How many key players sat last nights game?

3 normal starting D-men were out. As much as our defense was inconsistent, you can't play like that.

For the power play, the Tigers #1 unit went 4 forwards. I don't know how often they practiced that unit.

Dismal is right....but you're right blaze...how 'bout the RIT women's hockey team, congratulations on a great year!

I woke up this morning with the chance that all three of my teams could advance, going to bed tonight with all three finished for the season. While Army was not unexpected, both RIT and RPI losing (3rd period collapse to Dartmouth) was particularly painful in my house....

Oh well...

It will be curious to see what the attendance will eventually be like at the BCA.

Who does everybody have a rooting interest in of the remaining AHA teams? I always thought the Bentley fans have always tried to emulate the RIT program in a number of ways, so I think I am going to pull for them. Plus Chris and Dan seemed to work together this year in writing the AHA column.

Of the remaining teams, I suppose Bentley would be my pick as well. I wouldn't mind Mercyhurst winning out, either. They have been the best team all year and have certainly earned the right to represent our league, and I think they would have a better chance against a ranked opponent than Bentley.

Sucks that RIT's season might have been lost due to a stomach flu, but at the end of the day we had plenty of chances tonight and didn't finish. Time to start looking forward to next season which will, hopefully, be much better.

I just want to say, Holy Cross is lucky RIT was puking and peeing out of there butts over the weekend.


But! Props to RIT for putting a great run together at the end of the season. I cannot be an angry fan given the circumstances. The stomach bug takes everything out of you and it takes 3-4 days to fully recover from it. The best part about this past month was that RIT closed the RITTER with a bang! Our boys did a great job with what they had in the end.

Congrats to the woman for their championship win against a very good Mercyhurst side!

Most likely around 1,000, depending on who makes it through next weekend. Digging through last year's box scores, attendance for the two semifinals (Mercyhurst-UConn and Canisius-Niagara) were each 1,095, with the Canisius-Mercyhurst final bringing in a whopping 887 fans. As I personally think it's unlikely that either Niagara or Canisius will be getting a trip to Blue Cross this year, I'd imagine the figures will actually be a few shades under what they were last year, with Mercyhurst likely being the only team within reasonable travel distance advancing to the semis.

As for who we're rooting for...I don't particularly have a reason to follow anyone, as long as Holy Cross gets blown out in Erie. I wouldn't mind seeing Bentley win too, but I can't bring myself to root for Niagara (even against AF) or Canisius, or (as a raised-on-Pitt-hoops kind of guy) UConn, for that matter.

This team had it's issues and one of them was just plain horrible luck. In the end they played hard and really all you can ask. I am just going on record of saying if RIT has a chance ever to get out of the AHA I am in favor of it. I think the problem goes well beyond the officiating on the ice, in fact I believe it goes all the way to the top. At this point I't take a conference of the western pod with new leadership, only issue would be an auto bid. So here a healthy wish for the Ivy league teams to split away from the ECAC so RIT can join the ECAC.

Tom, I am glad you brought it up. Wth the building of the new rink, it almost seems natural that RIT should look to move out of the AHA and into a better league, preferably the ECAC. As much as my fellow RPI fans in Troy rant about ECAC officiating (and Union) over on their thread, I would rather have RIT take their lumps as a new team in the ECAC then continue in Atlantic Hockey. It may be a few seasons away but it should be the goal of the administration to get RIT into a better league where the Polliseni will be hosting better teams with bigger fans bases. Like it or not how great was it to have Clarkson come into the Ritter with their band two years ago? Imagine that, a visiting team with a strong fan base. I'm all for a move and I'm sure many other RIT fans are too. Enough already with the Eastern Pod - Western Pod scheme.

As to the team, a positive that could be taken out of this is a promising freshman class that has a bitter taste of defeat in it's head. I don't think their is a single quitter in that freshman class and I look for them to bring a renewed sense of urgency and leadership into next years team. It's not hard to miss that many of this years freshman class were among the leaders of this team in many categories, lets hope they can build on that. Lots to talk about in the off-season.

As a disgruntled fan I am happy the season is over. As a fan in general I am sorry that the team is done already but nobody can be surprised. This team was plain old not good. It had lots of problems that hopefully can be addressed in part by the incoming freshman and the development of the remaining players. The rest is up to Wilson and co. to figure out what when wrong (beside players being hurt) and how to fix it.

I think the the goaltender situation is acceptable. Nobody at this time is going to steal any games but given an adequate defense they shouldn't lose any games either. As I have written many times I like Rotolo and think the job should he his to lose. Ruby is what he is. He had the job given to him several times and couldn't keep it. Rotolo hasn't been stellar but better than Ruby. The defense is bad and the offense is worse. Hopefully a healthy team and some of the incoming players can help stabilize both.

The program is at somewhat of a crossroads for next season. Another season like either of the last two and RIT will become know as a "bad" program record-wise and that will take a lot of work to overcome. If next season is better (improvement), then these past two seasons can be seen as a hiccup and RIT can be seen as starting to return to its winning ways. Otherwise........

I really hope the new arena helps recruiting like some here think it will. I think it will help but not as much as some do. I really, really, hope I am wrong and the new arena is a recruiting magnet!

Well the pod scheme is done next year. Other than that, I think we're better off trying to improve the AHA than hoping a slot opens up in the ECAC. Because that's so unlikely that there doesn't seem to be any point in planning for it. Far better for AHA schools to demonstrate a commitment to improvement -- as most of them have -- and work to find better officials, better non-conference opponents, and better recruits.

Absent some sort of playoff spot guarantee for a division winner (which is moot in a league where everyone gets a playoff birth), what's the difference between "pods" and every other conference alignment, other than the name?

The 2013-14 RIT Men's Hockey season was the perfect storm of injuries and bad luck that continually hurt a team that was weaker than we had several years ago. I don't mean that the team was necessarily weak due to lack of skill or determination. It was weak because it's skill and chemistry couldn't be developed with any consistency throughout the season. And the more you lose, the higher the probability is that you'll lose determination. It happens sometimes... just when you think you've got something going you run into a hot goalie, bad officiating (far too often!), your goalie/defense/offense lacks confidence or chemistry, or just plain bad luck. It just beats you down. Fortunately we could all feel somewhat better toward the end of the season with our short winning streak... and, of course, our last win at the Ritter. Glad to put this season behind us. Am I optimistic about next season? Yes... but cautiously.

Well eastern teams that are good will accumulate points more easily than western teams of the same quality since their schedule is easier. Hence a good eastern team would most likely be seeded higher going into a tournament over a western team who is equally as good, if not better.
