Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

The weekend is still salvageable. We need Romo to sweep AF and Bentley and mercyhurst to split as well as Niagara and holy cross to split.
If RIT is going to have any shot at hosting a quarterfinal game, this game is pretty much a must win. If the results above happen and RIT wins, that will set up RIT better for that.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

From the recap:

According to Wilson, we should expect to see a different line-up for the Tigers when these teams face off again on Saturday night.

“You can’t come out and perform like that and think nothing’s gonna happen from it, so they don’t get to play at home.”

Someone explain to me how the goaltender is responsible for the team scoring goals.

If you don't believe that teams play better or worse in front of certain goalies, then I guess you'll just never get it.

The team clearly plays better with Rotolo on the ice, and has ever since last season. Remember how we were terrible and then he made his debut and we went on a 6 game unbeaten streak? It's not a coincidence that RIT hasn't won this January with Ruby in net...

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Any goalie can have a bad night. Even Binnington got pulled last night after giving up 3 goals in the first five minutes. (The ladies went on to win in OT!) But this is becoming a trend with Ruby. He's a senior; I think we've seen his peak performance, and it's only good. Rotolo is the guy who needs the reps if we expect him to be a great goalie by his senior year.

It must be easy to forget how terrible Rotolo was at the start of the year. He gave up 16 goals in his first 4 starts - and that includes a game where he only allowed 1 goal. Yes, he has played better of late.

Ruby beat Sacred Heart on Jan 16. Prior to last night, he only gave up a total of 6 goals in his last 3 goals. Tell me again why HE is the reason why they only have 1 win.

The big problem to me is the offense is somewhat inconsistent and dependent on the top line. That has nothing to do with the goaltending.

Well. it's like the Bad News Bears(the first one), you put a player like Timmy Lupus (Ruby) in the line-up, the team stinks up the field and is hopeless. Now, here is where the magic comes in, you bring in a player like Kelly Leek (that would be Rotolo) and all of a sudden, his presence makes all the other players play better, score more runs and they win the league!

If it can happen in baseball and the movies, science and logic say that it can apply to hockey as well! :D

You are correct, their losses have come when the team fails on defense and they don't score that 1 or more goals that would have given them the win.

I mean, you have to be joking. You're going to count a start against Boston College against the guy? He was our best player on the ice that night. If Ruby had been in that game, we easily give up double digits.

You take that game away and its 11 in 3, which is by no means good but it's a whole heck of a lot better than you are trying to say. Combine that with how notoriously slow starting RIT is and you have a recipe for trouble.

Ruby has shown over 4 years now that he is simply not the guy. Cut the cord and move on. Rotolo can be our #1 for the future.

Better result achieved. Though that quick whistle on what should have been Garbo's second goal was ridiculous. Chris Foote owes Heritage Christian Services $25.

After the game before you signed off one of you made a comment about RIT playing down to the opposition. Ed I would not have mentioned it if I didn't hear it. I agree with that premise, but nonetheless lets hope for a better result tonight.

That was probably me. Actually, I think I said that RIT had a tendency to play at the level of its opponents this season (implying up or down), which isn't quite the same as you stated but I can see how if could be interpreted that way.

No worries Scott, in the future I'll be a little more careful on how I interpret your words. I'm just happy that we had a better outcome on Saturday. We all tend to over analyze the losses and the Friday loss was especially disappointing. Glad we "righted the ship" (I'm ex Navy) and that RoMo swept AF.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Well if this past weekend was must-wins, then this upcoming weekend is must-must wins.

Niagara has an 8 game losing streak and only 8 points on the season....this is a team that can't be allowed to get anything from RIT. Currently only 5 points separate 8th from 2nd in AHA, so a sweep would likely jump us up several spots. First we'll have to get over our Dwyer problem..

Yes, I have said that as well. The days of blowouts are gone. Maybe it's parity but I think a lot has to do with still thinking you're going to beat teams because the standings say so and then not putting forth the effort needed. Friday was right there for them - the word going in was there was going to a large crowd, it was the first home game for students since Dec. 12, and Army was struggling coming into the game. A perfect "trap" game and they fell into it.

So while the pattern earlier in the season was win Friday, lose Saturday, it's now shifted to lose Friday, win Saturday. This weekend will be interesting as we radio guys like to point out that RIT has never beaten Niagara at Dwyer. The coaches say this isn't something they think about but never is a long time (in this case 18 years). The next chance comes Friday night.

Win or lose it sets up an interesting game at RIT on Saturday.

I'm not arguing that Ruby should be the #1. What I AM stating is that team doesn't simply play better because of Rotolo. Rotolo had the chance to be the #1 guy. He had 1 win and 3 brutal games - BC, Air Force (although that should have been a tie if it weren't for a bad call by the ref in OT affecting the team), and Robert Morris.

After the Bobby Mo game, Ruby got the job, and after his game against them he put together a nice run:

Nov. 7 Holy Cross 3 34 64:42 T
Nov. 8 Holy Cross 2 19 58:39 L
Nov. 14 at Canisius 3 22 64:49 T
Nov. 15 at Canisius 0 19 60:00 W
Nov. 21 Sacred Heart 1 25 59:55 W
Nov. 22 Sacred Heart 2 22 58:39 L
Dec. 12 Niagara 1 24 59:03 W
Dec. 13 at Niagara 1 30 65:00 T

3-2-3 record. I would find it hard to say that Rotolo the way he was playing at that time would have done any better.

I think the thing for Coach to decide is was Ruby's bad game Friday a fluke because for the last 3 games prior he was playing well enough to win but was not getting support, or does he go with Rotolo who has been winning with almost equal stats the prior 3 weekend and played well this weekend.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Although Rotolo didn't make a ton of saves at Air Force, he got us our first Friday win at Cadet Ice Arena (and the team played great in front of him), and he played well enough to tie on Saturday. Boston College was ranked #7 at the time we played them, and Robert Morris was pseudo-#21 at the time (ranked #19 this week) and is clearly the best team in the league. Meanwhile, the Ruby results you list are a mix of good and bad AHA teams, but not nearly in the same class as BC and Robert Morris. That's a completely unfair comparison.

As I said before, we know Ruby's ceiling. He's at it. What has Ruby shown that gives you any indication that the team can consistently get wins in front of him? Rotolo may not be better or worse at this point, but he's an underclassman, which means he has more potential upside and we need to get him more reps.

Preach! I swear to God, posters on this RIT forum do not want to win. They would rather make sure everyone has a chance to play. If you suck. You suck. They're big boys playing D1. If they suck, let them know.

I feel like if that was our teams motif, we'd have gotten 2-3 new goalies this season.

Well if we had our collective druthers, Rotolo would be in goal (Winters), we would have over 40 shots (LtPowers) and we would score at least three goals (me, Downstate) ... Lol. I think that would be a pretty good formula that would give us a good chance to win. We'll have to see if any of our wishes play out on Friday night.

Did anybody read the scholarship article in the paper? What do you think? What will come first, scholarships for our men's and women's D1 Hockey teams, or the return of the RIT Football team?
