Yeah the might 3-14-5 AIC Yellow Jackets (3-8-5 AHA). If not for a Niagara team that been floored by injuries they would be dead last...

Before you get too smug you might want to take note of the fact that RIT only has 2 more conference wins than them and only one more out of conference win.

If you look at their games against AHA foes they are generally losing by 1 or 2 goals, just like they did against us. They might be in 11th place but they aren't playing like a doormat.

No matter how you cut it they have a guy with 15 goals on the season, so one should at the very least respect that the guy can score. Statistically they DO have a better sniper than RIT.

My takeaway from this is that RIT is disappointing and AIC is still disappointing.

My impression of Ruby is that he has very good positioning... but if he's out of position, the puck is going in the net. Rotolo's positioning isn't as good but he can rob shooters of goals at times. Am I way off base?

I would say you are a bit off, yes. I find Ruby to be an absolute mess positionally. He is always scrambling to get back in position to make a save and as a result has always had a tendency to make even routine saves look fancy because he had to make an incredible slide or dive to make them. He's capable of incredible athleticism which certainly helps, but can't be relied on always. He's more likely to give up the soft goals though because his poor positioning can make routine saves require flash that you can't always have.

Rotolo is more like Madolora, where he sticks to where he should be and makes (for the most part) the saves he should make. It's less common that he's caught out of position, but when he is he's not necessarily going to have Ruby's ability to make up for it with a ridiculous stop. Now Madolora basically combined the strengths of both goalies, which is why he was so great, but I digress.

Watching Ruby is always tough because he's always flopping all over the place and just never looks comfortable, which makes me uncomfortable watching him.

Mostly it was a theory I developed watching them last weekend. Certainly it sounds like Ruby disproved it last night.

Ruby's style can definitely be effective, it really depends on how RIT limits the quality of shots against him and more importantly how well they handle rebounds and prevent second chances. The defense as a whole is much better than last year, which is why we're seeing Ruby enjoying a better campaign.

From the radio broadcast, next year's non-conference opponents:

* at St. Lawrence (Oct)
* at Clarkson (Oct)
* Bowling Green (BCA)
* at Boston College (Nov)
* Colgate
* at Colgate

Also, the next three years of homecoming games:

* Bowling Green
* U. Conn.

Northeastern is interesting, not a lot of surprises for the rest of the OOC schedule. Homecoming games are more winnable than Michigan and BC...

Huge 4 point weekend - first one of the year. It's good momentum going into a tough series against Bentley, who is 1 point ahead of RIT in the standings. RIT also only 1 point behind Holy Cross, and have a game in hand against the Crusaders. Also congrats to Miles Powell for his first career goal, which is also the game winner.

Maybe there's something to this goalie rotation thing going on.

From hockeybuzz.com. Talking about Tanev:

Tanev Contract Talks Begin

One thing that'll help determine how much money the Canucks have to spend on free agents will be the contract that Chris Tanev eventually signs. The 25-year-old has made the most of his one-year bridge deal, when Jim Benning asked him to show what he could do.

What he's done is to step up as a top-pairing defenseman, drawing the toughest assignments every night and helping to rejuvenate Alex Edler after a disastrous 2013-14 season under he-who-must-not-be-named.

He has also managed to stay healthy despite ranking third on the team in ice time at 21:03 and leading the team by a mile with 111 blocked shots.

Thomas Drance at The Score is reporting that the Canucks plan to begin "serious" contract talks with Tanev's agent this week, based on comments from Elliotte Friedman during Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast and Jim Benning's radio appearance on Friday, where he said this:

He's played real well for us, with him and Alex Edler – they've been a real good matchup pair for us playing against the other team's top line. So we'll get something figured out with him.

Tanev's leverage will still be limited by the fact that he's a restricted free agent, but he could earn himself a tidy raise over this year's $2 million salary if the Canucks hope to lock him up over the long term.

Next year's Saint Lawrence & Clarkson tilt I think will end out that agreement. So look for maybe another ECAC agreement, would be nice to see Union or RPI. Heard of some talk of RIT hosting a holiday tournament, one idea was to bring in Clarkson, RPI, & Michigan Tech for a tech tournament. The obvious hurdle is both RPI and Clarkson being in the ECAC.

Northeastern is nice to see, hope there is a return trip there. RIT played Wentworth at Matthews Arena be fun to see them play there again.

Am I allowed to be Smug now that RIT is 7 points better than AIC?

Kidding aside, RIT should have 4 more points in the standing. At least 1 more point from the Holy Cross series, 2 from the Sacred Fart Home loss, and the AIC tie. Those loss points would put them just 1 back of second Canisius. So I do see RIT as being dangerous down the stretch and think they could have as good of a chance as anyone to knock off Robert Morris in the AHA Championship. They are starting to trend the right way, and while some at the bottom have improved, I think they are getting too much credit...

I would say no, not until RIT gets 3 points from Bentley this weekend. If RIT can get 3 points minimum this weekend, RIT will be a terror down the stretch. RIT has this way of going a winning streak to get their fans all excited and then out of the blue, gets just as big of a losing streak!

Insha'Allah

This feels like a pretty important weekend for RIT. Army coming to town next week should be 4 points, but after that we have a weekend with Niagara...and I don't care where they are in the standings, they will give us hell.

If we get 3-4 points against Bentley we'll be in a real good position by the time we head to Niagara in February.

You forgot 1 point vs Air Force.

Only if you ignore strength of schedule and officiating errors.

I agree this is a big series. I think they NEED to get at least 2 points, but obviously 3 or 4 is much better. After that, it's 7 out of the last 10 games at home. I think having all those home games will be huge.
