Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

You guys say that the team plays better with Rotolo. I'm showing you games that the team did not play well. Say what you will about the teams Ruby played there - but Holy Cross and Canisius are ahead of RIT in the standings.

It seems to me that you guys have a fan crush on Rotolo. I guarantee there will be an open competition next year. I want the person who is going to give RIT the best chance of winning, whomever that may be.

Until Friday - Ruby has not been bad in a month. The team has not given him any support. Rotolo puts up similar numbers, and they have. Ruby gave up 2 goals in a weekend against Niagara and got a win and a tie - is that worth anything? If Coach thinks Ruby is the guy to go with, we should support him. I don't think he is getting any support here. If Coach thinks Rotolo should be the man for the weekend, I support that.

Komey "you guys" is a little bit of a broad brush. Yes it looks like some here want Rotolo in net but from my perspective I am not in the locker room nor the practices so I'm good with whoever is in net. My wish for this team is that they put three pucks into the back of the net each and every game to give either Ruby or Rotolo the confidence to win these important games coming down the home stretch of the regular season.

Niagara has 3 wins in 26 games. They are barely scoring 2 goals a game.

I don't think any division 1 goalie deserves too much back patting for putting them on ice.

While I agree with your basic point that we're not in the locker room and don't see practices, etc.... no coach is perfect. If all we did was support every decision Coach makes, then what would there be to talk about?

Until Friday, when was the last bad game Ruby had?

If Ruby and Rotolo put up identical numbers but Rotolo wins all his starts and Ruby hardly wins any...who do you think should start?

Personally, I've had my hopes and dreams crushed by Ruby more than I'm a fan of Rotolo. I do, however, support the logic that Ruby is on his way out and Rotolo should be developed.

Let's be real here. Ruby isn't going to carry us into the NCAAs. If we even make it back to Blue Cross this season it will be a miracle. Why bother with this rotation over developing Mike?

Not the point. I said before it doesn't matter if Rotolo is slightly better or slightly worse than Ruby at this point.

I think this is a question that the coaching staff is probably pondering right now. Using a goaltender tandem might be a fine approach for parts of the season, but we are rapidly approaching the postseason and I'd think that they'd like to pick one and ride him through to the end. Problem is that since the holidays neither one has stood out better or worse than the other. This past weekend was really the first that there has been a spread between the two. I think we'll see the tandem this weekend with Niagara and perhaps next against Holy Cross. The last two weekends of the season I imagine that we'll see the Tigers going forward with one of them to get ready for the playoffs.

I don't think Ruby had a terrible game on Friday, but not his best. He was pulled to wake the team up. Wayne summed it up well...

“I thought that might wake up the guys a bit. I guess they didn’t really seem to care too much about that either. I can’t pull the 18 skaters off the ice; otherwise, I would have.”

Are people really going to argue that Abt throw horrible passes out of his own zone because Ruby is in net. You really going to tell me that Norrish hates Jordan and that is why he didn't skate hard to the point? I could go one, only could name about 3 guys who I thought played well on Friday. The team slept walked through more than half the game. Again it's all Ruby's fault. Really????

That being said, I wouldn't have a cow if Rotolo got both starts this weekend. I don't think Wayne will do it, but he has surprised me in the past...

Just seems to be a Rochester thing to go crazy over the local kid, seen it from the beginning of my time at RIT. Being someone who just went to college in Rochester the fan reaction to local kids has always been strange to me. Really never seen another college "Boo" a kid in introductions who is from the local area but chose to go to another school. There has been some small exceptions, but it's a given here. I really laugh when we get some kid say on AIC who is a 4th liner and crowd boos him because he was from Rochester.

Rotolo will have to earn the job next year, reviews on the kid they are bringing in are positive. And I really like the fact that he is on a bad team, the more rubber he sees the better.

On your last sentence you could not be more right...

Do you think Rotolo is going to develop more because he plays these last 8 games? Ruby and Rotolo are pretty even. Coach needs to play who he thinks is the hot goaltender. If Ruby is it, then he should play. If it's Rotolo, he plays.

Of course. How else would he develop?

Come on... how often is a 4th liner introduced by name and hometown on opposition ice?

It happen a couple time. A coach will let a guy get introduce and play the first shift, than move him back down to line he normally plays on. Some people are just classy ;-)

Yes. Experience is exactly how players get better.

"Hot." I think you're using that word wrong here. Hot implies that one of our goalies is actively stealing games and playing at an elite level. That's not happening out on the ice today.

That is pretty much what Coach Wilson said on the DiTullio show yesterday. He said that going down the stretch and through the playoffs, he strongly prefers going with one goaltender (paraphrase). He didn't indicate which weekend that would start or who he might be leaning towards choosing, but it will happen.

Just to be clear I'm not a Rochester native and I do not prefer Rotolo because of where he was born. I prefer him because Ruby has the worst fundamentals of any goalie I've seen play at RIT (7 total to this point). Every save he makes appears like a little miracle in and of itself, there's no such thing as an easy save for Ruby. He's constantly over committing, over sliding, and scrambling like a mad man to make saves that anyone else would make routine. He depends too much on pure athleticism and it's a nightmare to try and watch. If you want to get plastered drunk, take a shot every time Ruby looks back into the net in a panic after he makes a routine save. Guy doesn't even trust himself.

I think with the right coach he could really have blossomed into something amazing with his pure athletic skillset, but...well that didn't happen.

How else does a player develop? This is why teams typically choose to leave young goalies in the AHL as starters while they bring in some garbage old vet to play backup at the NHL level for several years. The idea is more starts = better development, even if it's AHL vs NHL starts. Same idea for talented wingers playing the top line at the AHL level rather than 10 minutes a night on the 4th line in the NHL. Teams that don't do this (Oilers!) have a tendency to ruin their prospects or at least stunt their potential, while teams that are good at this often see success.

NCAA hockey is already a very limited schedule compared to the leagues these players are coming from (and compared to the OHL/WHL/etc that the likes of Connor McDavid are in) so it's essential to let your young goalies start as much as possible if you have a lame duck senior like Ruby. Obviously if we had a guy like Madolora as a senior, things are different..

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Perhaps I should have rephrased that my question. Obviously you develop by playing. But it sounds like some of you are willing to give up the rest of the season to "develop Rotolo". This season is not over. All it takes is 4 or 6 wins at the right time to get to the NCAAs depending on the seed. I support Coach playing the goalie that he thinks is going to get the team there, no matter who it is.

Yes, it would make sense to go with Ruby if he was clearly better than Rotolo. But he's not. So all else being equal, why not go with the guy who still has two years left at RIT?

This is true, but I have a bad feeling about this weekend. I would never count Niagara out when playing RIT. Niagara will always bring their A game.
