Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Considering RIT is in the AHC, who do you wish to judge RIT against - especially if you don't expect RIT to be a consistent top 20 team?

His point is if we just continue to compare ourselves against the other mouth breathers in Atlantic Hockey, we cannot reasonably expect this program to ever grow. Atlantic Hockey is terrible. Terrible reputation, bad teams, horrible pairwise. If RIT simply aspires to be the best of the worst...that's all we'll ever be.

We should be setting our sights on something higher than that.

Lets start calling for a coaching change and really get things moving here

Why stop there, Destler hasn't scored a point all season! :D

Bonus points: Which team has fans who another coach in the league, based on this forum, calls idiots?

Says more about the coach and less about the folks who post here. Disappointing.

Nonetheless looking at stats keeps it factual so sticking with that theme this years goalies GAA is in line with some of the better years RIT has enjoyed in D1. What is not in line with those years is the goals scored per game and the differential between the two. Right now we're approx scoring .3 more goals then we're giving up. In comparison Romo has over a +1 goals scored vs given up per game. All things being the same if we can increase the offensive output that could mean a few more wins per season and a better outcome in the standings.

Not being able to finish higher than 5th in the Mouthbreathers Hockey Conference must really sting. But yes, you deserve oh so much better.

I don't deserve anything. If RIT really truly wants to grow their program, as well as attendance, national recognition, and profitability of hockey, then my desires should align with their goals and eventual on-ice product.

You can't be this dim. I know you're trying to be a sarcastic *******, but really this comment is dumb.

We all want to be the best. Realistically I want is to be a top 35 program with the multiple NCAA tournament appearances per decade. Is that too much to ask for?

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

If there is one thing that we all have in common on this board is that we all love the RIT and the RIT Tigers. This is by far the most important commonality we all share.

What makes this board awesome is that not one of us have the same opinion at times or even ever! But I cannot for the life of me figure out why "we" on this board insult each other. There absolutely no reason to insult one another. No one on this board wishes ill for RIT or the Tigers. Please make your arguments with facts. I am guilty at times too.

There are a lot of times that I post on this board out of frustration after a game as a devote fan and I regret it. There are also times that I will make an argument and a Tiger fan corrects me with facts and I respectfully stand corrected.

We are all Tiger fans and I like every one of you for that reason. GO TIGERS! Let’s kick some ROMO Butt!!!

P.S.
Yes, I am a little butt hurt about having a bad reputation. If anyone could share the love I would greatly appreciate that.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Last night on DiTullio's radio show, Coach Wilson stated that he would greatly prefer a first round bye (5th place or above) rather than finish 6th or lower, even with the fact that the team is just about the healthiest it has been all season. He talked about how close the competition is this season in Atlantic Hockey and specifically raised last year's Holy Cross series as an example of what can happen in any playoff series.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I think there's only one other AHC team (Bentley) that even has a thread here....so if we're idiots what does that make everyone else? Nonexistent.

Perhaps the philosophy is that it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt?

But yes, whoever the coach is ought to take this into account.

Okay okay, no insult slinging.

Pro tip, go to an NCHC thread and rant on about Eastern bias or how the B1G is ruining college hockey. You'll stockpile reputation.

Uh oh, some of the straw must have fallen out of the nest into our thread! What's it like going to a game in a rink with glass so filthy you can't see through it? We've got an extra rink on campus if you'd like to rent it for weekends.

It was only partially sarcastic. Unless you are an elite national team, why would you compare yourself to teams outside your conference because those are the teams you always play? What good is comparing yourself to a Bowling Green, RPI, or Alaska - just to name teams that are not consistently getting to the NCAA? Aside from the elite teams that consistently make the NCAAs like BC, Minnesota, and North Dakota, fans of all teams want multiple NCAA tournament appearances per decade.

We do all want the best. Certainly we want more NCAA tournament appearances. In their 10 years (8 eligible), they have 1. I bet there are at least 20 teams outside of the AHA/AHC that have that many or fewer NCAA tournament appearances in the time that RIT has been eligible.

Honestly, the way things are right now, it certainly seems to be (unfortunately).
Only a landscape change will change that. In order to be a consistent top 35 program that makes multiple NCAA appearances, RIT has to return to being one of the elite teams in AHC and stay there. Anything less than that means (more often than not) being bottom 15 and rarely, if at all, making NCAA (or BCA for that matter) appearances. The only other way this program will have a chance at meeting some of our "national" expectations for the long term future would be to move into one of the Big 5 conferences and start competing week in and week out against non mid-major competition. Scholarships would certainly help, but are not a be-all and end-all (see Union's NC). And getting scholarships would involve even bigger changes like the entire athletic department moving to D-II or D-I. There does not appear publicly to be any inclination to make either of those moves any time soon.

My point was merely that as long as RIT is in AHC, then aspirations of national relevance are futile.

Sounds like you have a great place to watch a mediocre team in the worst conference in the nation. I'm sure Hockey East is just licking their chops.

Mediocre team that split with yours on the road this year, watch out! I'll happily bet you that we each play exactly the same number of AHC championship games this season.

Also it's the ECAC not Hockey East that would be looking. But Bentley won't have to worry about either of those anytime, well...ever.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

There are 59 teams - some w/ inherent advantages - all striving for the same goal
RIT has a great facility, great coach, great AD and a supportive administration

Likewise at SLU looking forward to a Frozen Four appearance after a 27 year absence
Unlikely, however, to be the consistent powerhouse team of the 50's and 60's

ECAC presence for RIT would no doubt lift the current pessimism

You're exactly right about Bentley. But there are no Bentley fans whining that we deserve a better conference, despite being a more successful program as of late.

Well it was great that SLU came down this year to help us open our new rink. I know that RIT enjoys it's association with SLU and the other ECAC schools that are also in the Liberty League. I/We can only hope that RIT does eventually end up in the ECAC as it would be a step in the right direction to elevate RIT's game. I follow the ECAC as well (RPI) and SLU seems to be peaking at the right time despite the tough loss at QPac last week. Best of luck the rest of the way, looking forward to watching you guys in the ECAC Tournament and hopefully in the NCAA Tournament.

Well ... that's because RIT has actually achieved great things. Once you get that taste, you want more. I would argue that our fan base alone deserves a better conference with traveling bands and fans, since we actually show up to games.

I 100% agree, and that's why I stick to my previous statement regarding anything outside of a top 3 finish in the AHC as a failure. While we're here, we better **** well be dominating things. We're not going to be lucky like Uconn and have opportunity fall in our laps.
