And in the spirit of decisions that go against the sprit of common sense, I say Wayne Wilson should start Ken MacLean on Senior Night :D

That's just silly when 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'' is still a viable option for picking the starting goalies this weekend

Rotolo on Friday, Ruby on Saturday and MacLean to substitute for whomever stinks it up on their respective nights!

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Ruby has had his moments where he is on. Rotolo made the big saves to keep RIT alive against ROMO to get the win.

While generally both Ruby and Rotolo played well last weekend, I fail to see how Rotolo played significantly better? Ruby made several very large saves in his game, as did Rotolo. And both made some mistakes that allowed RMU goals. Saying that one played head and shoulders above the other is not looking at them objectively.

For example, RMU's second and third goals right after RIT scored Saturday night were not particularly difficult shots. And Ruby's momentary hesitation on the GWG on Friday doomed his otherwise good idea.

So both made some great saves and both played generally well, but neither really bailed the team out either.

Ruby single handedly lost the game Friday in the most gut-wretching way. That's why he didn't start on Saturday. If he doesn't blow that play he probably gets the start on Saturday. I agree he played well on Friday, but that mistake was unforgivable. Luckily we got bailed out by other teams in the AHC so we still have a shot at where we want to be...

Conversely Rotolo may have given up a soft goal, but he shut the door in the 3rd which is when the team needed him to step up.

Tonight felt like playoff hockey. IMHO best performance by theTigers in a quite a while.
Mitchells goal should make the NC CA top 5 for the week.

Mitchell's goal on Saturday night was easily one of my favorites from the entire season. Shooting between the legs of the defender. I love it! I agree it should make the top 5 for the week.

I guess the defensemen that Cody Wydo skated in between to achieve the breakaway had no hand in the play?
Garbowsky, 2nd highest goal scorer in the nation, missing a basically empty net a few moments earlier to give RIT the lead did not contribute to the loss?
A nationally ranked penalty killing unit that couldn't prevent Greg Gibson from setting up alone in the slot multiple times, nothing there either?

Saying Ruby singlehandedly lost the game is an interesting but exceedingly lopsided viewpoint, in my opinion.

While it might not be fair, goalie mistakes stick out the most in people's minds same with quarterbacks and pitchers. Its a high pressure position in which mistakes are not tolerated. I didn't see this particular play myself so I don't know how warranted any criticism might be. I was playing in a hockey game of my own where my goaltender was busy blowing the game for us in OT in a pretty gut wrenching way :)

To further inflate it, it was also everyone's last memory of the game. If you're going to make 99 great plays and 1 stinker, you're better off blowing the first one of the game rather than the last one.

The Tigers aren't in the position they're in just because of Ruby or Rotolo. They're where they are because for so much of the season they were way too dependent on Garbowsky to score and Ruby & Rotolo to be near perfect.

For all of the doom and gloom from a couple of months ago, the Tigers have their fortunes in their own hands, with the opportunity to a week off and host the second round. Look on the bright side, they're playing the best hockey they've played in a couple of years, and they're doing it just before playoff time. Could be some fun times ahead over the next month. Enjoy...

I think the AHA tournament is wide open, in spite of what the standings show. The Robert Morris goaltending is as shaky if not more than RIT's. The big difference is that Robert Morris has been able to score a lot more often and with more players than RIT. Wydo's only point on the weekend was the game winner, while 5 of RIT's goals this past weekend came from the MGM line.

The Tigers are in the position they are in because the power play is firing at half the rate it was last season. Every other part of the game has improved over last year. If they were scoring at last year's rate of 21.5%, they'd have 9 more goals. That could have put the team in 1st or 2nd place.

Looks like it was Wilson's plan to split duties last weekend as Ditulio said in Friday's pregame conversation that Rotolo was starting Saturday.

No offense, but that's an absurd statement. No breakaway goal to one of the conference's best players should ever result in the words "[The goalie] singlehandedly lost them the game". I do think Rotolo played slightly better than Ruby last weekend, which is pretty much the reverse of the weekend before. And the idea that Ruby cost himself a start on Saturday with poor play has been contradicted by coach Wilson's pre-game talk on Friday. And frankly, the whole team stepped up in the third period Saturday night when they needed to slam the door, not just Rotolo. Giving up only 6 shots in the 3rd period (including a minute long 5 on 3) to the best team in the conference is phenomenal and crediting that to just Rotolo "shutting the door" is disingenuous.

They've split time almost every weekend this year. Both have been given the odd weekends to take the job and run with it, and neither played well enough on those weekends to do so. And frankly, Ruby has been closer, putting together a nice run before the holidays which included a 3 point weekend against Canisius before Mass-Lowell took it to us (Ruby lasted two periods in that game) and Rotolo played well against Minnesota. Rotolo's performances in back to back starts on the same weekend should give anyone pause: 4 allowed on 26 shots against Air Force in an OT loss and 4 allowed on 24 shots in that 3rd period collapse against Niagara. There's absolutely no reason they shouldn't split starts again this weekend with Ruby getting the start on senior night.

I'm not sure where he got that information. After Friday night's game, Wilson said in his postgame interview that they'd have to review the video before making the decision, and as of an hour before warmups Saturday, the starting goalie decision still had not yet been communicated to the sports information staff.

A generous interpretation would be that Wilson was actually pleased with the majority of Ruby's work in Friday night's game (including a sparkling save on a cross ice one-timer in the slot in the first period while I believe it was still 1-0 RIT) and that he didn't want to give the impression that he was throwing his goaltender under the bus for what was undeniably a mistake in the dying seconds (and giving up a not so great goal to tie the game as well). Or, DiTullio could have made it up or completely misinterpreted something Wilson said and assumed that they'd be splitting time since that's what they've done every weekend sans the Niagara weekend. Wouldn't put it past him, that's for sure - it wouldn't even be the first time he's said something that sounded "insider" that ended up being completely fabricated.

Let's face the facts, both goalies are pretty even this season, showing signs of brilliance and then moments of weakness and just having to play in front of a team that sometimes didn't score enough.

RIT has gotten to this point in the season on the play of the entire team and quite honesty, are not in a bad position in the standings. Get some points this weekend and they can get a bye week or at least a home play-off game to start. Can you honestly ask for anything more than that?

If he was beaten clean on the breakaway, I would agree with you. Similar situation happened to Rotolo against Niagara and everyone crucified him for being beat clean, I didn't like that and argued the high percentages of breakaway scoring.

However, Ruby looked completely lost. He hesitated in making a decision to either play the puck or stay back to try and stop the shot. That hesitation caused him to limply leave the net but fail to have any kind of position to make the play on the puck, leading to a goal that didn't even require the shooter to shoot the puck! Ruby has to at least make the guy beat him in that situation, and instead all he did was play the part of a pylon for Wydo to skate around with ease. Again, if he had stayed in his crease and tried to make the save and been beaten clean...I would have been disappointed but not enraged. Instead he straight up blew it.

They've split time almost every weekend this year. Both have been given the odd weekends to take the job and run with it, and neither played well enough on those weekends to do so. Unless you plan to rotate goalies during the playoffs, there absolutely is a reason they shouldn't split starts. Wilson has to hand the reins to somebody, and the idea of waiting until the playoffs start to do it seems pretty asinine to me. The team needs a starting goalie for the playoffs, for better or worse.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I was talking with Robert Morris coach Derek Schooley before the game on Friday and he said that he would prefer to have a go-to goalie in the playoffs like last year (when Izyk was forced into the role because of an injury to Shafer). He hinted that he was breaking up the rotation he has used all year, but in the end he did not, at least not last weekend.

He and I were trying to remember times when a tandem had been successful in the postseason, and we both came up with Maine in 1993 (Garth Snow and Mike Dunham) and Miami in 2009 (Connor Knapp and Cody Reichard). It can be done.
