Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

considering the head coach, most would have avoided her too

they haven't named the coach of the Olympic team yet, so a little early to get your undies in a bunch

I think it would be somewhat surprising if Stauber wasn't named to coach the Olympic team eventually at this point. You'd think they'd want some continuity there. But maybe they want to keep their options open. Mark Johnson was named to coach the 2010 Olympic team in January of 2009.
They have also announced the 23 players on the women's roster for the world's including 8 Gophers (if the Lams are included).

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

As per today's Pioneer Press. Reagan Carey, director of women's hockey said the coach for the Four Nations Cup next winter and the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea would be appointed after the world championships.

The article also indicated following the overtime loss to Canada in the gold medal game at the 2014 Olympics, USA Hockey decided to name the women's team coach for individual events, rather than a longer term.

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

I was wondering the same thing. In the era of equality, you'd have a hard time convincing me that there is not ONE qualified female to coach an all female team. I believe any criticism handed out is warranted.

well, if you are going to criticize the person mostly responsible for the hiring decision, calling her a sexist probably is off the mark. Since all the men are white, the obvious answer then is that she is a racist.

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

Stauber was goalie coach for UMD Women's team from 2004-08. He was the goalie coach for Team USAs women's team from 2011-14 including at the Olympics, as well as a scout for that team 2012-13.
He was an assistant coach for Team USA women from 2014-16, and was the head coach for Team USA at the women's winter champions series in Dec 2016 and at the 2 winter training camps in Dec 2016 and Feb 28-March 2 this year.
He also coached the Whitecaps in 2015-16.

So is the moral of your story that Team USA better hope that Stauber leaves them "hung out to dry"

Starting to look like Team USA might be leaving Stauber "hung out to dry".

At least he'll know where they are and what their reasoning was...unless, of course, his reputation preceded him...haha.

since you are so familar with the Bulldogs, maybe you can give us a list of all of the coaches that served under the Coach Whose Name Shan't Be Said and the number of years served

seems to me she had a number that only lasted a year, her own former player no less

She probably screamed an yelled at them too so they probably decided not to be treated like that and left.

Lighten up...just having some fun with FHF.

I could "care less" about the topic of Stauber "irregardless" of whether or not anyone "misunderestimates" my motives.

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

What do folks here thing the odds are that the two sides will reach an agreement and this group of players represents the USA in the tournament?
If USA hockey refuses to compromise will some of the players jump ship and play anyway?
Or if they stay together would USA hockey be able to field a different team (like college all stars) to represent the USA?

And play for who?

Canada?

The reprobati at Hockey Canada might attempt to devise some cover that they figure would be politically palatable in explaining their open arms although it wouldn't do much for the game itself.

No, I meant play for the U.S. Some team members could possibly decide that they have too much invested to not play and that's more important than a little more money.

I thought you meant jump the establishment ship with all the flags a flyin'...not jump the upstart pirate frigate.

But think about the mental gymnastics they would have to go through to make that decision, if they made it.

The vets have been working on this for some time, I don't see them moving off their position. Would you really want to send a second team, amassed in two weeks, to play Canada? Not to say what that does to the overall program. The players received $3500/month for centralization in Boston for the last Olympic cycle. Think about finding a place to live, eat and drive around Boston. Oh ya, it was $3500/month before taxes. They need more help and fair is fair and USA hockey needs to realize that their are 2 sexes playing the game.

For the time being at least both sides seem to have dug in their heels and show no signs of compromising. And since I posted those questions I see that USA is now on record that they will field a "competitive team" for the tournament. So we appear to be at a crossroads, and I'm just trying to lay out the possibilities and determine the most likely outcome.

I do hope they come to an agreement, because if they don't it can't be good for women's hockey in the U.S.

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

when you are the host, you pretty much have to tell the guests you will have a team regardless what happens, to keep the guests from getting nervous about the schedule and even if the games will go on

Re: Robb Stauber Named Head Coach for U.S. Women's National Team

oh yeah, that would be a great career move
and what about Reagan Carey? shouldn't she be standing solid with her sisters?
