Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I think an existing DI women's team might tilt scales in RIT's favor should the ECAC need to look for another team.
Maybe, but if ECAC tells prospective suitors that a Women's team will help then Holy Cross could upgrade their Women's team easily enough (they're already D-I, just playing down in D-III) if they're serious about joining ECAC.

If Quinnipiac brings both teams to Hockey East it seems like natural fit. The only Danger is Holy Cross could seem like a very good fit in Hockey East IF[/] they are willing to put serious money into the team. I've heard a lot of speculation about Holy Cross, but has anyone there stepped up the way UCONN did last year?

I just can't see Holy Cross adding 6 scholarships and building an on-campus rink. They don't have the name value (even in College Hockey) that UConn brought to the table.

They have name value in North Dakota. :p:D

Holy Cross brought up the whole playing games in a larger rink when they were considered around 2004 when UVM announced they were leaving the ECAC. It's a "same old story" sort of thing. Quinnipiac's new rink was also out of necessity, considering they had been playing games at Northford Ice Pavilion (and the men actually had to play home games at Ingalls because of the size of Northford).

Holy Cross was invited to ECAC the last time they had an opening despite this issue. Holy Cross politely declined.

I don't think the women's team would prevent ECAC from asking them again, but it might once again be the reason HC declines.

Quinnipiac is a much better fit for Hockey East than Holy Cross, I think the question is who ends up in the ECAC.

Help me understand - I've always been incredibly confused about athletic scholarships and who's allowed to give them out/who's not. Would a move by RIT to ECAC change any of that for them?

It would not, as the scholarships are an NCAA rule. According to Prop 65.1, you are allowed to give scholarships if you are of the division sponsoring the sport (in hockey's case, D-I, or D-II because NCAA does not sponsor hockey specifically for D-II), or if you gave scholarships in the sport at the time of the original play-up waiver in 1982-83 (RPI/CCT/SLU/CC apply for hockey, Johns Hopkins applies for Lacrosse, and there is another case but I can't remember what specifically). Since you were not offering scholarships at that time, you are not able to offer them unless you move your entire athletic department to the D-II level.

RPI is a special case in their women's program being able to offer scholarships despite moving to D-I in 2005-06, because of Title IX regulations.

Dan Rubin; said:
Rochester Institute of Technology’s Jordan Ruby may have a 2.29 GAA on the whole season, but he’s been lights out in conference play. The senior has a 2.04 GAA and a .925 save percentage in Atlantic Hockey games and is a big reason why RIT is in fifth place with the inside track to a second-round home series.

It's such low level analysis. How can a guy with more losses than wins be a "big reason" why we're in fifth place?

Let's look at wins in conference play...also known as how you end up in 5th place:

Ruby: 4
Rotolo: 6

So far Rotolo has the edge in points earned 12-8. But wait! In fairness, we have to look at ties as well. Don't worry my children, I've got you covered:

Ruby: 4
Rotolo: 1

Ruby clearly carries the day in the "at least we got something" category.

However tallying the points we still see that Rotolo has earned more points (13) in conference play than Ruby (12). I'm sure Dan is a good guy and I'm sure he had to figure out a way to try and get RIT into the article somehow, but the depth of the analysis is....lacking.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

The real reason RIT is in the hunt is the MGM line. The AHA POTY is going to come down to Garbowsky and Wydo of Romo.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

In conference play Rotolo's has .899% and 2.48 GAA but yes has more wins. Guess RIT just scores more goals in games with Rotolo in net.

RIT had a total of 67 goals in conference games last year. Already ahead of that with 70, must be Rotolo games... :)

Shooting % last year was 7.3 while this year is 8.8. Final four year it was 11%

Goal tending is decent, not Maldalora/DeMike levels, but the offense might be the bigger problem

I agree. It's hard to imagine where this season would be without Garbowsky and Mitchell. It seemed like they were the only line to score from October to December, and even know that our depth scoring has improved, we still seem to be calling on MGM for 1-2 a game.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Now that I have stirred the pot I have to say that Garbowsky is the biggest reason this team is sitting in the last first round bye slot. The second biggest reason is a tie between the remanding members of the "MGM line", Ruby and Rotolo.

Probably sound like a broken record, but Rotolo was not on his game to start the season and of course had to deal with an injury. Ruby has played very well and Mike has come on strong in the second half. Honorable mention to the defensemen. This is much better all around defense core than what the Tigers have had the last two years. And while a few time I think they give a little too much space in their own zone, they have played solid. I really think horrible defensive play in front of Ruby really helped snow ball some of his troubles, not that he had not contributed to some himself. This is what gives me the most optimism that this program is just starting to peak again...

Next week end may determine the outcome. Mom has101 pts to wjl 99
romo top line is much better at +\- but that may be because romo is better balanced . Rooms line must share ice time with 3 other productive line s
Cutting down their time. can't say about Rit top line but I imagine the coach
depends on them more ,therefore more ice time.
Defence and goalie strengths also in the mix of plus/minus.
So it might just come down to head to head.next week end.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I don't want to be melodramatic about this weekend series at Holy Cross but if we do not perform well this weekend meaning 3 points at minimum, I think we can kiss our bye good bye... Here's to our boys kicking *** this weekend!

It would be nice to play .500 over the last 6 games considering the opponents. I hope that would secure a first round bye. If we do better maybe we could sneak into one of the top three spots. Looking at the remaining games and who might have an easier go of it, I'm leery of AF putting together a win streak over the last six games, so regardless, we need to take care of business.

Army, Sacred Heart, and Niagara are the rooting interests this weekend.

Note - an RIT win or Army loss will clinch at least first round home games.
