Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

The weird thing for me was the concession stands. They had no menus or prices, so when you walked up, you had to ask what they had and how much it cost. And the workers had to enter the item into the cash register to tell you the price.

This was a glitch with the screen settings on the TVs used for the menus, and was fixed today.

As far as security policies/security goes, RIT Public Safety is no longer responsible for hiring the contract security officers doing the bag checks and the like - that is all hired by the new department known as RIT Arenas now. I read on Facebook that the camera policy was discussed today and is being reversed.

As far as bottles go, I hope they would follow the policy Ritter had which was a sealed bottle or an empty bottle were allowed.

While I don't agree with some of the policies, they are in fact all posted here: http://www.rit.edu/fa/arenas/gene-polisseni-center/building-policies
So they can argue that you were informed.

I was told that ETC Services is pulling 16 hour shifts to get all the electronics right. No menus at concessions was a glitch. Also, I was told that there is indeed more functionality on the video screens and they were getting on a conference call with the vendor after the game on Monday to work on those. Yeah, at 10:00pm. I used to work with those guys when I was the IT Director at the Wallace Center and they are talented and dedicated.

Selfishly, I used to like having access everywhere at Ritter with a press pass. In the new barn, many areas are off limits to me and the rest of the media, and we need access to some of those in order to cover the games the way we think they should be. We are still working out the logistics of how we're interviewing coach Wilson, for example.

They are spending a LOT on security. There's a dedicated security office on the southwest corner, and folks stationed at every entrance, stairwell, etc. checking badges. I had to show my pass three times to get from the press entrance to the pressbox.

I'm happy to hear the camera policy is being changed. Did you see that on one of RIT's Facebook pages? If so which one?

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Remember way back when, folks were adamantly dreading how the new rink would have no atmosphere, the huge building would be quiet as a church on Sunday, unlike the cozy confines of the always loud Ritter Arena. Now after one event, people are complaining that the new rink is TOO LOUD. Really?

Scott, the problem is not the volume, it's the clarity of the PA system and the fidelity of the band's sound. Those problems are exacerbated by increased volume, though the first may be mitigated by more bodies in seats. (Though I will complain about the volume of the PA in the breezeway; I was trying to get my will-call tix at the box office and Rocky's pregame announcements made it nearly impossible to communicate.)

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Is the train horn coming back or will they be using a different sound this year?

They do not currently have a horn due to budget concerns. Luckily though, I know of a donor who is in touch with the people in charge and is ready to donate money to purchase one as soon as possible. It doesn't feel right without one.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I would think that a horn recording played on the PA could take its place in the interim, whether it was a stock sound effect or better yet, a recording of the old horn.

Speaking of which, couldn't the old horn be relocated?

Probably not worth it, since it's pretty much permanently mounted in Ritter.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I agree. Even though Wilson's contract doesn't expire until 2017, I think this is a year of high expectations brought on by the new rink. I think RIT's strength will be its defense. The Tigers needs a go-to guy in net and people that can put the puck in the net in even strength situations.

Goaltending will be a question mark at several schools. Niagara and RMU have the opposite problem - two goalies that have shown they can play (although Teichroeb at NU is injured). Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, Sacred Heart, Canisius and AIC are set. But Air Force, Bentley, Army and RIT have work to do.

I agree that there needs to be an upward trend sooner than later.

On the goal horn. Why not just remove the one in the Ritter and bring it to the new rink????

This just doesn't seem right to me. How could they possibly go into the season without having funds for one of the most basic elements of a hockey arena. What the hell kind of team doesn't have a goal horn?!

It was installed in the ceiling, what did they do concrete it in? I would think remove a few bolts and you can move it. What is this a state school operation??????????????????????????:mad::mad::mad::mad:

They were incredibly over budget. The funding from donations did not come close to what was expected, and so corners had to be cut in a lot of places.

Maybe a few TV screens and those pictures of the players on the wall should have been saved for later additions, and the goal horn be installed for opening. It can't be THAT expensive

This is more or less true, although funding didn't come THAT short of the goal. Given the number of amenities and little things they did to the place, I refuse to believe that there isn't a goal horn because they couldn't pay for it. There HAS to be more to it than that. The program would never allow RIT to let them ride through a season without a goal horn. It'd be super embarrassing.

I'll ask around tomorrow if I can find the right people (it being ROAR day and all) and get some answers.

Just ask the powers that be and a Train Horn is being installed Next week. For this weekend they will be playing an audio file of a Horn. -Goon

"It won't be installed until Tuesday. ..."

Duct tape is stronger than you think! Union says it will take 12 workmen 4 hours to rip it out!

Be interesting to see what this year's team brings to the exhibition. The freshmen will finally get some RIT game action.
