Although highly unlikely (I'm being VERY optimistic here), it is 100% possible for RIT to move into 3rd place saturday night.

Also, interesting stat - RIT has the 2nd lowest goals-against in Atlantic Hockey with 58 (Holy Cross is 1st with 51). A good indicator as to how the defense has really shaped up this year as opposed to last year, and to how Ruby has stepped up as well.

Only if you ignore strength of schedule and officiating errors.

Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, and AIC... 4th, 8th, and 10th in AHA. I don't think strength of schedule is much of a factor in this statement at all.
And we all know that the poor officiating is consistent throughout this conference. That cancels itself out. They're no worse against RIT than anyone else. They just aren't very good.

Yes, it is an improvement, but 2nd is misleading. They are actually only 5th in GAA. (They're tied for the fewest games played in conference).
Note: They actually are listed as having 57 GA, tied with Bentley.

About SOS, I'm speaking generically. Keep in mind that even if the league schedule as a whole was perfectly balanced, it's still inherently unbalanced until after the last game of the season is played.

And I don't think poor officiating necessarily cancels itself out. It's inevitable that one team or another will get the short end of the stick in any given season.

Here we go again. RIT completely dominates possession, territory, and SOG, but comes out of the period down one.

2 goals on 13 shots through two periods. What else can the defense do... Got to be so frustrating for the team. They definitely play better in front of Rotolo overall.

The D has to play perfect, as usual. Any mistake ends up in the back of the net.

Sounded to me over the radio that the 2nd goal was a bit weak. Can't have pucks sneak through you from the point, screen or not. I think it's a given they'll go back to Rotolo for tomorrow night.

Shots 33-17. How do we lose that game?

RIT seemed to do what they have been want to do against the better teams in the conference - play well enough to lose. The effort seems to be there, but they don't put enough goals in the back of the net. Last night's game was ripe for the taking against a backup goaltender who has not played well, and they could not take advantage. A win tonight is imperative for the Tigers for them to get a bye, imo.

Still not buying the high total shots should equal a win, Sacred Heart put 40 up against us and lost. I think of the analogy of boxing, Mike Tyson wasn't known for jabbing his way to victory, his total punches thrown was usually pretty low, but we all agree that the hay makers that he threw when they connected, usually spelled trouble for his opponents. I'd take two or three quality chances from in front over a dozen wrist shots from the point. Anyway, about tonight.

As close to a must win as we can get this season. When I looked at the remaining schedule during the winter break I thought the month of January should be the month for RIT to make noise. I was "hoping" for sweeps of AIC, Sacred Heart and Army and a split with Bentley. We were close with AIC and Sacred Heart taking 7 of 8 points. February will be tough and a .500 February would be respectable. Like coach said, a three point weekend you gain ground in the standings, a split you and probably stay where you are. The flip side, a one point or zero point weekend and you are going backwards. I will be following RIT with my cell phone from Tate Rink where tonight Army hosts the Royal Military College of Canada in an exhibition game that because of the rivalry between the two schools never plays out like an exhibition.

Lets go Tigers!

I don't know Komey, I was just hoping that RIT could host a playoff round, that's why I think a win is imperative, I need to go back and look at the way the playoffs will be set up this year. Who gets the byes? Top four/three?

Top 5 get byes. Seeds 6-8 host 1st round games. Seeds 1-4 host quarterfinals.

The Tigers player better for Rotolo, simple as that.

The second Bentley goal is all on Rotolo. He also cost RIT a too many men penalty. RIT played well both games - only tonight they were able to get some goals.

The Tigers HAVE to get 4 points from Army.

Rooting interest for next week: Bobby Mo over Air Force. Bentley and Mercyhurst split or Bentley takes 3 points.

Not sure how the goalie can cause a too many men penalty, nor how the second goal is all on Rotolo, but in any event there is no doubt in my mind they play overall better and more confident in front of him.

I'm still don't understand the goalie situation. I believe there is no doubt that the team plays or at least always wins with Rotolo in AHA matches. The team just seems like it doesn't gel with Ruby. Although in Rubys defense, he always plays the first night, so everyone doesn't know what the expect, but come the second night everyone knows what they have to do plus Ruby and Rotolo can talk about what went wrong and what didn't.

This would make sense except that for the month that Ruby got all the starts, RIT typically played better on Friday's and then sat back on Saturdays. Sacred Heart at home is a great example. Putting Rotolo in on Saturdays seems to have gotten the team to come out fighting on that second night regardless of the result the night before.

The last two weekends we have Tied/Lost on Friday (Ruby) and Won/Won on Saturday (Rotolo). Additionally, the Saturday Tigers have scored 8 goals in those two weeks compared to 3 on Friday.

All you have to do is watch how everyone interacts with Rotolo on the ice. They are always talking to him, engaging with him, he's very vocal on the ice and does a lot of traffic directing. Frankly I think the team just enjoys playing for him.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Nice bounce back win in a game that many of us felt RIT had to win. Army travels to Princeton on Tuesday for an OOC to play those 'tigers' before heading to RIT for Friday nights match-up. Not sure if the Tuesday match-up helps Army or hurts them once they get up to RIT but I'm sure the RIT staff will factor that in as they prep for Army. The Army - RMC game last night was a non-event as the game was 7-0 after two periods for Army in a bad mis-match between the two service Academy's. Perhaps the best part was the battle of the schools bag-pipe bands before the game. Very cool!
