement.
http://www.albernivalleybulldogs.ca/leagues/newsletter.cfm?clientid=1009&leagueid=1577&page=37842

Noteworthy quote:
"'Bryan is an honest, classy individual, not to mention a great hockey coach. It is difficult to attain a job in the NCAA Division I level. Bryan had to accept this job to further his coaching career. I think it speaks volumes about the sort of people that we want to have a part of program here in Alberni. Bryan is very deserving of the opportunity' comments GM/Head Coach and RPI grad Nolan Graham."

In honor of Ashley Gaylord, today is 10 September 2009. There are 23 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 3 October for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

On the RPI athletics website, it's easy to find an aerial view of the new stadium, showing a field with markings for both football and soccer.

The football team's schedule says its home games will be played at ECAV. The women's and men's soccer teams' schedules say their home games will be played at Renwyck Field.

In previous years, soccer was played on the existing field immediately north of the Field House, which was named Harkness Field in honor of the coach who brought RPI so much success on the ice and the lacrosse field.

Has Harkness Field been renamed Renwyck Field? Or are the soccer teams playing in the new stadium, on the same field where the football team will play, and have simply decided on a name for it sooner than the football team has? And if the soccer teams are playing in the new stadium, what will Harkness Field be used for?

Renwyck field is the field next to Harkness, but below it. It's still turf and there are dedicated lights for it.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

Just for style I'm probably going to keep referring to the football stadium as "Upper Renwyck." Maybe upgrade it from Upper Renwyck Field to Upper Renwyck Stadium.

Shouldn't we start seeing predictions for the ECAC from the coaches/media soon? It seems that we had those predictions by early September in the past.

There should be something soon. When, I don't know, but soon. Insert scene from "Spaceballs" here.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

Here's a link to a Times Union article with photo gallery, on RPI's new football palace. http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=840230

One item from the story which should please most folks here: "...With little fanfare thus far RPI has decided to christen all of its sports teams the Engineers, eliminating the moniker Red Hawks used by some of its programs."
:D :D :D :D

I am surprised, but happy, that all the teams will be called the Engineers.

Could someone explain the first two pictures on the left of the article? Did someone from Albany go to Troy for the first time and get lost? Those pictures are nowhere near the ECAV.

They're probably those CAD representations. :P
