Jordan Ruby has signed with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. He's been bouncing back and forth between the ECHL and the SPHL since he left RIT, but it's good to see him get another contract.

I wonder if compensation is better in the Euro Leagues. I don’t have a large sampling but I once was speaking with a parent whose kid was playing in the echl and was hoping that his son would eventually sign on with a European team to make a little money and see the world before giving up playing professionally. I think I would hope the same if I was fortunate enough to have a son scratching out a career playing professional hockey after college. Anybody have any insight? If the NHL is probably not in the future do you head to Europe. We’ve seen a bunch of RIT players make a name for themselves overseas and hopefully have a good time doing it.

Believe it or not, I was thinking along those lines after listening to Ed and Jim on the podcast.

Of course, the problem still persists that RIT won't be able to offer scholarships...

Think how awesome a logo could be for the Great Lakes Conference, hockey stick wrapped around the lakes...

I will just say I've sounded off more often on not on the scholarships being an issue that the RIT administration can fix...

Great Podcast, if anyone doesn't listen to Ed and Jim's podcast they are missing great info.

My all time favorite podcast was last year when Jim suddenly went off on a rant about Minnesota fans constantly whining about the B1G. And after he was done, Ed quietly ... and quickly ... signs off.

I almost crashed my car I was laughing so hard.

Don't want to speak for him, but believe he meant the NCHC.
Of course that brings up the issue of who exactly "puts" those teams into that conference. There are reasons why Bemidji and Mankato were not involved with the NCHC to begin with.

All potential upgrades of RIT's conference affiliation makes this persistent problem bigger and bigger. That specific proposal wouldn't create a conference with too much higher caliber than the AHA, but high enough considering RIT would be the only scholarship-free member.

I'm not really agreeing with that. While there is some merit to what you say giving the growth of the AHA, the teams I am talking about all have long standing traditions, teams that won national champion (even it it has been awhile), and the same if not better following than RIT. That is still the one thing the AHA really struggles with is putting butts in seats and fans who actually follow the team.

It's only because I value the same principles that Division III espouses. I think the higher divisions, especially Division I, place too much emphasis on recruiting potential professional athletes rather than student-athletes who are in college to get an education. I think an institution can bear one sport at that level without corrupting its values, but moving the entire athletic department to D-I would be a major philosophical and financial change for my alma mater.

However, I do have to admit I have no idea what you're talking about regarding RIT already being "a D-III member of" the Patriot League. Are you perhaps conflating it with the Liberty League?

Anyway, moving to D-I would be an even lengthier and more expensive process than moving to D-II, and would still require us to find a suitable D-II landing spot in the interim.

Yes complete brain fart, thanks for correcting, too much going on for me these days.... Liberty and Patriot, they all patriotic anyways...

What I meant to say is there would be some options in the Liberty League and I've always thought the Patriot league would be a good fit for RIT's other athletic programs.

Somehow I merged the two in my head, must have been that 90MPH Fast ball I took in the head the other night in Geneva, maybe I've lost some brain cells. Enjoy that comment boys...

Scholarships or no, I see very little positive argument for joining a new conference. Those teams in the conference aren't going to move the needle for getting more fans to the games. I don't know if that league would help in terms of travel costs since it does lose Air Force.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

If Division I doesn't place a greater emphasis on athletics than Division III, why do we even have different divisions?

Also, I'm not sure what the presence of players on an All-Academic squad has to do with my point. "Some hockey players get good grades" is not a statement in dispute.

I don't see why you'd say that, considering the vast majority of RIT's sports are, in fact, played at the Division III level. With much success, national championship droughts aside.

I've always thought the Patriot league would be a good fit for RIT's other athletic programs.

Alexander Kuqali has re-signed with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL for the 19-20 season. He has played in 197 games in the ECHL in the past 4 seasons.

I have no problem with 3x3 (for regular season only). But I do have a problem with loser points. A win is a win. A loss is a loss. And leave it at that. (If you absolutely must differentiate, then go with a three-point system.)
