Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

The team that showed up and dominated last night was not the same team that has been at Ritter all season. I don't know if it was the emotion of the night, or having Garbowsky back, or some combination of both...but the way we played last night makes me think we can definitely make some noise here in the playoffs. With a their captain back and a windstreak in hand, I think they finally believe in themselves.
I couldn't agree more. The atmosphere in the Ritter last night was electric. It was loud... the band seemed louder, the corner crew and fans seemed louder and it was difficult to walk around with a sell-out crowd with wall-to-wall people. And, best of all, the team played with enthusiasm and confidence. You felt like there was no way we were going to lose that game last night! Rocky had some great comments at the end of the game. A memorable experience for our last game at the Ritter.

From what I could tell they played their skaters but did put in the back up goalie.

He's not really the backup goalie. They've split time this season.

Congrats RIT fans on winning the final game at Ritter Arena.

I don't disagree, but the team had been building to this; they won the previous two games without that Ritter atmosphere, and won the Air Force game without Garbowsky.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Having Garbowsky makes this team much better. It lengthens the scoring lineup, making the Tigers harder to defend. The defense for the most part played well all game. I don't think Rotolo had to make any incredible saves all weekend.

Hope they can keep that up against Holy Cross.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Watch out Holy Cross. It's unfortunate they have to play the ferocious tigers at this time. With the Tigers being healthy again...

Here's to the RIT TIGERS blowing out Holy Cross!!!!

How did Garbowsky play last night?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

How did Garbowsky play last night?

He had what appeared to be a TON of ice time, seemed like he was out for every other faceoff. I definitely noticed him out there, and he had one or two individual opportunities to make something happen.

Beyond just his play, I think he does a lot for the mental health of this team. I noticed him doing a lot of talking to his teammates around him and Rotolo.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Congrats to both men and woman for ending on a winning streak. There was no better way to close out the RITTER than with winning streaks.
Did the Canisius rest their players or did they come at us hard?
The Men's team is only on a 1 game winning streak at Ritter (3 game streak overall).

The game was quite intense and got chippy a number of times. Lots of words and pushing/shoving matches exchanged (not like 2008, but still...). I don't think Canisius has ever "rested" when playing RIT, or ever will.

Maybe so, but what I want to know is where last night's intensity and sense of urgency (to WIN!) has been all season prior to the Saturday AFA game?
It's obvious that having Garbowski, Colavecchia, and Mitchell in the lineup increases the talent level and changes the game completely for RIT. However, even in their injury depleted state of the last couple months if they had played with the same kind of moxie they did last night for 60 minutes a game and two games per week they'd be in a much better position. Let's just hope they learned something from the last three games and the shut-down team defense (not to mention the stellar play of Rotolo) keeps up into the playoffs. If it does, they have a chance. At this point in a hugely disappointing season (to date), that's about all we can ask for.

All I can say about last night is that despite the rest of this season, last night was what we all remember as RIT HOCKEY! From the energy in the stands, to the intensity on the ice, to the SRO being three and four people deep, to the WIN, it had it all like many of the games used to from 2007 through 2011.

Farewell to the Frank Ritter Memorial Arena. 46 seasons (28 for me) of memories, mostly great. While nice shiny new arenas offer a number of advantages for fans over barns like Ritter, they'll never be able to recreate the experiences we all had here. I look forward to the future, but am still saddened by the change. I just wish I had the chance to see the Tigers get another National Championship while there... if I was just two years older :(

Speaking of the new arena...
Has anyone discussed where we might be parking next season? Seems like it's either S lot or D lot. Neither of those options are particularly appealing, are they?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

I am jumping the gun here, but I think RIT right now can take Mercyhurst in Erie. Let's stay healthy and keep improving! RIT fans just need to make the trip and make their barn RIT's!

No. And D-Lot doesn't count because 75% of the time it's blocked off for an event at the Field House. If Destler & Co expect off-campus fans (you know, the ones who are going to fill a 4000-seat barn) to hoof it all the way from S-Lot in the middle of winter, they're nuts.

The turf field is coming up on the time it'll need replacing, one has to assume there's been conversations about turning it into a parking lot and putting the new turf in somewhere else on campus.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Perhaps it took playing a hated rival to get RIT back into the right mindset. If you look back through the last couple of pages of forum posts you'll see plenty of people commenting on how RIT had the effort and energy and seemed to be doing well, but couldn't get the job done. Perhaps that last bit of pride on the line, or showmanship, or whatever you want to call it that sparked between AFA and RIT is what we needed.

Never really thought about it this way. However, there is a lot of space that can be leveled for a turf field right next to the soccer field/running track.

The turf field is coming up on the time it'll need replacing, one has to assume there's been conversations about turning it into a parking lot and putting the new turf in somewhere else on campus.

I was once told that the backside of the Polisseni suites with windows were purposely set up to overlook the turf field so that people could watch lacrosse games with some amenities. If that's the case, then turning the turf field into parking wouldn't make sense. It seems there is some space to expand what remains of U lot toward the tennis courts or to the SE on the other side of the retaining pond.

I have no idea what the administration is expecting as far as directing guests to get there. Probably D and U.

Mercy vs RIT
Bentley vs Can
AF vs Niag
UCON vs RMU

RIT and SH Win, Army AIC lose
Mercy vs SH
Bentley vs RIT
AF vs Niag
UCON vs RMU

RIT SH and AIC Win, Army loses

AF vs RIT
UCON vs RMU

RIT SH AIC and Army win
Mercy vs Army
Bentley vs AIC
AF vs SH
UCON vs RIT

RIT , Army, AIC Win - SH loses
Mercy vs Army
Bentley vs AIC

Working and doing this so I might be off on one or two.

I think parking is going to be a mess, at least for the first year. This is going to be especially tricky on Friday evening games when there are classes getting out and the parking lots are seeing more traffic than they do on Saturday games. There simply isn't parking close to the new arena now. So you won't have to show up 2 hours before the game to get the seat you want, but you will have to show up 2 hours early if you want a decent parking spot other wise I guess you'll be way out in the front of the school somewhere near the CIMs building ;)

If RIT wins I really can't see any other scenario other than this one, but I guess anything can happen. The good news is RIT does well, historically in Erie, and either AFA or Niagara will get knocked out before BCA, preferably AFA ;)
