>> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

Re: >> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

Pres. Destler just sent a letter to alumni and campus that showed a "rendering" of the arena in U lot. Far less impressive (and detailed to be fair) than the original concepts.

Let's hope it was just a quick and dirty one to show the location.

It looks a lot like the field house...maybe that is their intention?

If so, I think they have dumb intentions.

The actual design looks very similar, just presented in a much less fancy/impressive way.

Umm ... no. It is very different, starting with the roof. A previously very unique design is now run of the mill. And the interior cannot be similar with the exterior being so different. Still hoping the new one is a quick and dirty location rendering, but I doubt it. If it was that, they could have just placed the old design in the new spot. I'm disappointed ... hope it's not justified.

Ugh. The first rendering by Global Village was amazing. This new design leaves a lot to be desired. I'm with you RITProf; I hope they come up with something more interesting. The current rendering is boring and not worth the $30-35 million. RIT is all about "innovation and creativity" and the new rendering is neither.

Exactly how I feel. This just looks like a bland re-hash of the rest of the campus. The original rendering mixed well with the campus while also looking like an amazing building and attraction.

Looks like the designer forgot how to draw a curve.

How can you go from what looked like a really well designed exterior with nice lines and curves

to a square box?

Maybe if they put the blue car back in front! :D

You change designers and give them an actual budget for the building (not just for conceptual drawings for "bait and switch" fundraising).

Yes, that last part might be a little harsh but we'll see.

Re: >> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

My guess is the change in concept has to do with the actual amount of money that is going to be spent. My guess is that RIT aimed big (which is smart) and the money isn't there so it's getting scaled back.

Re: >> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

Sometimes what's inside the building is more important. I'm sure the outside will be tweaked once the final drawing is complete. I would say the Ritter isn't anything special from the outside, and this new building will certainly be an upgrade outside and inside.

It must be the off-season...
Soooo much angst over a couple of conceptual drawings. If this second one were published during the season, I wonder if any of us would have said much of anything about it.
:)

The new drawing is not labelled as "conceptual", but rather as the new GP Center that will begin construction in the fall. I think the angst is that it is off season and that the groundbreaking might be for an arena less nice than what many were expecting (and perhaps donated money toward). I do agree that the original concept drawings were probably outside the real budget. I completely disagree that the outside doesn't matter though ... many more people will see the outside of the arena than the inside.

However looking from the loop road south of U lot as I drove by this AM, I noticed you can see the field house roof more clearly than I thought and some symmetry between the two could work out nicely.

Probably the same group of people who called for Madolora to never start another game after he started his first one against Lowell. The real cream of the RIT USCHO crop, if you will.

I am pretty sure I was one of the people who had some negative comments for Madolora after that game but I'm not flipping out over a sketch :)

So is anyone else a bit nervous about our October schedule? I have a feeling, with us still finding a starting goalie and losing a few key players, that we could easily find ourselves 1-4.

Par for the course. RIT should lose both to Michigan, beat PSU, and split with RMU/Colgate. The last two could easily be losses and there's your 1-4. Wouldn't surprise me a bit ... nor would winning the AHA regular season.

We haven't been strong out of the gate the last 3 years, hasn't seemed to effect us too much.

Here's how it will play out.

Slow start to begin the season, que the comments on how Mad's is missed and the entire team should be reshuffled, shipped off to Canada, etc...

Team rides Watson to the AHA finals

The curves and blue car are put back into the budget for the new arena (Conceptual drawings reputation redeemed, angst relieved)

And finally, we beat AFA for the league championship!

2 months, x number of days until it begins all over again!:)
